New Aircraft

Am I the only one that thinks that war thunder should end up being the new Ace Combat but without singleplayer? I for one believe that War Thunder is going to be the World of Warplanes, World of tanks, and when it comes out the World of Warships killer. I believe that they should add Vietnam era aircraft like the Phantom and modern era aircraft like the A-10 but maybe that's just me...

It's just you, and the people that know that with the introduction of missiles, air combat is worthless..

unless they break all logic for a new system that is adopted in Ace Combat...

The Game where a Hellcat F6F ****s over MiG 47 because it has more guns...

or a MiG-21 shooting down F-22's because of gun pods ...

however those super weapons are cool.... nuclear air to land missile... rail gun... anti asteroid laser.... missile spam weapon doo hicky....

Seriously though, War Thunder's aircraft are aimed at creating a game based around dogfighting, as soon as you go towards Vietnam all of that goes out of the window with FAF missiles, planes get less air to air guns and more rockets.

What you mean is after the world got nukes that can travel across the globe we don't need planes anymore .. oh wait .. 132814906923s.gif

I hate that stupid pony and the brainless post that accompanies it. Oh my goodness. L2Think

That's one interpretation, the other one, the one I was trying to express, there is no emotion on lock on target, drop missiles, evade, flares

You should look up some of the stories about the many dogfights that were fought during the Vietnam War. The sidewinder missiles really were not that great, often times pilots were left to dogfight with their cannons. When all else fails, there are always good old fashioned guns. This happened in the Gulf War too, just to give you an idea of how much of a possibility it is even with the most highly advanced nations.

However, I think that Gaijin chose a good cut-off date. They call the Korean War the "Forgotten War" for a reason. It's nice to see it get a lot of attention, especially when you consider how interesting air combat was during the conflict.

I just think they want to avoid the missiles and supersonic jets entirely, the cutoff date is ok by me

They do, which like I said, I think is fine as well. The focus on the Korean War was just a nice bonus in my opinion.

Some very interesting points raised. Yeah the sidewinder was prone to malfunction, Korean war air combat was new with tactics attempted being carried over from props to jet powered, more hit the deck and bug out when confronted than stay and dogfight.

I enjoy the WW2 era. Chose the UK tree purely to fly the Spits and advantages or disadvantages of different countries/trees and all the different arguments and complaints I read in forums doesn't really worry me as it is about the airplanes I can fly and the dogfighting, trying to escape a bandit on your 6 or a turning dogfight to who can out fly who, yes one could argue that this is the same in jets such as the advantages/disadvantages over early sabres/migs and then on, but it's about that certain period in time, the romanticism of the era, the history.

Name one ace from Vietnam era, Korea? Both sides?

Now name some WW2 aces. I rest my case! Tally Ho  :salute:

You are comparing a world war that has had more attention than any other historical event to wars involving only a few countries. Scale, my friend, is a factor. The sheer numbers put up by various pilots during WWII were a result of the virtually limitless flight hours and what was soon to be considered bad management. The number of aircraft fielded by the factions involved in the Korean and Vietnam Wars do not remotely resemble those of WWII. Though I am sure somebody out there will come and name a few, because they did exist. Also anyone who has played high tiered jets will tell you that there are just as many tactical considerations to be made when flying Sabres as there are when flying Mustangs.

You prove my point even more by saying this, as the Korean War deserves much more attention than it gets, at least where I live. I'm sure the South Koreans study it thoroughly.

Regardless. If they did add a missile system that isn't completely broken as all hell then I do believe that is would still be a enjoyable game. I am still entitled to my opinion and if they don't add any new aircraft I will still play the game and enjoy it even with its ups and downs...

I see the potential for a post-Korean era game like War Thunder, but I think it should be a separate game, not an extension of the WT era.

Game elements such as unreliable first-generation air-to-air missiles, ground controlled intercept, radar (with all it's attendant difficulties to use), surface-to-air missiles, etc could be interesting.  It would open up the possibility for missions such as forward air controller and wild weasel which don't exist in the current game.

Something else we'll never see in WT, but I would like to see handled realistically in a game, is nuclear weapons.  Not only the strategic type delivered  by bombers, but also the air-to-air and surface-to-air nukes such as the Falcon and Nike.  Imagine taking on a hoard of Tu-95 bombers in a F-94 interceptor armed with 4 AIM-4 Falcons, each with a .25 kT warhead.

News flash:

War Thunder won't kill anything, it will kill itself instead.

You must be new here...

I am not new and I do believe that it will end up killing the other games but I think it will be a long and painful road before it ends up killing itself...

This is the first time I've posted on the forums, but this topic is more reasonable than a lot of others.  I'm not really for this idea, but I'm not exactly against it either.

Instead of going forward in time to get more advanced planes, I think First World War planes would be a more natural fit.  I don't know much about air combat history, so this might leave the Americans and Japanese with few/poor options.  However, there would be some fun planes for Britain, Germany and Russia.

Anyway that's my two cents.

Once we get every single plane, tank and ship of the current timeline we can start discussing about moving further I think.

But until then let's just focus on getting more in-timeline vehicles and how to fix broken things.
