Arcade - Fighter Tutorial Videos

Before I begin, if you're a newcomer to the game then you should really start with some tutorials for beginner pilots. There's many available on youtube, and I've created my own as well which can be seen here. That should give you the grounding you need to understand the things I do in the videos listed below.

This thread started as a video on the G50, then progressed to a series on Arcade fighters that were neglected for some reason, then expanded to include fighters that were commonly misunderstood & not used to their strengths, and now is just a general fighter tutorial series.  EDIT: Now includes an Arcade fighter dogfight duel series called "Versus" as well.

Some of these videos will have music that's blocked in certain countries. If you're affected, try a workaround such as the ProxTube addon for Firefox. I'll try to avoid copyright issues in future vids.

You almost remind me of BohemianEagle (aka Jingles), anyways, keep up the great reviews/tips for the planes!

:good:

Do I? He has a crisp English accent, mine is heavily Australian - at least I thought it was :)

Reposting the G50 to here, as I'll make the first post more of a summary...

So ... uh ... any suggestions on what I should look at next?

Ki-61-Ia/Ib, He 112 V-5 (that's going to be painful), MiG-3 BK, 109 E-1, Wirraway :3

Haha ok, except I don't own a Wirraway :p

I've had people mention the A6M2-N and the He112 A-0 as well.  I've added a poll to get an idea of whether there's any particular plane people struggle with especially.   Btw I refuse to review the MC200, its FM is just so terrible (and unhistorical) that to review it would be an insult.

The Gladiator would probably be useful to the folks who most need insights, new players using Reserve aircraft. The He 112-V5 would be good, too, as it's never gotten any coverage that I know of. But, I chose the Gladiator because I really look forward to how you'll fly a biplane! lol

Ok with a grand total of 3 votes each, its a tie between the Bf109 E1 and the He112 A0. I'll go with the A0, mostly because I made a skin for it & secondly because its always annoyed me that I couldn't get that plane to perform as well as I'd expected it to.

Great videos there mate, keep up the good work! Enjoyed seeing you score kills in some of the planes I've had the most trouble flying, the guns are severely underpowered though the machines themselves do have some considerable technical advantages over their corresponding BR opposition.

The He-112 A-0 (and B-0 for that matter. although to a lesser degree) is an absolute beast at its tier. Don't be deceived by the apparently weak armament, that MG C/30L is the same cannon that was mounted on the Pz II light tank and flakvierling AAA trucks, so it shreds most planes it hits. Rate of fire is relatively slow, with a 280–450 rpm (I reckon its around 200 rpm maybe slightly below that for the in-game airplane model), with an absolutely astounding muzzle velocity of 900 m/s (2,953 ft/s), making it easy to score hits on enemies that are near the maximum effective range or travelling at high speeds.

The third and probably the best feature of the plane is also related to its armament and that is the HEI-T round, which uses a filling consisting of 2.4 g HE (RDX+wax) + 4.1 g incendiary (zinc), meaning any soft-skinned airplane that takes a direct hit on its wings, control surfaces or engine/fuel tank either gets torn to bits or set ablaze.

All in all, this is a great plane, having great maneuverability, making it a decent turnfighter at the right speeds, it does suffer from elevator lock-up so BnZ-ing can prove difficult and risky under certain circumstances.

Finally, one plane that I am particularly interested in as far as a possible guide might be concerned is the Bf-109 E-1, since it has a rather high BR and absolutely horrendous armament, no matter how you look at it. Looking forward to seeing more of these guides and good luck hunting!

Hi Daniel, thanks for your encouragement :)  I've almost finished the A0 vid - my problem wasn't the damage it causes (though hit registration can be a problem) but how to actually fly the plane effectively.  My typical experience was getting between 0 & 2 kills then dying quickly, which I really wanted to improve on.

The Bf109 E-1 with its 4 popguns will be next.  Can't say I'm looking forward to it ;)

The Gloster Gladiator is perhaps one of the most underrated era 1 planes out there. It has decent firepower, is easy to fly, and has short takeoff and landing runs. This last point makes it a great plane for domination maps. Just my two cents...

Americans mate, they think all foreign English accents sound the same...  :Os

I have a strong American-southern accent and when I'm on the phone internationally I get accused of being from Oz...go figure.

Ok, Bf109 E-1 is up. Please excuse my voice, got a nasty cold that I can't seem to shake...

Gladiator's next, once I've figured out how best to fly it.

Btw please feel free to suggest other planes if there's one you struggle with & its not on the poll.

Your videos are really good. They help me a lot.

I voted for the zero A6M2-N i think is a good plane, but seems to be a little slow and lose speed very rapidly after a little bit of dogfight once low and slow i´m  probably end up in a big ball of fire.

Another type of aircraft in which i´m find myself not exactly comfortable is on the Ki 45 series. (and other heavy fighters in general with the exception of the BF110) I always try to go for the bombers or BnZ but with not very good results.
