cortez14 375 Report post Posted August 6, 2014 The first internet forum I ever posted on was that of a small community that I soon became very involved with. It was great, there were probably 50 or so consistent posters so I read and commented on pretty much every thread. Unfortunately for myself, that community and the attempts at reviving it have all effectively died, but I really enjoyed the experience so I sought out another internet forum. I didn't really feel like seeking out a new community so I came here. I had skimmed through news threads before but had never really delved into a specific section. When I did I was pleasantly surprise, there is a lot of good (and some bad) dialog that happens here and many quality posters but... I have found it hard to follow more than one forum, hence why almost all of my posts exist here, or rather in the Arcade subforum. Now, I'm sure that the people who browse websites like Reddit are probably laughing at me but, as you can probably tell from this thread's title, that is beside the point. Life, er, internet story aside, I want to ask you guys whether or not you feel this forum within a forum within yet another forum is really necessary. While organization is good, simplicity is better, in my opinion at least. Adding additional sections like this is detrimental to the flow of the forum, again in my opinion. Also, is it really necessary to have this level of organization right now? It seems like a good 95% of the threads posted here are about aircraft, and it's not like the tank threads get ignored. Finally, if we have subforums for each individual gamemode, what purpose does the original arcade subforum serve? What are your guys' thoughts on this matter?
monkeyboy21714 2,620 Report post Posted August 6, 2014 It is mostly because the arcade, rb and sim battles modes all differ from each other greatly and most people play one mode so having a sub forum for that mode makes more sense than it appears. If everyone posted about issues with one game type in one forum section it would be hard to establish what mode they are referring too. For people who play ab they use that sub forum same goes for rb players and sim players. People also only play one nation and if they were all put into one block that would cause anarchy within two days. The sub forums cater to everyone's needs and you should mostly use the part that relates to what you play in game. There is method to the madness tbh without this many sub forums it would be a complete mess. :salute:

Lance007 2,625 Report post Posted August 6, 2014 The amount of sub-forums and sub-sub-forums is kind of rediculous imo, and most of them are very close to ghost towns.
Courtney337 1,400 Report post Posted August 6, 2014 Jeez, I only noticed this thing like right now. Not like I seem to have missed anything, but dang. If they want to split the discussion in the Arcade forum into air battles, ground battles and so forth, I guess that could help, if they weren't just optional subforums cluttering up the page. Even then, the vast majority of posts and topics in the Arcade forum center around the air battles anyway. Much like tank battles in T4 and T5, everything but the air section would probably look like Tombstone at high noon.
i_ivanof 7,084 Report post Posted August 6, 2014 I've always criticized the ridiculous amount of practically unused sub-forums which only serve to lower forum activity here, i made a similar thread in the RB section, which used to be the most active section of the entire forums, now practically dead http://forum.warthunder.com/index.php?/topic/165727-splitting-this-forum-in-more-unseeded-sections-eh/
Avarik 6,779 Report post Posted August 6, 2014 Welcome to Sub Forum Thunder. I will be your guide throught the Sub-Forumception. Buckle up! /o/ Good to see I'm not the only one who thinks that. Would have been better to use tags and prefixes in dedicated sub forums for multiple discussions instead of having to browse sub forums all the time...and I do recall commenting about that when they asked for feedback on forum layouts.
Jimieus 1,698 Report post Posted August 6, 2014 It's pretty pathetic. The tin-foil hat in me says it was done to hide the reaction to news and general discussion banter - which has now been conveniently tucked away amongst the rabble. -1
Taranok 3,920 Report post Posted August 6, 2014 All I can think of with this new forum layout is that the devs are dividing an already horrendously divided, tiny community. Relatively speaking, the NA server/boards aren't terribly large, nor is the community itself, but now people need to navigate a maze of forums just to find a specific area of content. If these boards were as popular as the Something Awful forums, I could understand having a couple hundred subdivisions for each board. However, WT is not that large. Not by a long shot. Especially not for the English boards, so I find the sharding of the boards completely unnecessary and detrimental to the community as a whole. We need more populous boards before organization takes precedent over fostering communities to use individual subforums. This is just outright ridiculous.
Cynor 256 Report post Posted August 7, 2014 Thank you for mentioning it. Every time I come here I'm taken aback by the deviously Byzantine arrangement.
deadpeasant@psn 830 Report post Posted August 7, 2014 In the current situation I think it is very necassary since there are some who only are interested in aircraft, and others only interested in tanks. So the new sub sections make a lot of sense in my opinion. I understand it's a bit more work to get used to though but I think it's worth it in the long run. If that is truly a problem, which it does not seem to be currently, then aircraft and tanks should be separated entirely. Aircraft should have their own section with divisions for AB/RB/SB, and tanks should have their own section with divisions for AB/RB/SB. Especially when you consider that RB is the only section where there are mixed battles currently.
