Game shows as not installed in Steam library... but it is

I was able to play the game through Steam yesterday without any issues.  Today, I did my usual launch routine by clicking the War Thunder option from the toolbar.  Ordinarily, the launcher pops up, checks for updates, then I click Play and off I go.  This time, I received the Steam installation popup:

Confused, I went to the Steam library and, sure enough, according to Steam the game has not been installed:

So, I checked the installation folder to make sure everything was still where it should be... and it is:

I am able to successfully launch the game through the aces.exe icon within the folder and I can also successfully launch from the Nvidia GeForce Experience games tab.  And even after launch through those methods, the game still shows as uninstalled in the Steam library.  And, of course, I tried a PC restart just to see if something was being stupid.

Any suggestions?  As long as I'm still able to play the game (which I am) I'm not too upset about anything... but it sure is goofy.

Hi there,

Yeah steam sometimes stops recognizing the installation files for some reason on a number of games over the last year for me. You can just hit download and Steam then re-recognizes the installation files (dumb i know)  i don't know why and lost interest in finding out why,as it was doing my head in a bit, i just put it down to steam acting up as per usual. I haven't had this in a wile though.

You could try verifying the files via steam, that's worked for me in some cases

Other times iv had to just bite the bullet and reinstall the game

Alternative to this iv had to re-add the game folder to my steam library, even though it said it was there that's fixed things in the past. to.

hope this helps  :)s

Thanks for the suggestions.  I didn't click on the install button since I was afraid it would nuke all of the game files.  I'll try the verification process first and if that doesn't work I'll click on the install button to see what happens.  I'm not really interested in going through the trouble of reinstalling everything (since the game is still perfectly functional) just to have it reappear in my Steam library, so we shall see what happens.

Thanks again!

I wasn't able to verify the files since Steam didn't recognize WT as being installed, but I when I clicked the Install button it went through the file discovery process and resolved the issue in just a few moments.  Everything is honky dory. This is the first time I recall running into this issue with Steam (I've been using it for 8 or 9 years now?), but at least now I know how to resolve the problem.

Thanks again! :salute:
