misanthrope0 195 Report post Posted May 22, 2014 I remember in the limited amount of CBT I played you could research camo for your tank. That seems to be gone, is the no longer a camo mechanic in game or if there is how is it working?
Firaxin 3,181 Report post Posted May 22, 2014 Yeah, not sure why it was removed but all it did in CBT was unlock the tank's secondary skins (Winter paint scheme, for example). There was no mechanical bonus other than it being slightly harder to see your tank with the human eye against a matching background. For now, tank skins are only unlockable with gold eagles. Gaijin probably just wanted to suck some money out of the influx of thousands of unwitting newbs who don't know we'll probably eventually get back the ability to unlock them for free... Galgothica 4 Report post Posted May 22, 2014 I am on premium account so not sure if different for non-premium but some tanks do have camo skins and they have been free so far, but not all of them have camo skins. That being said here is what I know from dev logs. Everything is rendered in this game unlike WOT where if you have camo value you will not be rendered to a person whos particular view range level allows them to either see you thru line of sight or thru bushes. Which is more realistic naked eye sight should allow you to see something if it is there. So in AB and RB if you are line of sight even if it is KM away you will be shown on radar and red marker. In SB you will be rendered but they still have to see this is where tank camo patterns come in to play. If you either get the ones the game provides or create from using decal/icons a pattern that allows you to blend in you are camouflaged from player being able to distinguish you from terrain. Remember camo doesn't need to be browns/greens/greys/tans to blend in breaking up your shape makes direction difficult to discern your size at 1000M or if you are even a tank at 1500-2000M. But some people I see using neon colors and bright primary colors those don't work that makes you easier to target specially blue in this game pops out from long distance. JanW90Cz 23 Report post Posted May 22, 2014 The only problem is that choice is usually limited to gray and white for early german tanks. This could be historically accurate but we don't have historically accurate maps to hide there... how many battles were taken place in jungle between germany and ussr? Btw crews often painted their vehicles - added tree branches, leaves while in forest. I hope that it will be added.
Ifrandi 0 Report post Posted June 18, 2014 Hi, I am new to this game. Does this mean that in SB you won´t be shown on radar when in line of sight of a tank? If one enemy sees you, can they mark you somehow so that you are shown on radar? Thanks
ZedaEnnd 3,111 Report post Posted June 18, 2014 (edited) That is not what it means. It's just according to your eyes. If you can spot the tank, then their camo wasn't good enough to beat you. And the camouflages aren't only unlockable with eagles, you unlock them with effort. I think the reason they had the camouflage research option was to make the closed beta testing quicker and easier. And no, in simulator tanks cannot mark each other and red marks are based just on field of vision, I believe.. Krymsen 110 Report post Posted June 22, 2014 Gaijin have said that they're working on camo/concealment, and frankly I'm still bewildered that they released Ground Forces without it. Even in Arcade mode, being able to see through 2km of jungle is fucking ridiculous, let alone in RB. I tried Sim yesterday, you get red marks on the minimap if you're visible (through the trees too), but no targeting square.
