Fascinating WW2 Facts

as i said... IT WASNT DESIGNED as SMG... therefore it afaik isnt considered A TRUE SMG... what it was designed as also need to be considered in terms of classsification in some cases... otherwise the Panther would most likely be labeled a Heavy ingame because the soviets said "aha over 40 tons.. heavy"

The Villar Perosa was designed as light machine gun, ok. But in late 1917 she was reclassified as a trench weapon, modified for a mobile infantryman, with the weight between 6,000kg and 6,500kg. Bipod eliminated and slower(?) of rate of fire.

If you want a truly designed smg in the same years (in Italy) there was the OVP (a direct evolution of the Villar Perosa) with production beginning in early 1918 and the Beretta MAB 18 that, depending on the sources, entered in service a little before the MP18.

3. The Versailles treaty was so cruel and demanded so many tribute from Germany that millions perished by hunger. This treaty wasn't a real peace treay, only a provocation for another war.

French generals, ask the recover of all destructions made from the Kaiser army in France for the 4 years of WW1; The fact is, Versailles treaty was wrote by winners to give all debt to Germany who was "responsible" of the war, Germany was not present on the creation of this "Peace treaty". In order to do that, Clemenceau ask the recover of 90% of the war cost for the Entente, 3 French states (lost in 1870), economical restrictions and a full cancel of the German army.

It was also, a kind of revenge from the invasion of France, and the siege of Paris by Prussian (GER) under the reign of Napoleon 3rd in the 19th century.

All the basics where there to create an other conflict.

Not in the slightest way, wether was France give the guilt for the war nor were the reperations that high.

After the war of 1870/71 the reperation payment was in euro calculated 28.537.600.000 Euros after 1918 the payment was 700.000.000.000 Euros, to be payed in yearly rates of roughly 10.000.000.000 Euros plus 26% of Germanys exports had to be given to the allies. there is a little difference i would say.

There is a reason germanys economy broke totaly down in 1931, the from  the war devastated economy was just not able to shoulder that ammounts of dept and the world economy crisis at the end of the 20s gave it the rest.

iirc the econmoy was actually theoretically able th shoulder it... but much of the industry after the war was build on credits (and most of the people didnt really wanted ot pay for something they saw as unfair insults...)... "auf pump"... which had terrible effects when the american banks called back their short term loans...

well it is like what the Germans did to the French in 1871

Care to explain. Because despite the revanchism which lead to the treaty of versailles those two peace treatys actually are anything but compareable and so are their wars. For example the germans wanted 5 billion francs of reparations in 1871 (=1450 tons of 24k gold). The french demanded 256 Billion Goldmark (around 95.000 tons of 24k gold) in 1920, to be paid over 42 years plus an additional share of 12% of german exports.

The reparations of 1871 slowed down a bit the french economy while it gave a boost to the german. The reparations of 1920 basically ruined germany which was due to the long war already on the edge of starvation. Recession and staggering unemployment rates took their toll. The money on the other hand was mainly used to pay the US for their war supplies.

In 1871 the french lost a rather small part of territory that was captured and taken in a time from Louis XIV to Napoleon from Germany (or rather german states) and in which even in 1871 a majority still spoke german.

After 1918 the germans lost a huge part of their territory (not to say austria or hungaria) in an act to drastically weaken the country just as they had basically lost their army, fleet and airforce. If germany would have acted that way in 1871 it's unsure if WW1 could have broken out around 1914 and in the setting we know, if ever. Or if france might have seen another horrible fate. Yet this is of course only speculation since we lack absolute knowledge about "alternate history".
