No doubt this will be added as a tier 4 now that we have the additions of the Nashorn and Dicker Max at tier 3. Now there is a question of what will fill that empty tier 5 slot..  :dntknw:

Was the G.W. E100 ever planned? I know that G.W Tiger with the 17 cm was in the final stages of being built, the main thing it was missing was the gun, but I don't know if the Germans ever seriously thought about a direct fire artillery version of the E100

From Wargaming's site: "Development of this heavy SPG on the E 100 chassis started at the end of 1943, but it was never completed. No prototypes were ever manufactured and the vehicle did not undergo any trials."

 

Although I wish it had, it looks like no.

That's what I thought, but the GW Tiger with that 17 cm that has more than 340 mm of penetration with it's AP round is more than sufficient for tier 5

So far, Gaijin has yet to announce any SPG from World of Tanks in this game so we'll have to wait and see.

Side note.. Wouldn't an open top German TD tree be advisable? As there are an abundance of low to high tier vehicles with this classification.

From what I remember the suggestion for the Geschutzwagen E 100 never left the drawing board, the Geschutzwagen Tiger should be more than enough for at least early tier 5 with the monster penetration of it's AP round

Considering we now have a... well we already had it but now we have a definitive open topped TD line for Germany, This and the 17.0cm gun carrier (dont remember the name) could be the tier V for that line :)

Seemingly, one of the main reasons why bigger guns were not used more in anti tank roles was the huge cloud of dust they kicked up with every shot. Dicker Max could not observe it's own AP shots for example, which is troublesome if you intend to shoot at tanks.

For tier iv there are several waffentrager open topped tank destroyers with long 88s that they could choose from.

Yea this is probably the next step after the Nashorn.

And stop talking about GW Tiger as SPG since it's a god damn arti. It's as tall as a Jagdtiger, has no armor, 0 depression and it's slow. You want that to play around in T5? You'd be dead 5 times before you get your gun to bare. Not to mention being spotted and raped by planes in every realistic battle even with strafe runs.

Hell you'd have better chance selling the Hummel as some kind of Nashorn's derp cousin.
