I agree, BUT....   This happens to me a lot, and I'm sure I've done it a couple of times.  Having felt disappointed at it happening to me, I try to avoid doing it to others.  But it's often impossible to tell the condition of the target and it's often impossible to tell if someone is firing at it, unfortunately.  The historical adage has always been "fire at the target until it burns".  And without even rudimentary comms and the ability to only be able to practice individual tactics and not troop/platoon tactics (i.e. assigning arcs) or even squadron/company, a lot of things are difficult to do. :)

Exactly, you dont know if his breech is damaged, crew unconsious so he cannot fire or just reloading and taking his time to aim to kill your teammate. You dont hesitate, you fire

Do not spam smoke. You need it, use it, but do not just pop-smoke in tanks or engage smoke generators in ship cause you are bored. Someone behind you might be lining up a shot or drive straight to enemy's firing line because of it.

I will throw smoke at people on my team not doing anything useful. Like when 5 people are camped out behind a rock at spawn all trying to shoot at one other tank. It works about 50% of the time and a few will move elsewhere....otherwise I dont waste I guess

Well I am a newish player... this was entertaining.

I read this thread because I was wondering if the friendly machine gun fire was some sort of signalling like War Thunder traffic horn.

I would like to mention that in real pre-jet age air combat, ramming was tactic used on occasion.. The germans had a wing trained in it Sonderkommando "Elbe".

The germans where also working on a specialized ramming plane as was the US. The Soviets also used ramming attacks, but it was not doctrine, but they did have a word for it taran, and they might have been the first or only country in WW2 to have a ramming attack by a female pilot.

I do find that when I am driving along in my tank and lining up a shot, it is really annoying suddenly have a plane come down on top of me, spoiling my shot, and marking my position. When I am flying I want every single SL I can get, so I always try and get the Safe and Sound Award, but sometimes you take damage in dive might as well be spoiler.

Machinegun fire along 1 side of you often does mean "Coming through" - so don't turn to cut them off.

Something for players transitioning from Arcade to Realistic:

- Do not give away the Tank Destroyer's location.

Tank destroyers generally can not take even a single shot but a well-sited tank destroyer can lock down a whole side of the map. Driving up beside them and firing off an autocannon is extremely poor play style and marks you as Ace. Trying to "take their spot" means the vehicle is effectively out of play and you are giving their location away to wary enemies. Many tank destroyers, especially lower tier ones, are quite slow and it takes a long time for them to set up and lock down their kill zone. Yes, you many prefer fast scooters or heavy brawlers but tank destroyers are there for a reason, use them to your advantage.

Just a few tips for those getting started in WT/GF, and some common faux pas committed by inexperienced players.

Well my dear friend you missed out 2 points.

9: help you team out by capping flags and support pushers, take up a fighting position and if you see a opening to puch into a cap DO it
and don't just stand and count your kills.
*I usely capping 2-4 caps every single match while ending up at 1-5 place in my team 90% of my games... non other tryies to cap*

10: if you see lemming train form to one single flag split up and try out a new stradegy.
don't need to explain this one I guess :P

An appendage to #7. Be nice to other people, even if you are losing. Just because you are on the internet doesn't mean there are no rules.

Oh, another one. Don't spray your MG at or near teammates. It may seem harmless, but if a stray shot hits a very lightly armored allied tank, or an allied open top vehicle, it hurts a lot more than you think. Don't do it.

does this still hold? it doesnt do anything in arcade/realistic

Okay I got a question that I asked in-game and got a couple of rude and stupid comments back. I've seen this quite a few times now. In Ground Realistic, what's up with people hauling **** to a zone and stopping a few feet or so outside the zone? I've also seen a few asking for the team to wait. The other day someone did and his tank was a lot slower than the others. I actually stopped because I knew this wasn't going to end well. Between him and his squadron we lost 5 tanks and the zone was captured by the other team.

