The Quick "Question and Answer/Advice" Thread

Hello guys. Can somebody advise the controls settings for aircrafts for keyb+mouse? The problem is, that with my current settings it's impossible to steer the pitch and roll with keyboard normally and precisely, becase the plane reacts too harsh. Controlling pitch/roll with mouse takes a lot of space on desk and you have to put the mouse up/down.

Can anyone tell me how exactly the daily login reward system works? I know that its a system for getting rewards for consecutive logins, but I would like to know the exact details.

Here's my keybinds for aircraft. They're pretty close to default with some minor tweaks, as everyone has their own preferences. Really, once you've got major controls set up the way you like them, you can tweak other options to fit your personal preference.

Obviously all your control surfaces and throttle control should be located in easy to reach places for one hand. These are the most basic flight controls you need. You will need to experiment with Aim and Zoom sensitivities yourself. They follow a 0-100 slider. I keep my aim sensitivity around 25% and my camera speed at around 50% Experiment with different settings yourself, there is no 'right' answer for these sliders. Bear in mind that my controls are set to Mouse Aim, which is a step above Simplified. You can of course add in extra controls from Realistic or Full-real Controls such as Prop Feathering or Toggling the Engine On/Off, but these are 100% pointless in Arcade mode, and typically require a joystick set-up as they are designed for Sim mode. Anyway, on to the basics!

W- Throttle Up (Up to 100%, HOLD for WEP)

S- Throttle Down

A- Roll left

D- Roll Right

Q- Yaw Left (Rudder)

E- Yaw Right (Rudder)

Left CTRL- Pitch Up (Elevator)

Left Shift- Pitch Down (Elevator)

Many people like to map their throttle to the mouse wheel, I personally prefer to have it close to my flight controls, and leave the mouse for combat focused controls. It's up to you.

Moving on, the following are typically more reliant on personal preference. Here are mine.

F- Toggle Flaps (Typically retracts flaps, or lowers Combat flaps. At low altitude, lowers landing flaps. On runway, lowers takeoff flaps. Context sensitive essentially)

G- Lower/Raise Landing Gear

H- Toggle Airbrakes

[ / ]- CycleFlaps (Cycles through the various positions for the flaps, starting at retracted and then moving to combat, followed by takeoff and lastly landing)

V- Cycle Views (Quickly jump between view modes, starting with standard third person tailing cam, moving to cockpit, then virtual cockpit and back again for fighters. Bombers will have 2 additional view modes, one for bomb sights and one for gunners)

J- Bail out of plane (Hold for 3 seconds to eject from the plane, counts as a death, unless you are FULLY repaired and sitting on the runway, where it counts as a re-spawn, but allows you to keep the plane)

C- Hold for Mouse Look (Essentially, Free Camera. Allows you to look around while still controlling the plane. Useful when checking for targets/threats to your sides, above/below and behind you. Or for tracking an opponent while in a turn fight or while running away from someone)

For a standard mouse with 2 buttons and a scroll wheel, this is pretty standard. If you have a gaming mouse like myself, with multiple buttons on the top and sides, you can map additional functions like individual guns, or weapons releases or engine controls)

Left Mouse Button- Fire all Guns (Fires all pilot controlled weapons, both machine guns and cannons)

Middle Mouse Button (Clicking Scroll Wheel)- Lock Target

Right Mouse Button- Snap Zoom (Quickly zooms in on a locked target, useful in dogfights when you need to see what the enemy is doing, or when you are tracking a target)

Scroll Wheel- Zoom In and Out

And here are some weapons setups. My own setup has several different bindings on my mouse to fire different caliber guns, drop bombs in sequence, etc... However, all you really need is a single Shoot Button, one for dropping Bombs and one for Rockets.

Left Mouse Button- Fire all Guns (As mentioned above, all pilot controlled machine guns and cannons will shoot)

SPACE- Drop Bombs/Activate Scrage Musik (Drops bombs one at a time)

R- Fire Rockets (Fires rockets in pairs I believe)

Y- Reload (In Arcade Air, reloads all guns in flight. Bombs and rockets reload automatically once you've dropped all of them. In Realistic and Sim, you must land to reload and rearm)

Many people choose to have guns bound to the Space Bar, as sometimes when you click a mouse button, your aim may shift. I just prefer to have all my weapons controls on my mouse, so this is up to you.

