Looking for Squad - AB Contact list

6/2/15 EDIT:The new contact list has been implemented, and the old list has been discarded.

This Aviation AB contact list is for people on the forum to get in touch with others with the purpose of "squadding" up, regardless of if you are already in a squadron or not. To get on the list, simply fill out a quick survey which can be accessed here:

http://goo.gl/forms/uKdDRT9j5D

The most effective way to get value out of this contact list is to:
  • first identify who you think you would enjoy flying with;
  • either add them as a 'friend' in-game and message them there indicating how you found them, and/or
  • do #2 above, but via a forum PM.
Important note about Gaijin's change on (May 1st, 2015) to how the in-game Friends List works: http://forum.warthunder.com/index.php?/topic/236812-friends-list-update/
  • I have tested this -- you can unilaterally add a friend to your list, and even if you aren't in his/her friend list, you will still be able to send him/her a PM when they are online (although he/she will appear 'offline' to you).

3/7/14 EDIT: Images for forum signatures are HERE! Huge shout out to Carrier_ who contributed his creative talent, time, and most importantly put up with my at-times unreasonable demands, to put these together!

3/4/14 EDIT: Based on some suggestions we will also try to keep a WT in-game chat room open. I say "try" because the room stays open as long as at least 1 person is in it, but once everyone leaves it 'disappears' and has to be re-recreated. The hope is that this room will help to facilitate finding people from the contact list above to squad up with by basically being an alternative to manually adding everyone to your friends list.

To join the room, simply type the following line into any of your WT in-game chat text boxes, and hit 'Send' --

/join ABforumfolks Gaijin

Note: "ABforumfolks" is the channel name, and "Gaijin" (case-sensitive) is the channel password.
This will open up an additional tab titled "ABforumfolks" in your chat box. You should then be able to see others who are online and in the game, and simply ask if they would like to squad up, and at what tier, etc. Don't panic if you only see your name, that merely means one of two things, 1) the room was previously empty/non-existent and you just 'created' it, or 2) you may have had a typo in the channel name when you typed the 'join command', which resulted in you creating a totally different chat room. Do also note that if you don't exit the chat room before exiting the game, the next time you start up the game the chat room should automatically open up for you again as long as there are people in it at that very moment. A. Preferred tiers  = 6

B. Preferred playstyle = 6 followed by 2 and 1

C. Preferred Maps = 3

D. Preferred Comms = 1 (if the people I squad with use comms I will just fly support)

E. Experience = 4 (flying joystick in arcade so some games I look like 1     )

Don't judge me by my player card, this is my first flight sim and I only flew joystick from day one.  Add my kids who come first and my card is rubbish :Ps

A. Preferred tier/s = 2

B. Preferred playstyle = 2/3/5 or High-Altitude fighting in general

C. Preferred map type = 1

D. Comms = 3

E. Experience = 2 (though I'd rate my performance as above-average in my preferred tier and playstyles)

This is indeed a very good idea.

KingKalvin

A. Preferred Tiers 3/4

B. Preferred Playstyle 1

C.3

D.3

E. 1

For category "A", I assume you mean you prefer playing Tiers 3 + 4, rather than the category options #3 and #4? Let me know if you meant the latter and I'll update the list.

3) Tier 1 + 2
4) Tier 3 only

Since he was asking for it based on how long you've been around, I figured that would come close. Besides, if you drag me to Era 3+, it'll be quite fitting most likely.

And as an addendum: Thank you very much for taking the time to compile the list, OP. I might molest some of you guys tomorrow when I got the time to indulge myself in planes.

Edit: While we're at it: Why not create an in-game channel for people to meet up? I made some very good experiences with that on WoT where you can easily find people without having to add everyone to your friend list.

Exactly what my first reaction was when I saw his response for that category  :?s , but he's right, it was more of a time-oriented question. The intent is to give people a rough gauge about the player's skill level, but we all know that's not necessarily directly proportional to time spent on the game. Some people are quick studies, and others like me, can't easily be taught new tricks.

Time zone may be another important stat to add ?

USA Pacific Time

I did think about it but figured that it might not be very useful because not everyone plays WT during what some might consider, "typical hours". For instance, I'm in PST too and while I sometimes play at 10am or 8pm, I do often times also play between 1-3am. I thus decided to omit it for now as it might not offer as much value compared to the additional clutter the contact list would incur.

Well this works. Had a fun set of games with Jonotallica tonight, so thanks

Glad to hear! I added all you Tier 3 folks to my WT friends' list last night but didn't see anyone online. Maybe I'll have better luck later today.