Generally, you should only wait on the capture zone near the team's spawn at the start of the match.  Contested zones should not be waited, including those near zones later in the match if a team decides to push even further.

I can't count how many times I've been tracked or had an engine hit half a tank length away from a Cap. Almost got there team....

its annoying when an ally plows into your rear because he didnt look where he was going and consequently tailgated, only to put a bucked of mg shots into the back of ur turret as if its ur fault ur slower and he tailgated.

So what is the preferred method for congratulating an opposing player for some excellent play? Do you use General chat or is a PM more appropriate?

Saying "nice work" either typing or quick chat is fine

If you see someone that has flipped and is being helped be their cover and make sure that you take the first hit or shoot the enemy before they can see you or them.

Sadly i never see any of the good recommendations happen in game.
People are far worse than anything Gajin could do to it

People constantly plow into you at top speed.
Considering that the game gives a large FOV external view, there is 0 excuse for doing that over and over.
Especially right at 1st spawn.

Or they cut you off, and then get mad and rage that you hit them, when actually they hit you when they decided out of the blue to cut right across your nose
for no explainable reason, as if you were invisible.

Also, frequently, if you have a good position with your TD, someone will come along and ram you up out of it
at which point you get eaten by enemy units because most TD's can not take a punch very well, especially low BR ones.
Nothing like sitting mostly under cover with a little french tin can TD, sniping with the 25mm and having a friendly come and bash you out into enemy fire
so they can have the spot for their vehicle which actually has armor, unlike the Panhard.

Communications is, well kind of non existent
Seems most people just spam random auto comms.
1 flag on the map and people spamming attack the D point, defend the C point etc.
And they can not be buggered to type anything or look at anything that you type.

That is not surprising i guess, because trying to play as a team seems to be mostly non existent, unless maybe in a squad.

usually a mess of people picking the wrong unit for the wrong job, like tank fighting with SPAA, and no one sticking together and trying to support each other
which you sort of need to communicate a little to do.

And what gives with people either unloading half their ammo on 1st spawn, usually into the side of everyone else, or spewing all manner of smoke?
By the time you can see anything, you have probably just drove into a position where the enemy can also see you.
And shooting stuff at allies is just a neon sign that says Hey something maybe worth shooting here, cause the enemy already knows that none of his guys are there.

And people that refuse to respawn when they lose a unit annoy me.
I only play low BR kit, and the repairs just do not cost that much, why come to play if your going to call it quits on the 1st scratch and just sit there for the duration?
Almost as bad as when half your guys go off flying around, and there are no enemy planes to worry about, and they are screwing off doing loops or straffing random stuff with a fighter
while enemy armor units cap all the flags.

I am sure it is probably a lot better in a squad, but being that i usually get to play maybe 1 day a week, cause real life has other ideas
it does not  exactly look enticing to a squad, plus i only like to play the low tiers, up to BR2.3, i have everything in creation researched, just not that interested
in using it.

My questions are fairly simple, and may fall within the the parameters of this post:

-In arcade battle, how do you tag an enemy so they show up on the map?  As annoying as it is, I see other players spamming out opponents positions like crazy and on occasion it can be helpful.

-In arcade battle, how do you call out for help and give you position?  Again, I hate how help is spammed but there have been an occasion or 2 that someone could have helped me out and they are looking the wrong direction or something.

While I am thinking about it, maybe this could be added to the etiquette list:

If you do a teamkill, at least acknowledge and perhaps even apologize for taking out a teammate.  I know there have been times I've inadvertently done a TK, and always have tried to stop and apologize immediately.  Doing a TK without even acknowledging that you did this usually will start the killers name being drug thru the mud, and artillery strikes called down on him or her.  It's better to focus on blowing up the opponent than going after or dodging your own teammate.

In Arcade, tier two and above light tanks (and some TDs/AAs) can use the Scouting ability, which calls out where the enemy is for 30 seconds.

You need to type in team chat that you need help and ping your location on the map so they know where you are. If they're German mains, don't expect help.
