They have the make HESH work correctly tho.

yeah it was modelled correctly a few patches ago but someone complained and now its broken again   the sooner it is modelled correctly again the better. Especially as British T5 don't have access to HEATFS god shells

Would the roller blade on it count as better armour? :3
What would the reload be like? 17 seconds? I could see this at a BR of 7.0 as a tier 4 premium, or a regular tier 5 tank. I wanted this in WoT but it has more chance here so.... +1.

I had ideas concerning a line on this basis as you could do a whole lot with it... the Brits did like tank howitzers

i can't see why not, i read in the rumor round up there's possibly the chance of a similar German line, the StuH is one such vehicle already! then brummbar, early and late, followed by STURMTIGER.

The Brits had comparable vehicles, like the spigot mortar of the Churchill AVRE

Well it can go the whole way, tier 1-5 with this closing as the Chieftain AVRE comes into service too late. There are of course 2 Churchill AVREs to fill up tier 4 as well.

EDIT: I will probably have it ready by tonight :)

didn't the 2nd Churchill AVRE have the same L9 165mm as this???

All the countries did, The Russians have the KV2 that was a bunker buster not a tank killer as wasthe SU-152.

The Americans have got the 105mm Sherman in game im not sure if hey had more i know they copied the British L9 in the late sixties though and put it on a M60.

It's got enough boom that they should work nicely even if just modeled as HE.

Someone was making a brew just over the vents of one during Desert Storm and accidentally the whole tank, the pictures say enough about the ammo:

I'll link this up for detailed information if you don't mind

Yes the second Churchill did indeed, but it's slow and has poorer gun depression so this would remain a higher tier.
The brits used 5 howitzers that I am aware of, the 94mm, 3inch, 290mm, 165mm and the 95mm

at first i didnt believe you and so i googled.

this is a witness report from an old military forum

"while browsing the internet i came accross this incident. i was there on the day and saw it all unfold. we had parked up in troop line for an orders group when the first fire broke out. "wolfy" the pod op was washing the airfilters/ engine decks with benz (pink petrol) while a crew member was using a cooker (i believe inside the turret) the fumes flashed through and the first avre caught alight (think this was john mudds tank driven by sparky). as it began to cook off the column starburst but one AVRE could not (either dead or too dangerous to move). there was then the largest explosion i have ever seen. 70 odd 165 rounds, 30 cal and 50 cal ammunition, personal arms and grenades plus full fuel tanks went up in a second. this caught the second alight and the process was repeated.
apparently road wheels were landing over 2 miles away in an arty base who thought at first they had "in comming"!!!

both tanks were from 31 armoured engineer sqn 32 armoured engineer regt and i believe 5 troop. cpl mudd was definatly one of the commanders but not sure about the second.

all that was left of the 2 avres was one track which i have a photo of me sitting on"

No, they are derivatives of two ww1 howitzers, the 94mm is based on a mountain howitzer whilst the 95mm saw use on Cromwell and Centaur

i didnt notice youd actually included the 95mm in your post haha why i edited mine

anyway back on topic can we find any stats about the L9 i found some velocities for the old one but the Centurion was improved... the L9A1 with better shells too

Can't find any data specifically for the later shells, but they were still trackable with the naked eye, so it's not too much faster.  The American rounds were different, so we can't use their gun data.

The american guns were nearly identical to the original L9 including about half of the HE filler :(

There's a reason they never really cottoned on to HESH

There's a reason they never really cottoned on to HESH

Even if they modelled it as a HE i just realised it will be 3.5x bigger boom than KV2 shell

Mass of TNT in KV2 shell is 6.86kg

mass of C4 in FV4003 is 18.14kg

C4 Relative Effectiveness value is 1.34

(18.14/6.86)*1.34 = 3.54   hehe big boom  :?s

unless ive completely misunderstood the concept here

couldnt find the AVRE firing :(

Ok, use of Howitzers in British service.

We had no real HE or smoke ability so each squadron command troop had two howitzer tanks assigned to them.

Tetrarch, Churchill, Matilda, Valentine, Covenanter and Crusader all had a variant with the 3inch Howitzer but HE only

The A9, A10 and A13 cruisers had a 3.7inch variant, again HE only.

Now, this is where it gets fun.

Centaur, Cromwell, the later, uparmoured, Churchill and the Alecto had variants incorporating a 95mm Howitzer which had HEAT shells issued.

The Churchill AVRE had a 290mm spigot mortar but range was limited to 80 yards.

Oh and we built two Centurion AVRE variants one had the 105mm L7 the second had the 165mm bigbadaboom