Lastly, here are some basic game UI controls as well.

M- Pull up the Map screen

TAB- Pull up Team Rosters/Scores

ENTER- Pull up Chat Window (TAB when chat window is open to switch between Team Chat, All Chat and lastly Squad Chat)

ESC- Pause Menu

T- Team Radio Messages (T toggles the menu, simply follow the on screen button prompts to send a quick audio message such as 'Well Done' or 'Attacking X')

Remember! These can all be switched out for personal preference. Most of this is just the most basic you can get, with a few more advanced controls thrown into give you an idea. Use what you like, and play around with different setups. Obviously I haven't listed my entire control setup as that would just be overkill, but you get the idea!

Obviously as the name suggests, it's a reward you can claim every 24 hours by simply logging in. These take the form of RP or SL boosters (These can be single mission 500% boosts, multi mission 10% boosts etc...) but you can also receive Test Drives (An hour to drive a premium vehicle, essentially a trial) and it's also possible to get Premium vehicles Silver Lions or Golden Eagles.

From what I understand, there is a 14 day cycle to the rewards. On day 7, you get a handful of Boosters OR Wagers, and there's even the chance for getting some Silver Lions. On day 14, you can get Golden Eagle Wagers, higher chance of Silver Lions or even Golden Eagles.

I can't recall, but you may also get Discount Coupons for Premiums (Like 30% off) in the Daily Log-In Rewards. Or I may be thinking of the post battle 'Loot Crates'

After 100 days, you get a 'Veteran' Decal. You also get one for 1 year, and for 5 years I believe.

Missing a daily login however, will reset your progress back to day 1. So be warned!

I want to upload a replay, how?

As far as I understand there is no 'in game' method of uploading a replay, as the replay files on your computer are simply data used in the WT client, and not an actual video file. There are server side replays, but you have to search for those on the Warthunder site, and they can only be viewed in the game.

The easiest way to show off a sweet game or bring up evidence of a cheater is to record the in game replay using a third party capture program.

Simply get a copy of OBS, FRAPS or something similar and set it up to record. In Warthunder, find the replay you want to share and load it up. Here you can disable UI elements, change camera views, etc... Once you are happy with how the replay will look (Say you wanted to show the game from your point of view, or be a little more cinematic and follow your plane with exterior cameras) simply start your recording software and start capturing. Begin the replay in Warthunder and the capture software will record everything on your screen. Afterwards, simply edit and upload to Youtube or something.

Needless to say, the easiest way to capture your footage is to simply record your gameplay. The replay system in Warthunder makes mistakes, since everything is run server side, not off your computer. So, sometimes in replays you may not see gun fire going where it's supposed to, or players not where you remember them being. Recording all of this in a match while it happens mitigates this considerably, so just be aware!

Are you playing SB(Simulator Battles)? It seems like you're using Mouse Joystick mode. If you use mouse in SB, it automatically switches to Mouse Joystick mode. I advise getting an real joystick, even a cheap one, for playing in SB.

How do i calibrate my aiming distance?

I tried setting "sight distance control" to
Num+
Num-
NumDel

Num0

Doesn't work no matter which button i press. The aim cross stays in the same position

I find that using the number pad for anything doesn’t work, so try the regular +- or your mouse scroll.

This may seem like a dumb question, but is you NUM Lock key enabled? If it isn't, you won't be able to use the 0 key or the number DEL key. However, number + and - should still work, so I can't say for sure. Have you considered binding these controls to the arrow keys on the keyboard? Alternatively you can use the scroll wheel.

Please note that setting the distance doesn't change the crosshairs, It stays in the center of your view. However the horizontal lines in the gunner view change and get elevated. In default your crosshairs aim at a point right in front of you, aligned with your gun. If you set the distance to 1000 metres your crosshair aims at a point 1000 metres away from you and your gun is elevated to offset the shell drop. If crosshairs are on target and distance is set right a shot will hit.

Or a video Sight distance WT on youtube

How do you turn off bushes/trees in ULQ? I heard there was an option for this

No you can't turn off tree's or bushes in ULQ. They will simply appear as less pretty versions of their high end graphic counterparts. The reason for this is because people have been abusing ULQ in Tank battles to get a competitive edge on people who play with higher settings. Removing these obstacles altogether would be even more unfair than things already are. In the graphics settings you can toggle at what distance high poly versions of trees and bushes become low poly versions, as well as at what distance grass is rendered around your tank, or through your binoculars.

