ammo selection

I've been playing since closed beta and I'm still lost on this topic. I usually select the ammo with the biggest penetration but if theres other types of ammo like heat or explosive ones I'm pretty sure they have they're uses. I just wonder if theres anyone kind enough to give me info or intel for the ammo, as to why I should use x ammo on y tank and such... why should I use heat, explosive, fragmentation ones and so on and to what tank I should apply them to. I looked and found 1 thread in here that talked about it but didn't have enough intel on it.

any help is appreciated

I always go for stealth if possible, I deal the most damage with it, Cannons and MG's.

Air Targets supposedly does more damage but I like the surprise effect stealth has.

Keep an eye out for Tracer belts on MG's with API-T, they set things on fire quite nicely.

Other than that generally AP/Ground Belt (obviously) if you're doing some Ground Attack.

As for Turrets I use Omni/APT.

Have a nice flight :salute:

Generally: APHE is the general ammo you should use. Decent penetration combined with beeing deadly after penetration.

APCR: Hightest penetration, less damage in the target then APHE (no explosion after impact, more or less damages only things in the direct flight path). Use it if you can't penetrate with APHE.

HEAT: Penetration not affected by distance, should be less influenced by slope (not sure if this is ingame currently)

HE/Frag: Generally against (very) light armoured targets, and fortifications and so on (currently not ingame)

Shrapnell can be used against lightly armoured targets for devastating effects upon penetration.

You could also look at " Tovarish Nope's guide to tank ammunition "^^ for more informations.

Weinn if your description is right I see a huge issue with the realism of this game.

For example if APCR was to penetrate a tank, unless it goes though both sides, it will instead ricochet around in the tank pretty much killing most of the crew, damaging equipment and possibly igniting ammo.   Basically you pen with APCR, the tank should be toast with pretty nasty internal damage and a lot of dead or wounded crew.

HE for example, depending on the size of the charge should cause internal spalling, basically again throwing shrapnel around in the tank and even if it doesn't spall, then you still have massive concussion doing nasty things to the crew.

Honestly HEAP and HEAT shouldn't be the only effective ammo types, with APCR only being a pin prick of damage.
