Ping & Packet Loss Troubleshooting Guide

So, I ran all those commands in the command line and will post the results. As I am NOT a professional at internet things, please explain these results to me...I do not play tanks in Arcade mode, so the problem so far lies within the Realistic mode for tanks. Thank you in advance for any info you can give me....

So according to the pathping there is already a 2-3% packet loss from PC "Sarah-PC" to the router.

This could be

- wrongly set up network-chip drivers, which I guess you haven't messed with

- a damaged LAN cable

- a bad Wireless LAN/WiFi connection

Here some "first aid" troubleshooting:

Uninstall network drivers and install newest ones: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/21642/Ethernet-Intel-Network-Adapter-Driver-for-Windows-8-?product=32261

If you use a LAN cable buy a new one, cheap ones are around ~5-10€.

If you use Wireless LAN/WiFi move the router into the same room as PC so you have no walls in between.

If you live in a densely popualted area with many Wireless LAN/WiFi networks by neighbours very close the routers interfere with each other, go into the routers menu into the WiFi options and see if your routers allows to scan and display all available networks then choose the one Wireless Channel with the least amount of networks using it.

Do a factory reset on your router make sure youre able to set it up correctly again after reset: ISP login credentials and maybe ISP specific options in your router have to be correct

Actually, I get F'ing terrible connection to all Warthunder servers from SK.
Used to play great on the U.S server, now I'm getting anything between 5-50% pack loss most of the time.
Which makes it unplayable.

U.S server 230 ping - 5-50% PL

Ru server is worse 290 ping - 20-50% PL

SA server is high ping (+300) with about 10% PL
E.U is about 300 ping with 0-15 PL

Here is the thing, it was fine (U.S server) up into 3-4 months ago, then suddenly high PL most of the time, I can only play at lunchtime Korea time as it gives the best stable connection.

Contacted my ISP they said it's beyond their help and is an outside issue.

Any help would be marvellous

Same here. South Korea, used to live in the US where I played just fine, but these past few months I have been getting terrible ping and PL, same numbers you mentioned. 100Mbps down and up connection.

Yeah right, makes me think if they have changed server located in the U.S. What provider are you on in Korea? I'm on LGU+ but like you, I get 100 up/down at all times here in Korea.

Hi. I have a problem with ping and i don't know how to find it. Comparing the two connections, mine and my friend's, my friend ping is 15-20ms lower than mine in every game. I have to notice that both connections have the same isp, both of them are fastpath connections and the only difference is that my friend's house is 150 meters away from me. Also, both PC's are running Windows 7. Below, I attach  screenshots referring to each connection

Ok that's very interesting

I see a possible reason for this.

The tracert command uses the ICMP (Internet control message protocol) while the game data is transfered via UDP (User Datagram Protocol) & TCP (Transmission Control Protocol).

Which is a very simple protocoll sending very few very small packages that basically just ask "Hey I started my journey over there at 9:00 o'clock what time is it here how long did it take me to get here?"

While UDP/TCP for game are much bigger in number since you have an ongoing data stream  and their content is more complex.

So a different router/modem, LAN-Chip (and its configuration) on your Mainboard or CPU can make a difference on how fast these packages get unpacked and their data processed/game data processed packed and sent to the server again.

@Baghead1 I don't see any drasticly wrong with your connection.

You are using WiFi tho.

WiFi is prone to latency spikes.

The connection quality highly depends on:

- distance from laptop to router

- thickness and material of walls between laptop and router

- number of other WiFi networks on the same channel

- total load of WiFi channel (yours plus other WiFi networks on the same channel)

- number and load of WiFi channels adjacent to your channel (rule of thumb +-3 channels also have influence on the channel you're on)

since your laptop is probably not at the same spot all the time and WiFi channels have different load depending on how many people around you are also using WiFi at the moment

the ping can vary a lot

For best connection quality plug your laptop into your router with a LAN cable

In the last 2 weeks I have played with normal ping but PL ranging from 0% up to 50%.

Not just me, but a few other people have faced this problem here in South America.

My Ping has always been 130 ~ 160 for US server and 230 ~ 280 for European server.

But I'm only playing with the American and always with PL reaching 30%.

Follow the information to see what happens.

The starting image is the European server. I'm not using it anymore.

Is there a way to change which server IP within the US that I'm connected to?
My latency has jumped to 189ms recently in game; tracing server IP 185.106.204.4 shows exactly 189ms.

nope... the servers you are getting connected to are getting assigned (dynamically) by the matching servers.

depending on the amount of available servers and server hosts you might get assigned to different servers on

each random battle.

Sorry, I'm not exactly well versed in this field, all of this information is relatively confusing to me.

Basically, I ran this test to the US (185.106.204.3) server. The following attached file shows the console's return.

I ran this test in the first place because the BMP-1's MCLOS (WASD/Hand aimed) Malyutka seems to function erratically when in game, compared to the testing grounds. By that, I mean that it seems to teleport randomly in a 5 metre radius and seems generally unresponsive to any input, so it is very often that as soon as I launch, it impacts into the ground unless I am aiming very high into the sky.

Anyways, here's the return info. If any experienced person could evaluate it to me in layman's terms, it would be greatly appreciated.

After the most recent patch dropped I have been having major packet loss and ping issues - only with War Thunder.  I ran tests on all 4 US severs, the first two come back as unreachable and the last two seem fine.  How to I change the game to target one of the last two servers instead of the first two which seem to be offline?

Hi, can someone show me how to connect to a specific server. I'm in Perth, western Australia. My ping is around the 400 mark regardless whether I use NordVPN or not.

I have read some posts about the request for Australian servers. Has this happened? Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

you cannot really connect to one specific server but a server cluster (like US, EU etc). this can be done by ticking the respective

tickbox at the bottom of the battle selection window (just underneath the 'to battle' button in the hangar) and while the SA servers

should give you the best ping (in theory ^^) afaik most australian players play on the US server (due to low population on the SA

Servers and thus oten there are quite high waiting times).

I've been having the exact same problem since last friday. My ping usually stays at ~110 and my PL is always at 0%. But now it's at +270 ping and +60% PL.

I also checked with my ISP and it's all fine on their end.

I just did the tests shown here with one of the US servers (185.106.204.3) and it's completely unreachable. However, 207.244.116.4 looks normal.
