TheIronDukeLuke 158 Report post Posted May 18, 2015 For Japanese aviation history the two part series by Ikuhiko Hata, Yasuho Izawa and Christoper Shores are decent. Japanese Naval Fighter Aces and Japanese Army Fighter Aces give you alot of detail as well as aircraft specifications translated from the original japanese blueprints. For Amercican aviation history The Black Sheep by Bruce Gambel, which is about legendary VMF 214 in the pacific, is fantastic though it does not have a ton of specification and details about planes and such. For British aviation history The Few and With Wings like Eagles are great reads which focus on the battle of britain. They have alot of similar information, they are about the same subject after all, but fantastic reads nonetheless. For German Aviation history the two part series The German Aces Speak is great, probably the best military history books I have ever read. It is a compilation of intervies with various German aces and is incredibly enlightening. For Russian Aviaition I dont have anything really, I am looking for good books on the subject. Dont have too much on tanks, primarily an aviation buff :kamikadze: .

MaxRocktanski 107 Report post Posted September 24, 2015 (edited) For air war in the Pacific, as you pointed out, Fire in the Sky. Two others on a fairly specific topic: The First Team and The First Team in the Guadalcanal Campaign (both by John Lundstrom) deal with US Naval and Marine aviation at the start of the war, during the carrier battles of 1942, and in the Solomons. A bit pricey but incredibly detailed - down to which pilot flew which plane during a particular combat patrol, etc. Also has some interesting info on the tests done with a Zero captured in the Aleutians and how the Americans used that knowledge. *ChameleonLord 2,390 Report post Posted September 25, 2015 (edited) The Encyclopedia of Aircraft of WW II, General Editor Paul Eden. Panzers on the Eastern Front: General Erhard Raus and his Panzer Divisions in Russia 1941 - 1945, Edited by Peter G. Tsouras (This one is excellent as there are maps of engagement areas and it is one of the main reasons why I do not complain about the small maps... most the maps of his Panzers engagements are to the same sort of scale). Stackpole Military History Series (Pick anyone book out of that series and you will find that you crave another!)
