Introduction:

Hi There! I hope you’re doing well today, today I will be suggesting or talking about the Russian Pantsir S1 8x8 Air Defense Missile System or SPAAG. So the Pantsir S1 gun system’s name is called the SA-22 Greyhound which is NATO’s code name for this tank. So this tank is used to destroy enemy air targets such as helicopters, jet and it can also destroy or engage light armored vehicles too.  Also, this tank’s design looks like the German FlaRakRad but a different design that the armament is different and different parts of the tank. But both of them are 8x8 wheeled vehicles. So I will be talking about more things below, I hope you enjoy my suggestion!

 History:

So the History of this tank is, this tank was designed by the KBP Instrument Design Bureau of Tula, Russia, and this tank was manufactured by the Ulyanovsk Mechanical Plant, Ulyanovsk Russia. So this tank was built because the Russian Army wanted to build a new prototype which means that this tank was like a further development or the successor of the 2S6 Tunguska or the ZPRK 2S6. So the development started in the year 1989. Then when the collapse of the Soviet Union in the year 1991 the Russian Army has decided to change some of the system’s requirements that they wanted to change some things for the Pantsir S1. Instead of when the Russian Army has decided that they wanted to design as an Airfield defense, missile silos, command centers, and communication arrays, they have decided that they should build the Panysir S1 as a Short Range Defense tank for the Russian Ground forces to use. Also, they have decided that they should not just only build a Short Range Defense Tank, they also wanted to build a Long Range Defense Tank too. Then 6 years later after their first development, the Pantsir S1 was first unveiled to the Public in a MAKS Air Show in Zhukosvsky near Moscow, the capital of Russia in the yea 1995, but it did not enter service in the year 1995 though. According to the Missile Threat Website, it says “This tank was entered service in the year 2003” so 8 years later. But I am not sure if I am right but I think that this tank entered service in the year 2003 - Until Present Day. But when I searched it up on Google, it says that “The Pantsir S1 entered service in the year 2012” and it was from Wikipedia, but since Wikipedia is not a reliable source, I don’t trust that website a lot so I don’t think that it’s true. Also not just only the Russian Army uses this Tank, other countries use this Tank because this tank was one of the most popular Short Range Missile Defense Systems. So other countries besides Russia operate this tank, so countries are Algeria, Brazil, Jordan, Syria, and the United Arab Emirates operate this tank. So the Russian Army delivers the amount of Pantsir S1 and delivers it to these 5 countries that operate it and Russia makes money from delivering.

Design:

Design and Protection:

So the Design and the Protection of this tank is, this tank is the chassis of the 10t Ural-5323 truck chassis. So this tank is an 8x8 wheeled Tank. So this tank is armed with 12 57E6 Surface to Air Missiles, 2A38M 30mm cannons, and this tank has a radar that is mounted on the top of the turret.  So there are 6 missiles on each side or the left and the right side. But there is 4 column in a row that every column has 3 missiles and that will add up to 12 missiles in total. But the missiles are put or placed inside a tube, just like the Tunguska. Then the cannons of the tank are placed or mounted on top of the missiles. Last, there is one Radar that is placed on the turret that can spin 360 degrees and the name of the radar is called the 1PC1-1E Radar. So this tank has a crew of three which is the Driver, Commander, and Operator, but I am not sure that where do these three men sit because, on the articles that I have found on my sources, it doesn’t say where do they sit. But since I have found some interior images on google, this is my guess but I am not sure if I am correct, but the driver sits in the front of the tank, the Commander sits behind the driver where does the Commander does like the radio and tracks the enemy target, and last the Gunner or maybe the Operator sits in the turret to fire the missiles and cannons. But this is my guess and I am not sure if it’s true. So the crew members are placed just like the German FlaRakRad. So the Armor of this tank has light armor, which means that the armor of the tank isn’t that great, also I am not sure if this is true but I think this tank has no Armor Protection at all which is not good at all.

