Air Domination the most misunderstood game mode in War Thunder

Precisely because of what you wrote, it's dependent on how lucky you get with teammates.

I had a couple of Air Dom games yesterday where the enemy team climbed straight up, straight away and took the altitude. My team, annoyingly, all went straight for furball at bottom. man! These were very frustrating games! I had to contest altitide against 6 players. I was shot down very quickly and only managed 1 kille each game (for loss of 3 aircraft).

Alas there is very little you can do in these cases. I'm a crap pilot at the BEST of times so when the odds are stacked against me ... I am doomed! I'll abandon in future.

Probably your first mistake. You probably just fed them planes. Better to stay alive and look for opportunities than fight for space that you won't win, nor is critical.

Fwiw, i've found the 'up high' players tend to want to keep their long climbed altitude rather than chase anyone too far down. As long as you are below them and above the furball you should have some room to move. I've found ~1-2km around the sides a good middle ground when you've lost top. Then you can still impact battles below you while still maintaining cap presence and safety from above. If they do dive that far down you still have some alt to dive and even if you do die at low alt you'll likely be respawning in a position where you can at least challenge the diver on more similar energy terms.

Tell me again how good this mode is, oh great defenders of the AirDom, when half of the team leaves the match in the first 2 minutes, and you end up 2 vs 14 after 5 minutes...

Such fun, so much wow.

Although it was quite fun to see 14 players chase me when I was the last one on my team... I almost escaped too, but they brought me down just before the match ended.

^Indeed.

I think that Air Domination is the best that WT has to offer atm. I really enjoy the long battles and good fighting, instead of desperately trying to intercept the brainless bomber spam. Too bad that most of the games still are GS, I'd really like to see more AD.

I can understand the bomber pilots disliking it, but as far as interesting battles it seems to be providing in spades. One clear and obvious area for the fighting means even the slower learners have figured out where they need to be.

According to Gaijin there isn't any issue with players leaving AD early:

"Statistically, Air Domination does not have many issues with players leaving the match early which is indicative of an issue to Gaijin"

It then begs the question whether similar is happening in other modes, if gaijin are to be believed.

It might be fun if:

1) when you were capping the zone, you had some idea of the boundaries...I just came out of one of these stupid matches and I was capping all over the place, but never actually got the cap...No one was above me and apparently the zone just kind of floated around daring me to find it, which because of:

2) CLOUD LAYERS from 2000 ft to 17,000 ft made it impossible...I have never seen a company consistently and repeatedly go out of their way to piss off so much of their player base...No one flew in cloud cover like this EVER!!!!...And it is almost every match now....Non stop cloud covered air dom with clouds starting at 2-3000 ft and covering to 16,000 ft...Why don't you just put a cap on our altitude at 3000 ft and tell us to bad so sad...Pointless to try and use any plane the way it was designed because of all these cheap, historically inaccurate, pointless techniques to herd people into non stop furballing...

I agree with the "Under" part.

Under thought that is.

I encourage everyone who dislikes it to just quit when they are forced to play it.

The code behind determining the winner of the round is faulty when the point is not captured and time has run out.

Your team will be dominating the whole round and end up with many planes in the air and you can end up loosing.

To me that spell faulty code.

If there is no obvious winner by the time the round counts down then it should default to whoever has the most planes left or in the air.

But it doesn't and therefore it's flawed.

That is not the problem of the mode, it is a problem of the teammates that abandoned you.
Complain to them.

This is honestly what I think the problem is for most people who dislike AD.  They either blame the mode for their own inadequacies or blame the mode for their teammates being quitters (likely due to blaming the mode for their own inadequacies).

Some of the blame should fall on Gaijin for being unnecessarily opaque regarding how to win the mode.  That being said, when I have a question, I go out and get an answer rather than flailing about in adolescent angst.  This angst is why there isn't just one thread on the topic, but instead every prima donna wah wah kid feels the need to come start their own "OMG Air Dom SOOOO BAD!! REMOOOVVV NAO PLZ!" thread that usually amounts to nothing but a bunch of "this mode is pointless" or "But, I wanna boooommmmbbb."

So, for everyone who's like "Ugh, so sick of Air Dom," I'm responding with "Ugh, so sick of people whining about Air Dom."

If Gaijin would just let players choose what mode(s) this would be sorted.

DO you REALLY think that's an option? Really?  To even suggest it as a solution seems a little silly to me.

I think letting people choose the mode they want to play would be the biggest mistake Gaiijin could make.

Why?

I've played other similar games that have done it and it's great.

Forcing people to play what they don't want to is never a good idea.

Eventually they'll have enough and leave.

simply cus wt's playerbase isnt big enough, in games like cod and bf having teh choice on what types of maps and gametypes to paly isnt such a big deal and you can almost always find a full game going on, wt players are spread all over the place and tiers

Sorry wrong.

I played Mech Warrior Online which was a much smaller games - they did.

Worked great.

Much happiness from everyone.

I didn't mention anything about maps - just modes.

Really can't see that happening.

And I think GS would be better with more bombers and less fighters (they would need to increase the number of ground targets and base HPs).

Imagine not having a dozen fighters all over the place, shooting your bomber down as soon as you get near an enemy ground target.

Maybe even a Wellington could make it across the map without being swarmed.  (well lets not go too far).

And it would be great for fighters - so many targets to choose from :)

One of the big problems with GS is too many fighters.

So many people just dive down into the Monkey Pit (you know that area around the middle of the map at about 2,000 ft).

Those types could just go play Air Domination and have fun chasing each other's tails.  (yes I know that's not how you win Air Dom).

The game is Beta - why not try it for a week - they can anyways change it back if it doesn't work.

Here's one player who would gladly never queue for GS again if there was a choice. I'd be happy to let the PvE spacebar heroes have their race to kill harmless AI ground targets as fast as they can before dumping each other back to the hangar. If that's what they want from the game, why deny them?
