The Quick "Question and Answer/Advice" Thread

I've got a question about rank VI Italian vehicles and night vision. Currently on the Wiki the Centauro ROMOR 9.3, Ariete (P) 9.7, and the Otomatic 9.7 are all listed as having Infrared NV for both Commander and Driver. All of these vehicles have Thermal sights available as a modification. Tier 1 for the Centauro ROMOR ad Tier 3 for the Otomatic and Ariete(P).

I have recently started using these vehicles but I can't seem to get the Infrared to activate. Worse yet I've unlocked thermal sights for the Centauro ROMOR's gunner but those do not work either. Is the wiki incorrect or is this a bug. The Centauro ROMOR's thermal gunsight not working makes me think the latter.

I've unlocked the night vision modification for all the vehicles I previously mentioned and they do work. There is a bug that allows both the Centauro ROMOR and the Otomatic to use IR from the start of a batte as long as the player does not change from 3rd person camera.

I haven't unlocked these vehicles yet (not even speaking of the modifications), so can you please report this exploitable bug here:

https://forum.warthunder.com/index.php?/forum/592-general-gameplay-and-balance-issues/

(please also follow the guidelines for creating a proper bug report there)

I'd greatly appreciate your help in this matter! :salute:

Just a question that hit my mind over several weeks, can someone please explain me how the colour marker in tank arcade work?

Does the it means that when it was green, does it really mean 100% chance of penetration? when it was yellow, does it mean it's about 50% chance of penetration? when it's red, does it mean that i have 0% chance of penetration?

so, when i shoot an enemy and then the indicator is yellow (or green or even red), will there be RNG or randomness involved in the calculation?

thanks in advance, and sorry if i bother you

To answer your question directly: Grey means a greater than 50% chance to ricochet or aiming at non-vital components (tracks and wheels in most cases), Red means 0% chance to penetrate, Yellow means there is anywhere between 1-99% chance* to penetrate, and Green does mean 100% chance to penetrate IF your shell lands where the penetration indicator is pointed.

The Penetration indicator can help you discern the best place to punch the enemy tank, but one major thing to keep in mind about it is that your shots can spread or deviate from your center of fire, especially at a distance.  So there can be cases where you point directly at a small weakspot that lights up as green, but the shell flies to the right of the weakspot into thicker armor, therefore resulting in a non-penetration.

*The penetration of a shell can also vary about ~10% every time it's fired, so RNG can be involved if the armor is just as thick as the shell's penetration capabilities to challenge the shell.

The same penetration indicator can be found in the Protection Analysis of a tank, which usually gives more infomation about how a certain shell will interact with a tank's armor and is a very useful tool to study with if you have not discovered it yet.

M830A1 and DM12A1 are same=??? Proximity fuse?

The DM12A1 is the equivalent (same) of the M830.

The M830A1 as the name suggests is a modified M830 with proximity fuse but less explosive power and penetration.

When I go to helicopter it shows me if I buy it there above it is research tree for 3 tanks and 3 planes, What does that mean? Will I be able to get high rank vehicles if I buy helicopter?

That's just there to represent the fact that you need either to own a Rank V Tank or Plane before you can buy the reserve Helicopter.

For the last week I have been getting this message every time I start up my game.
I have been turning off antivirus and putting everything into Game Mode.
In doing so I did get some strange noises in game for a while.
I even went to the point of un-installing the game and re-installing it through Steam in the hope it will go away.
All to no avail.

Can anyone please advise me on what could or might be causing this?
Ive had the game since it came out and never once had a problem with it.

I'm having huge problems against the Stuh 42 G. I recently started playing War Thunder and im very proud of my first complete deck (AB 2.7 BR).
Against many tanks I might die, then look them up in the hangar and learn a better strategy.
But one tank that I'm consistently having problems against is the Stuh 42 G. I can't penetrate it frontally with anything but the ZIS 30 and even then only when its not hull down, angling its armor even more. If I'm in a tank I seem to have no chance at all, not even with APCR. Flanking is also very difficult, because of the AB spotting. And while I cant deal any damage, it surely doesn't hold back on its part, basically oneshotting any of my vehicles.
Currently I am of the opinion that it is horribly overpowered at 3.0 BR, but maybe I'm just not seeing something obvious.

I have a weird situation in the German research tree. I can research JPz 4-5, but the preceding vehicle is not available as it's predecessor is not researched. The unusual thing here is that the leKPz M41 is blocked still, so game allows me to research JPz 4-5. Will I be able to buy it after researching?

I have a question about Ammo racks, I'll use the T-34 as an example because it's simple.

If I have 89 or less rounds only the last rack is used, my question is whether or not partial depletion of the rack is modeled? Would having half the rack empty decrease the chance of it getting hit or exploding?

I do not have the Swedish beta access, but can still research modules on the reserve vehicles for them. When the full branch is unlocked in a few days, will I have the experience I've earned to put towards researching new vehicles, or am I going to have to start from 0 even after having played a few battles?

How were you able to research the M48A2 G A2 without buying 5 vehicles of rank V first?

I have never been able to research a vehicle of higher rank before unlocking the required vehicles of the previous rank.

The ammo rack isn't modeled as a whole, individual shells are modeled individually. All the shells together fill up the ammo rack. If a shot goes through your ammo rack, but doesn't hit any shells in that rack, then your ammo won't explode.

Don't carry a full load into battle, if you're in a tank like the Pz4 or the T-34 then taking 25-30 rounds of AP should be enough. It'll be better if you experiment yourself, check how many rounds you require each battle, if you use only 20 shells per round then there is no need to carry 50 shells inside your tank. Always try to keep as little ammo as possible, this will greatly reduce the chances of your ammo detonating.

Use the X-ray tool in the garage, with that you can easily see where the ammo is stored. You can also press the "O" key in battle or while in a test drive to see where the ammo is stored depending on how much ammo you carry. For example, the first 22 rounds in the Tiger II are stored in it's turret, so if your Tiger II has only 22 rounds of ammo, then even if your hull gets penetrated multiple times, your ammo won't explode.

Well, you can't sell them.

You can't do anything with them. All you can do now is buy the Obj. 279 if you want and put the skin on it.