Armament:

      2A38M 30mm AutoCannons:

So the 2A38 30mm AutoCannons was developed in the year 1970 but it was designed by the Soviet Union - KBP Instrument Design Bureau. Also, the cannons were manufactured by the Tulamashzavod Joint Stock Company.  But I am not entirely sure what was the history of the cannons because, in the articles, it didn’t say what was the history of it so I apologize about that. So the AutoCannons of this tank took like 12 years to develop that in the year 1982, the cannons finally entered service until the present day. So the AutoCannons are used for the 2S6 Tunguska and the Pantsir S1. So the 2A38 30mm AutoCannons can fire HE-T, HE-I, and Armor Piercing Tracer Rounds with a muzzle velocity of 960 - 980m/s, But this tank can carry around 1400 rounds, and 700 rounds are ready to fire per gun. So if you would divide 1400 by 2, it will give you 700, so it means that 700 rounds will be fired per gun. So it means that it has fewer AutoCannon Rounds than the Tunguska. So the cannons are capable or can go against light armored vehicles or targets such as IFVs, APCs, and maybe light tanks in the game, low flying air targets, a wide range of ground targets, and a wide range of targets when there in urban warfare.  The cannons can go up to 4km which is good to engage air targets and the fire rate of this tank is around 2500 rounds per minute which means that it has a really fast fire rate.

57E6 Surface to Air Missile:

So the Pantsir S1 can carry 12 57E6 Surface to Air Missile to engage enemy air targets that are pretty. So this tank can carry more missiles than the Tunguska since it can only carry 8 missiles. far away. But the missile is a Medium Range Surface to Air Missile whose minimum range of the missile is 1km and the maximum range is 20km which is pretty good. But the Minimum Altitude and the Maximum Altitude for the missile are around 1 to 8 meters, So that missile is pretty effective for a short-range missile defense system weapon. So the maximum speed of the missile is around 1,000 m/s so that is fast that it can reach the jet’s top speed and the weight of the missile is around 74kg. Also the fragmentation rod of the missile weights like 20kg.

   Specifications:

 Performance:

  • Max Range: 20,000 meters

  • Min Range: 1,000 meters

  • Target’s Max Altitude: 8,000 meters

1PC1-1E Radar:

So the Pantsir S1 is also equipped with an a Radar and the name of the radar is called the 1PC1-1E Radar. So again the radar can spin 360 degrees, just like the other modern SPAAG in the game and in real life. So the radar can detected enemy’s air target up to 32-36km which is really good because they can know that when enemy’s air targets are passing through an a restricted area etc. But the radar can track the enemy’s aircraft range like around 24-28km.Also this tank has a fire control system called the 1RS2 Fire Control System and it has a electro optic that has thermal sights or thermal imaging and it has a infrared direction finder too that it can track 2 targets at the same time that it could probably destroy 12 targets in one minute. So this is why this tank is really effective.

Mobility:

So the Mobility of this tank are, this tank has a Air cooled Diesel Ural-745.10 engine that can provide 290hp. So it means that this tank is probably slower than the German FlaRakRad. So since this tank is a wheeled vehicle, it means that this tank is probably fast. So the max speed of this tank is 90 km/h. But I am not sure that how much forwards gears and reverse hears does this tank even has. So the range of this tank is like around 800 km/h which is pretty far.

Pantsir S1’s on a Tunguska Variant:

  • There is another variant of the Pantsir S1, but I am not sure what is the name of it. So another variant of  the Pantsir S1 is the chassis of the Tunguska or the GM-352. So basically it means that the Pantsir S1’s Turret is placed on the Tunguska Hull or the Chassis. So it means that this variant is also another variant of the Regular Tunguska that is equipped with 12 Surface to Air Missiles, Two autocannons and mostly the same equipment as the Regular Tunguska. Like for example it has the same rounds that can fire, same chassis, probably the same fire rate, it has the same Tracking Radar Detector etc, it also has no smoke grenades too etc. Also there are some different things about this tank too. As I have already said earlier this tank is equipped with 12 Surface to Air Missiles instead of 8 Surface To Air Missiles and it has a different radar or an improved radar that can track even farther than the regular Tunguska  like around 24-28km. But I am not sure if it can detect enemy air targets from 32-36km since the wheeled Pantsir S1 has that feature. But since this tank is another Variant of the 2S6 Tunguska and the Pantsir S1 I believe that this tank also has 4 crew members which are the Driver, Gunner, Commander, and the Loader. Also I believe that they just sit the same area too. If you don’t know where the crew member sits, the driver sits inside the hull of the tank while the other three crew members sit inside the turret. So the Driver sits in the left side of the hull while the engine is to the drivers right, while the commander and the gunner sits besides each other that the commander sits in the right side of the turret while the gunner sits in the left side of the turret, and the loader of the crew sits behind the commander and the gunner while the ammo is placed on the back side of the turret. Also I am sure that it can carry the same amount of ammunition or rounds, also the range of the radar and the missile is an improved version that the features are probably as the same as the Wheeled Pantsir S1.

