new player protection please...this should not be possible

Badballie 1 and Anown, I have heard this about new players being placed in queues that only have reserve planes and/or having the one shot kill ability...I have never heard from a new player that this was available...What I usually see in the forum are the people who were on the receiving end of a game like shanina described and they did not enjoy it...Might be interesting if someone created a new account and tracked what happened flying reserves...I do not believe gaijin has made any effort to cut the Aces a break...I do not believe gaijin will make any effort either...

There is a beginner queue for new players. It allows 1.0-1.3.  However it ends very quickly. One reason is that they very quickly are gifted a premium plane which is outside the limits - the Zukovsky I-153 for Russians, CR-42 for Germans and P36 for US. (Edit the US and German premiums are 1.3 so maybe still in the sandbox the 153 is 2.0). Once they have left the sandbox they can never get back I believe.

Another reason they don't get to play in the sandbox is that they start playing the game with a friend who has played longer and is not allowed in the sandbox. Therefore the new players are immediately pulled out to standard Tier1+ lower Tier2.

You can easily test the functionality of the sandbox by creating a new account. ;)

I was well over 200 missions before the "sandbox" closed on my new account (last week) - I flew 1.0 - 1.7 (full lineup of 1.7's) and was still in the beginner matches (8v8 with 54+ ground targets on small basic map)

I flew in a squad and went up to 2.3 a few times and was always able to go back down and get the "sandbox" matches. Midway through level 10 that ended.

Maybe some of your later matches just looked like 'sandbox' matches. Maybe you were just lucky with the matchmaker. Maybe it works like you say and you can go up and down up to level 10.  I don't have the patience to create new email addresses and new accounts to research it.  But there is definitely a sandbox and there is dedinitely a point of no return. Experience seems to differ regarding the exact rules, and as usual no Devs are rushing to state them clearly.

AB - Low level games - their names are in brackets (just like in ground forces). They fill in the team - usually human names so they look like [Seth] - these are in the "protected" matches. If you create a new account and fly at low-population hours you'll see them.

I've seen a few bots in Teir 5 jet/prop plane matches because they are so few players in a mission. The bots are totally harmless though. While our team was flying Migs, Meteors, and Sabres, our little bot was refueling his P-51 on our airfield. Funny thing was that the bot was our last player alive. Loooool!

@Ruk

You're talking about RB games? because I never seen bots in AB.

I can't confirm it either, other than the Dev's and mods have said they are, in the forums. I can't remember that far back, and am taking their word for it.

Observe Mighty Tetsuo in both RB and AB...

RB Tetsuo has very special powers and abilities and did not like being shot at...

AB Tetsuo was usually flying in a 300+ mph bi plane, but not this time...

i'm a new player and it does suck playing against jets or even someone with a tier 1 plane they should give us a place where its a matter of how old your account is not what you fly. say 3 mouths less is one place then a year to the three month point, after that if you are no good thats on you. ive been flying for about a month maybe and ive gotten better but i've wanted to quit because you hit someone 100 times and nothing then you get hit once and dead, its definitely discouraging but im not a quitter and im determined to kill me some high ranks, already acquired  a few rank doesn't matter badges looking to score some more. for others though im sure 100s have walked away because of the difficulty of playing level 100s. thats just the option of this new player. see ya in the skies and look out im coming for you ill be the one not flying well when i kill you.

I for one am against walling off 1.3

I am not the best player by a large margin, but am doing okay.  I have a bit of experience, and for the last month my average air KDR is about 7.

At the same time, I really like flying every now and then 1.3 -- 2.  I like the dynamics of the planes, I like the tempo of the combat -- a lot actually.  I under no circumstances want to be deprived of this opportunity.

If there's shielding to be made -- it's got to be XP based, not Tier based.

The way it works today is that new players can use 1-1.3 planes in a "sandbox" matchmaker with just new players. At some point they can no longer go there. It is unclear what triggers access to that sandbox but there may be a level threshhold somewhere between level 5 and level 10.  Level 100 can still play with 1-1.3 and sometimes they will only meet that level - mostly they will meet 1.0 - 2.3 (2.7 if you have a couple of 1.3s yourself).

At one time, this game was fun to play. Then, engines started to shut off, escalated engine overheat, loss of control, nerfed landing capabilities, and many other BS "Fixes" were announced and implemented. It is just a shame to see what was a great game go to waste. I know that the simulator and RB are a revolutionary aspect to this game. However, what the owners and developers fail to realize is that an "Arcade mode"  of any game by definition is all about silly fun. This means players should be able to fly and perform maneuvers, which cannot be pulled off in a real plane. You already have two interfaces that offer simulation. Let the players have some fun! Now there are plans to do some new "Nerf job" on play ability? It's like the original, desirable aspects of WT just keep slipping away. AND...let's not even get into the time wasters like boosters and betting. Let's keep removing the fun little by little, load down the servers with fluff, and make it harder for players to advance in their tiers. I just don't get the motivation. This can't be a good financial move to keep players, or recruit new ones.

