That's right - I'm laying it on the table just like that.  I was wondering if you guys have any tips for successful prop-pilots who have now moved into the Jet tier (and have been there for sometime, without much success).  It seems the MEs and Sabres are all over my ass - not to say overpowered, but let's just say they hand my ass back to me no matter where in the sky I'm flying.  I try the same "zoom and boom" maneuvers, and for some reason, it seems like maybe my cannons don't fire at a high-enough rate to get the kind of hits I usually do with my propeller craft.  I can honestly fly a Lagg 3-11 or Yak-7B in tier V and get more hits than with my MiG-15, so I know it has something to do with how I'm approaching my targets.

I have my reticule set at 800 m - I know a lot of you probably think that's high, but for the duration of my time as a player it's always worked well for me and let's face it - we usually start firing well before that reticule appears, especially when we're going head-on or have had experience in realistic-battles.  I score hits plenty of the time before the thing even pops-up in regular non-jet battles.

Anyway, I've noticed - it seems to go either way.  Sometimes, if I aim closer to the target (especially with props), they seem to be more vulnerable to hits.  On the other hand, when I aim further ahead of them (that is, away from the reticule) it also seems to work.  Pretty much, when flying a jet, anywhere BUT the reticule gives me a higher chance of scoring a hit!  But it's unreliable.  I think the firing frequency of the cannons on those planes is just too low to chase opponents the same way you would with other tiers.  Any thoughts?  Thanks.

Stock Jet syndrome is the biggest problem. Since you mentioned the Mig 15, the cannons have strange lead since they are on the bottom of the nose, not necessarily on the nose. Also the boosted controls upgrade is the gamechanger for the Mig, then it will roll nicely and you can do evasive maneuvers with ease.

RB is where you can really use the Mig's strengths against its counterparts (high alt performance, excellent energy retention) however in Arcade the best you can do is fly towards friendlies if a Sabre or a Me-163 is on your tail. Main reason being the Sabre will outrun, outturn and outroll and outdive you and the Me-163 just outeverythings everything. Even though the Mig has excellent energy retention and amazing acceleration I will not recommend trying to shake them off your tail, it just isn't going to happen. The boosted FM in Arcade really makes those two Jets reign supreme.

Thanks for your guys' feedback.  I actually spent the coin to get my 15 [mostly] fully-upgraded, and yet - the problems I mentioned still persist.  I think you may be onto something BreastCannon, regarding the lead-situation with the bottom-nose cannons.  I hadn't considered that.  May mean I need to aim a little higher above them than I normally would.

Glad to hear the MiG-15 has some redeeming qualities in "real" life, that is RB - I just couldn't fathom that MEs and Sabres could have complete superiority, invariably.  It's been pissing me off to be quite honest.

So it wasn't just me!  What a strategy - Arcade's supposed to make everything more fun and easier, right?  Hence my incredulity.

You got that right!  No chance in hell against them, whatsoever. Thanks, useful insight.

Dude - you guys were SO right - those cocky Sabres, MEs and Vampires for that matter ain't got NOTHING on the mig (or at least, nothing disproportionately superior) in RB.  The maneuvering feels smooth, handling feels silky - all the things that were basically pitfalls for prop-planes now become assets for this fantastic jet.

Stock guns on the Migs takes some getting used to, I only fire if there is a guenttee chance of scoring hits. Aside from the boosted controls I like my stock Mig-15, I go it and my F Sabres this pass weekend and they both might be the first jets where I don't throw a little money to not be super terrible. Mig is completely doable and an F Sabre stock is as good as a fully upgraded A-5. The Sabre is better at getting out of trouble so I'm always mindful of were teammates are at. Wolf pack tactics are always a good thing to use Edited by Dubsteption

I suck at jets too, been trying to use the Ho 229 but have failed epicly.

I suck at jets because 1st: I am better at props, but want to fly jets. 2nd there are a lot of pros at that tier. Not even the =LGND1= player I used to fly with could take on them some matches.

What do you mean pros? People who get paid money to play WT?

no he means thouse who has a spaded jet and has adapted for AB jet combat. (aka pushing the jets well beyond its rb limits as ab has no limits)

i too want to fly fighter jets, but all the youtube vids i find are rb jet combat so i have no way of learning.

I mean like the high ranking =oBRSo= members Like Wolf and Emperor. in a RB match once however, Emperor got into an over speed dive while trying to get me, and he ended up crashing behind me into a tree. :lol2:

This ^^ I like playing jets in RB too, but AB seems to increase your chances of a good game (As in number of kills, not win or lose). Once, I killed 7 planes in my F2H2 Banshee in AB. So I have my good matches too.

pretty hard to grind the modelus aswell when the gs games ends so darn fast xD i'm a bomber myself but i hate it in jet games, it's a battle just to get any gu's before the rest of the bomber spam in your team =_=

Yea.  Me as well.

I have zero desire to fly jets.. Once you get in a jet it's no longer called dog-fighting.

It's more like a fight to stay on the map when doing a turn

its more or less impossible to grind modules in ab.

matches dont last longer then 4-6 mins and you are lucky if you get more then 1 plane kill in that time, and that means around 1k rp on a prem account. and when one tier 1 upgrade costs 20k, it is easy to see that ab jet combat needs a complete remake.

the only hope as it is now is airdoms as they cant be won by b57s.

My advice for jets is keep high speed at all times and lead by a ridiculous amount :)

Other than that, I remember I stopped playing jets when I realized it felt like snapshotting crazy dots on the screen. Arcade jets maneuver like UFOs, it's like air combat on LSD.

Maybe some day I'll try jets in RB.

.

and that is what makes AB jets fun, it is a genuine upgrade from props(exept the br 7.0 jets, they are a downgrade)

but you are right about high speed, so that one is universal for AB and RB.

I don't know if you play the game anymore, but there's nothing i loathe more in this game than flying jets. UGHHHHHH
