Hello!

 

I would love to see small improvements in vehicle presets, which should be very easy to implement for developers.

 

Problem:

The problem right now is, using 1920x1080 resolution (which is far most popular), you are limited to 13 visible presets. You can create more presets, but only first 13 will be visible, as shown on the screenshots:

To select presets 14+, you have to press Preset button, scroll down to the bottom, select specific preset, click Apply button. That's a lot of clicking which shouldn't be needed!

 

Part of the issue is, current minimum tile size of vehicle preset is set to 94 pixels, so even if you use short names (like I do), you can't benefit from having smaller tiles. Each tile has a lot of empty space on both sides of the text, and that's not needed at all!

 

Change 1:

My suggestion is to decrease minimum tile size on vehicle preset from current 94 px to about 60 px.

 

Change 2:

Add possiblity to show images (shown before the text) on tiles as an option.

 

This could be very simply implemented, eg. something like this (look at the left side of the Close button):

All images would be a grouped buttons, so selecting one image would automatically deselect all other images. In other words, only one image can be selected at the time. On screenshot example, currently selected image for preset #13 is a plane.
Another way to implement this feature would be to add a drop-down list, where the first option would be "no image" and then more options showing images. This way many more images than just 3 could be added.

With these changes, vehicle presets could look like this:

This way we could quicker notice which preset is from which game mode, because images are easier to figure out than text.

This would also decrease amount of informations needed on the tile, so make it smaller. More available space could be used to extend maximum number of available presets in the future (with proposed changes it could be extended to 20 all the time visible presets of minimum size!).

 

What if some players won't like these changes?

Minimum size of the tile could be a dynamic value. If someone have 13 or less presets, the current minimum value of 94 px could still be used. Same time, using images would be completely optional! So presets will look exactly like they look now, nothing will change! When the player create 14+ presets, minimum size of tiles would be calculated in a way to all the tiles fit whole available space of the presets bar (so basically minimum tile size will decrease with more presets you add above 13). This way of implementing proposed changes should satisfy everyone.

These suggestions would definitely be good additions, I would also suggest making the presets at the bottom something that can be scrolled left and right, with buttons perhaps.

I think the most important thing here is to tell the devs, there is a problem with current vehicle presets implementation (and it's a serious issue, if you use more than 13 presets with 1920x1080 resolution!). I have a feeling they all are playing with 4K resolution, so they don't know this issue even exists.

 

I'm pretty sure, once they touch this area, they will find some clever way to improve the situation and possibly even extend the number of available presets (right now maximum available presets for nation is 18).