Well then this is about as good as it gets -- what the hell is the OP's point?

Are you referring to RB-SB with this? If not.. The first one should be normal when your engine gets hit, in any gamemode. Engine overheating does not apply to AB, you can turn off instructor to ease the landing.

I know I have burned out a P-51 (3.7) engine in Air Dom without getting hit - it doesn't happen as quickly as in RB but it does happen.

Weird. I've often run out of fuel in air dom matches (mostly in Spitfires) but I've never burned out an engine. I usually just set my throttle to spam WEP the whole match and forget about it unless I have a good reason to throttle down. Edited by zwergziege

The problem is that this mechanism is "hidden".  It is not clearly stated that the sandbox is there and there is no indication about what qualifications cause you to leave it.  Once you leave it can you return to it?

We know it exists and we think it covers 1.0-1.3 and up to a certain level.

We don't know for sure what triggers you leaving. Is it flying a plane at 1.7 or 2.0? Is it owning a plane at a certain level? Is it reaching a certain level for your account for example level 6 or level 10?

If you start out flying with a friend who is already at a higher level, and many do when friends persuade them to try the game, then you will not get to use the sandbox. A way around this is to create a second account before flying with your new-to-the-game friend.

All new players receive a premium plane, for their chosen first nation, when they start playing. US get a P36, Ger. get a CR42, Ru. gets an I-153, UK a Gladiator they vary in BR P36 and CR42 are 1.3; Gladiator is 1.0; however I-153 is 2.0 and the moment a player of Ru. puts it in their lineup they leave the sandbox - but there is no information or warning about that.

The other thing is that many of us feel the sandbox should last longer, offering new pilots a longer grace period before throwing them in with the level 100 pilots who are legitimately having fun flying the low tier aircraft.

IMO there should be a choice at the top where you chose Arcade/Realistic/etc for "Starter" battles. That should allow people to fly 1.0-1.7 aircraft as long as they are pilot account level 15 or below.

It absolutely doesn't, I always play with WEP on all the time. Nothing ever happens. Unless you get hit ofcourse, what probably happened to you but didn't notice.

The harder you push it, the faster you go. ;)

I even set it to something else for awhile but psychologically it was messing me up still. Like I was going slower because I wasn't pressing it. My fingers on the other keys felt out of sequence without the W key "anchor".

Now I spend my time contemplating if I'm missing because of the other person's ping or if my convergence should be 800 or 600M.

GJ should really do something more to protect new players.

I mean ... it's about money eventually.

There's that AB sandbox for what ? 5 battles or so ? and then step into the big arena little guy.

I think players should be protected in some way for  50-100 battles in all 2x3 game modes.

I don't know what could be done (buffed DM ? restricted <level8 matches ? ...)  but I agree with the OP, something has to be done.

I love playing low tier air RB but I really shouldn't have to kill new players (sometimes I'm the only player in team above level 5 ...).

My personal experience was over 200 battles in the sandbox. It wasn't until middle of level 10 that I couldn't get the 8v8 new people matches.

I have NO clue what the protection is for RB I would imagine MUCH less because more new people would quit having to wait so long for the round to start. If you sign up for RB you should be ready to understand that realistically there are people in the world better than you...

I set WEP to the middle mouse button and to not have to hold for WEP...

Turned my convergence off...Interesting effects when you have a deflection shot on a bomber in say a P-47

This has been an interesting thread and answers a couple of questions for me.  I am a new player and an older guy.  I have been playing games since "Pong", mostly FPS combat games.  I downloaded WT because I am a pilot and really liked the graphics and beginning game play.  As mentioned previously, my success was pretty good and then all of a sudden (still playing with reserves and one "free" Buffalo) I could not buy a kill.  Lots of hits and sparkles, but out of the blue I would be covered in what looked like cannon fire and I would lose a wing.  I do mostly B&Z as I too like Long5hots videos and feel with the p26 that is about all you have.  I log on every night, but sometimes just don't feel like losing 3 planes in a row.  I was contemplating a new computer to see if that helped, but somehow I can't justify one under the current conditions.  I must add that I do not have a premium account, am not going to get one or spend any money on this game.  Still I feel the competition should be a letter closer.

Thanks
