Tiger driver's vision port in detail

This Topic is back in Business.

Yes.

  • Too big viewport gap.
  • View port is not in closed position.
  • View port is missing the armored glass.

Only positive is that the extra 80mm armor around was modelled. But the view port should be closed and should not be empty.

i am glad that they are working on the finer details of some vehicles armor, but this sort of thing needs an option to move the armor plate. a few other vehicles would also benefit from such options

Fixed it for ya.

If Im not mistaken, these driver ports are on all Pz III, Pz II, Pz IV, TIger I, Stugs and so on.

i was thinking of a few spaa of various nations that have plates that players could raise for crew protection, if moving armor plates like that were possible, although they wouldnt do much except against light machineguns or perhaps distant arty fragments

did you make it a bug report?

at least for the missing armorglas!

I am sure the armor glass is technically modelled, but not visually. Cause y'know, development things, obscured by impenetrable shadow. :D

(Same thing with tank barrels, you can see the rifling a bit way down, but beyond that, bam, black shadow.)

but it would prevent your driver from being killed by an machinegun or like a 3,7 coaxial canon like the one on the m6a1

i could see it being effective against shrapnel and Mg rounds and At rifles but idk about proper cannons. they did add a armored screen for it after all

I did a well documented bug report 1-2 months ago for the Tiger H1 & E Driver Visor being twice as wide as it should.

Accepted OK but no result yet.

Ingame it seems that the whole armored frame and the moveable armor shield are a paper-thin weakspot, and imho that shouldn't be the case.

So either the armored frame and the moveable armor shield protecting the driver's vision port are modelled incorrectly ingame,

or the Tiger just  faces opponents which were build to defeat Tigers and should penetrate that area easily anyway...

However, in my opinion the armored frame + the moveable armor shield should make that area harder to penetrate than the surrounding flat armor,

since the  armored frame + the moveable armor shield are mounted on top of the hull armor, increasing the effective armor thickness in that area.

So in other words, that area shouldn't be a weakspot, it should be a "strongspot"... :P

Btw, Panzer III and IV should have these moveable external armor shields too! :P

The only way for me to penetrate a tiger 1 with IS-2 though veiw port is hitting the glass part dead center, something that is nearly impossible to do at most ranges. If my shell hits the armor blocks around the glass it will bounce 122mm shell. That is why I just aim dead center to avoid that. It's when I snap shot a Tiger and the shell hits those blocks that give me trouble.

so when the Driver's viewport is closed, how does he drive?

Does the Anime Girls und Panzer telling the truth (In order for the Driver to drive into the direction the commander points, the commander kicks the shoulder of the driver?)

I drove a M113 off and on while in the military. Driving hatch open, the commander used a stick to poke on our shoulders (left or right) to tell us where to turn, and to stop it was a whack on the helmet. When we buttoned down (hatch closed, the stop command became a kick on the back of your head.....