How about some real guidance on how to aim / fire your naval guns in the Closed Naval Battles? Even with 100% crew, maxed out ship, and target clearly in my sights I'm tired of the game telling me I missed and I end up dead.

How do I access the naval part of the game?

I have an army and an aircraft tab on the bottom left of the base screen.

Don't know how to get to navy.

Thanks

Naval is available for US, Russia and Germany. Open the research screen for any of these nations and you will find a fleet tab. Perhaps you will want to create a new preset for your navy. Hit the preset button, choose add from the preset window and then fill your crew slots with boats. Well there is only a reserve boat available when you start but it can spawn three times in a naval battle.

I got the 12th British Naval CBT "Tester's star" just now and unlocked the research tree.

Do I need more stars to unlock higher tiers of the British tree or is there any other use for additional stars beyond the 12th one? Or am I basically done with collecting those stars now?

You should have full access to the research tree now. Further stars don't have any more benefit. You can progress in the tree by researching more boats and ships and unlock the higher tiers along the way just like in tanks or planes.

I have another question: How can you pull other player's boats from the beach using the cable? I assigned a button to it, but I still couldn't figure out how to attach the cable to another ship. Just hitting the hotkey didn't do anything.

You need both vessels to have this option enabled to connect a cable.

That is to prevent a destroyer to tow (by force) your poor patrol boat against your will

I dont think THIS^^ will work as intended...it is hard enough for ONE PLAYER to manage to attach a tow cable...having two to agree and understand what is going on is asking too much...

Much more effective would be to provide both players the chance to CUT THE CABLE if they so desire...so nobody is towed by force...

Not sure if you did this to tanks also...but would explain why i no longer can help teammates that overturn their tank...

I used to do it and from a few updates ago the cable seems to break everytime...so i no longer try...

Often the ship on beach or the tank overturned are from novice players or someone who is stressed by the situation...so they wont react well to cable operations...even worse if bullets are flying around...

When you press the cable key, that sends a request to all nearby teammate (flashing Icon) asking for help.

Then they just need to come close and attach their cable to the requestor.

There is nothing complicated about it.

if you provide the option to cut the cable instead, nothing prevent one or more player to keep dirupting your gameplay by spamming the rope command, and you have then to spam the cut the rope command. Not very enjoyable.

Quick newb question...

Playing my first few battles in Panzers, and researched the IIIe.  I now have the 35(t) and IIIb as well.  How does the respawn work?  Are you only able to respawn in vehicles with a range of battle ratings...or those equal to or lower than your initial tank?

For crews...can you train them up on lower battle rating tanks and then transfer them?  And do researched items transfer up to vehicles that can use them (thinking ammo here, since it seems that several early tanks have the same armament)?

Thanks!

<S!> ~War~

*edit* ah, I see respawn choices at the top for returning to battle in a particular tank....

You can take your tanks into a lineup, and you're able to spawn them in, no matter the BR. In RB, you need enough spawn points to spawn other tanks in.

You can train a screw in a low tier tank, and then you can put a high tier or different tank into that crew slot and the points will all be there.

When you research modules for your vehicle, you can use that ammo for that specific vehicle. You can't use it for other vehicles, unless you use that other vehicle and also research the upgradable ammo.

Hope I helped!

Quick question....

How are the players assigned to the battles as far as vehicle and experience?  I'm in no hurry to advance up to higher battle rated vehicles...but will one see veterans with maxed out crew and equipment clubbing us baby seals?

Thanks!

Yes, this is a possibility. There is no experienced match ups, e.g. you wont face ONLY new players, you will face a mix of new players and veterans, and if those veterans choose to play with low tier vehicles, they most likely do have good crews and know how to seal club etc. But don't let that put you off, try not to look at the other player's stats so you wont know if they're a veteran.

Best tip you will ever get...

DONT research/buy any vehicle of BR3 or more...

Until you do you are matched with similar players and AI bots...

Once ready for it is worth it...BUT if you are still too green, it can be "traumatic"...

Look into it...or ask...but once you go into it there is no way back...
