The Soviet M3 Lee

The M3 Lee in American hand

The M3 Medium Tank was an American tank used during the Second World War. In Britain the tank was called by two names based on the turret configuration. Tanks employing US pattern turrets were called the "Lee", named after General Robert E. Lee. Variants using British pattern turrets were known as "Grant", which is already in the game, but today I'm suggesting the Soviet Lend-Leased M3 Lee.

Dimension and statistics of the M3 Lee

Dimension 18ft 6in x 8ft 11in x 10ft 3in(5.64x2.72x3.12 m

Total weight, short 30 tons

Crew. 7(Lee)-6(Grant)

Propulsion Wright Continental R975 EC2 340/400 hp

Speed 26 mph (42 km/h) road
16 mph (26 km/h) off-road

Range 195 km (121 mi) at medium speed (19 mph/30 km/h)

Armament. Main: 75 mm (2.95 in) M2/M3 in the sponson

Secondary: 37 mm (1.46 in) M4/M5 in the turret
2-4 cal.30 (7.62 mm) M1919 machine-guns

Armour. From 30 to 51 mm (1.18-2 in)

M3 Lee in the Red Army
As part of the Lend-Lease plan, a shipment of 1300+ M3A3s and M3A5s (diesel versions) were convoyed to Murmansk and put in operational use by Soviet armoured brigades, notably around Leningrad and Stalingrad. But they quickly realised this model was not a winner, and after one year of hard fighting, the surviving ones (infamously called "collective grave for six people") were retired from front-line operations and shipped to quieter or less well-defended sectors, like the Arctic.

How M3 Lee have been used in the Red Army
In the USSR, the M3 Lee was transferred directly from the USA through the Lend Lease program and took part in the Kursk battle and on the Don Front.

Why I suggest it
It's not a 2~3 tank that's used in war rarely, more than 1300 is used so it's a machine that's really being used and helped the war.

How it can be in the game:
As a tier I/II Soviet premium cost around 1000~2000GE or in a $9.99 bundle with premium account for 3 days, with BR of 2.7/3.0, to make it more unique, it can have the soviet tank ace skin.

Why putting American tank in Soviet tech tree, is my first question (why do all tech trees need American vehicles).

Also, Soviet tech tree already has SMK and T-35, it doesnt need another multi-turreted prem tank.

Because they used it.

Well, they also used British vehicles, so why dont they get a chance?

What makes you think they won't?

Wait, really?

I'd honestly like to see that, both the historical citation and in-game(preferably both)

Because they used it.

Funny, you seem to be opposed to such things if it's an Axis nation that used somebody else's stuff operationally, but I guess that's besides the point.

On a more on-topic note, I don't see any reason why not.

Seems to me that this is another suggestion for the sake of suggestion. Okay certainly there is no reason the russians should not get this tank. But there are already two similar versions of the Lee in the american line, one already premium, and its safe to assume the british line with have at least one Lee also.

Its it really necessary to have 4 different Lees in game. Will it really add that much fun to the game as a russian tank. As another poster has already pointed out the russians have plenty of premium options already so does this tank really add anything to the lower russian tiers.

No its just more clutter. I am all for more unique tanks. This is just one more tank that most people won't play and will take away from the individuality of the different tech trees. Philosophically a good suggestion. Pragmatically a bad one.

I'd like to see more differences in tech trees, rather than to have everything in every nation. While it may be a minor effect in AB, it screws RB/SB - simply because its another style of playing getting available to a nation. The better you know what to expect, the more you can refine your strategies and approaches to the situation. Having to expect everything all the time leads to the lowest common denominator, resulting in the most generic strategies possible.

TL;DR: adding vehicles to other nations trees leads to dull matches.

Well the Grant will be removed from the online store in a couple of days (and will become such a rarity it's not even worth counting) probably because it will be a regular in the Brit tree, and will create a "vacant premium spot" for the M3 Lee to be in the Soviet tree.

Two Lee's and one Grant won't break the game.

I am not saying it will break the game. If you read what i wrote I am saying in reality it won't have any effect at all on game play. I am saying it is redundant. There are already better options in the soviet line both premium and in the tech tree. This, and all are welcome to disagree, would simply be another tank just to add another tank. I am all for more unique vehicles but this would simply be a rarely used or purchased vehicle that would take away a small amount of individuality from other nations.

I agree we need less captured vehicles but I would also limit lend lease vehicles. At this point there are already plenty of premium options to satisfy new players as well as veteran players. I have no problem with an individual buying their way into the game. The more the merrier. But lets leave something to grind for.

1300 built and sent in the historically significant event called the Lend Lease Act?  There's no real excuse not to have it, especially when considering that's about 1/4th of all Lee production, ever.

And I kinda wanna see russian Lees with the confederate flag stapled around everywhere with southern tankers shouting in chat "THE CONFEDERATION LIVES ON!"
