Italian BR 9.0 Fighter - Fiat G.91Y

The Italian Fiat G.91Y is a Fighter-Bomber designed by the Italians, it was capable of 1,110 km/h and armed with 2x 30mm DEFA Cannons, and 4 hardpoints on the wings with a max load of 4,000lbs of ordnance. It was powered by 2 General Electric J85-GE-13A turbojet Engines delivering 4,080 lbf each.

The Aircraft itself would make for a good edition for the Italians, whom's jets are lacking, out of candidates for BR 8,3 and 8,7 come the G.91/R4 and G.91/R3, however, none of these fighters truly make for a BR 9.0 fighter, which creates a dilemma, that is that the Fiat G.91Y is way out of Timeline, having entered service in 1966, which means it could potentially leave Italy without a BR 9.0 fighter, something all nations need.

I'm basing this suggestion on that dilemma and on the fact that the Devs have the final word on the Aircraft, but due to balance reasons, I strongly believe that this Aircraft, for any chance to make Italy truly competitive at Tier V is to add this plane.

This is a nice plane and I like, but the first flight was in 1966.  :(s

Around as fast as an F-86F, very significantly better climb rate than a MiG-15bis.  Er, no.

That's why the MiG-17A is needed for the MiG line.

Developers have already said before that although the timeline is 1953, they would accept planes past that for balancing reasons.

This plane would still club it with a stupidly high climb rate.  The MiG-17F would even get kicked around more often than not.

Hell, none of the Sabres or FJ Furies have the capacity to combat this aircraft effectively.  That includes the very latest variants.

The G.91, G.91R and G.91R3 are much closer to current jet performance

G.91Y is also close to current jet performance, as it didn't have all the advanced avionics that were in planes such as the F-4F and MiG-19 and 21.

Yes, for balancing reasons, which this plane would single-handedly and completely upset.

And most planes in game don't have their realistic climb rate.

The G.91Y outdoes all known jets and then some.

Not really.

The G.91Y outdoes all known jets and then some.

Actually it doesn't.

MiG-17F has a climb rate of 65 m/s.  It would club everything in the game.  Your suggestion has a climb rate 20 m/s higher than that.

Yes they do, you just don't know how to climb

Everything except the climb rate fits the game. Are you sure there is not another variant with less climb rate

Aermacchi MB-326 seems like an interesting alternative and its from the 50's (became operational in 62), was a good export for the Italians, seems a good ground attack light fighter.

MB-326 actually set some records to one was which a climb record and an altitude record, albeit on paper it has a climb rate of a mere 22.3 m/s.

some more book stuff

Italian CR.25 heavy fighter, Fiat G.59, G55a G-56 G-55, I.M.A.M. Ro 51, 57 and 58, Reggiane RE 2005, S.A.I. Ambrosini s.s.4 s.207 and 403, SIAi-Marchetti s.m91, m92, Ansaldo AC4 and Caproni Vizzola had some fine examples of Italian engineering.

Also, germans seemed to have ignored the Arado lineup AR 65 (which could replace thte Italian T0 starter cr42 and g50) was equally if not more popular then the HE 51

(edit) Arado 68, intead of AR 65

I know how to climb, just saying that most aircraft don't have their realistic climb rates.

This is from wiki so it's more likely that the climb rate is either at high altitude and not specified or from another variant which had enhanced avionics and sidewinders

I think the Cl 13 MK.5 is missing a few m/s climbrate dunno how much but the 38 m/s it has comes from 93% throttle at least that is my understanding after reading about it in an old threat. Aside from that i think that most jets have the right climb stats, but the Fiat G91.Y is just over the top in that regard if u ask me.

even tho i'm usually open to stretching the timeline to fit certain things, first flight in 66 is really pushing it even for me =/ and that climbrate far exceeds ingame jets, even counting the hunter and saab draken in the future

It looks like people are splitted about this. Set up a poll for the plane. Personly i think the r/3 is good enough for 9.0.
