Sodanjumala 589 Report post Posted November 14, 2015 (edited) During the Lapland War (15.9.1944-27.4.1945) German 3rd Mountain Army commenced scorched policy on Lapland cities and roads. During that time, Germans burned over 90% of houses in Western Lapland, destroyed infrastructure and mined the rest without remorse. Some whole villages were destroyed and major cities took decades to rebuild. There is thousands of mines still at Lapland soil and every month new are found. And there is a tradition in Lapland that when a group of Germans arrive, you light a match. Sahrevar 2 Report post Posted November 18, 2015 After burning Lappland they (the Germans) continued burning northern Norway (Finnmark and Troms east of Lyngen) everything was burnt. A few houses where spared in Vardø and Vadsø, while Båtsfjord, Bugøynes og Hamningbergand was left unburnt. The German officer who spared them became some sort of respected friend (kommandant Flach). The man who gave the order for this atrocities was named Lothar Rendulic who I think was the man who ordered the burning of Lappland too?