  In game:

If the Pantsir S1 gets added into the game, I think that it would be the best that this thing should be a Rank VII and a BR at a 11.0 because since if this tank gets added into the game it would be better that if this tank would be researched after the 2S6 Tunguska, since this tank was built after the Tunguska. So the RP should be 400,000 since other tanks at a 11.0 RP are getting 400,000 RP. The Price should be 1,030,000 Silver Lions and a crew train cost of 300,000 Silver Lions since the T72B3 is moving up to a 11.0 BR and their price costs that much. Also I think that this vehicle should have the ability to scout because since the German FlaRakRad has the ability to Scout, so why not give this vehicle the ability to Scout. But I would also say when this tank gets implemented into the game, I would also say it should be a 11.0 BR, the same RP, and the same costs for the Silver Lions since it is another variant of the Tunguska and the Pantsir S1. But the one thing I would change is the scouting because since in the game the regular tunguska does not have scouting, so why not adding the ability for the scouting for another variant of the Tunguska. You don’t have to do this but this is my advice when two tank gets added into the game.

Pros and Cons for the Wheeled Pantsir S1 and the Tunguska Variant:

  Pros:                                                   Cons:

  • It has Thermals                          It has really weak Armor

  • It has Night Vision                  It has no Armor Protection

  • It has 12 missiles                  It has no Smoke Grenades

  • It has 2 AutoCannons           It can easily get Hull Broken From a Heat Shell.

  • It has a radar                         It can easily get killed by Machine Guns.

  • This tank is pretty fast

  • It can detect enemy’s aircraft or air targets from 32-36km away

  • It can lock onto enemy’s aircraft or air targets from 24-28km away

  • It could probably scout, since this tank is a wheeled vehicle

  • It has good Gun elevation

  • The radar goes 360 degrees

  • It has a really good fire rate

  Conclusion:

Thank you to everyone who had read my suggestion wisely about the Pantsir S1 because I’d really appreciate it! I will be making more content in the future and I will see you soon! Also I would like to thank @MAKEthemSUPPER@live For mentioning this because I’d really appreciate it if the Tunguska variant of the Pantsir S1 should be added or not! If I never knew about this, I would never have written about it!  Thank you and have a wonderful day!

Why not just the tracked pantsir? Much better.

Well There is a Tracked Pantsir Variant, but I decided that I wanted to do the wheeled one instead, but you can write a suggestion about it!

The wheeled one offers nothing over the tracked variant over struggling to get up slught inclines from a full stop.

I will have to vote no unless a tracked variant is offered in the poll, since you decided to take the whole name for the suggestion.

I have only ever seen it called Pantsir S1. It is the same hull as the tunguska, GM-352.

@MAKEthemSUPPER@liveI have just wrote the variant about the Pantsir S1 Tracked version now. Is this good enough? Or would you like me to do some changes?

Since I have made some changes to the polls, my choices I have decided to choose is for Question 1 I would choose Yes, For the second question I would choose Yes too, For number three I would choose yes, and for the last question I would choose 11.0 BR.

@Miki_HoshiiWhen I went to the content that has all postponed vehicles and when I tried looking for the Pantsir S1, I don’t see it. So I was wondering that if you wrote it or not?  If you wrote it I was wondering that if you can tell me on what you wrote instead besides the Pantsir S1, please? Thanks!

  • CakeJuniorMan changed the title to Pantsir S1 8x8 Short Range Air Defense Missile System and SPAAG.

+1, very nice SAM vehicle, I'm impressed by the number of missiles!

@CakeJuniorMan The vehicle was listed as KAMAZ-6560 Pantsir-S1 as your suggestion does say "Pantsir S1 8x8" with 8x8 referring to the chassis. If someone wanted to make a suggestion on a GM-352 chassis they still can.

+1.

For balance reasons, I think the wheeled variant should be added. This way, top tier AAA would be weaker in armor, but stronger in capabilities. I'm basing this on the german FlakRakRad, as well as the ITO 90, that both have paper thin armor.

We also have to keep in mind the Pantsir has 12 missiles and not 8 like most SPAA. Which is another advantage.

Its missiles having a 20km range doesn't matter much however, as no planes currently can attack at 10km range anyway.

The pantsir wouldn't be game breaking either, however, NATO may need some longer range mavericks, or SEAD missiles, to face such opponent. Though I'm sure players will find workarounds, like, using ground forces in ground battles for once.

+1 for the Kamaz 6560 8x8, It would also be interesting to see interchangeable chassis's at some point.
