British shot mk8 non-functioning.

 Share

So over the last few weeks i've been playing a lot of British ground forces in realistic, and i've found that the shot mk8's in all T3 tanks do not detonate, at all. They enter the target and either A: pass right through or B: disapear.

I would like to add i've shot at and penetrated tanks are point blank and at very long range, i have as of yet NEVER seen the Shot mk8 "detonate".

Shot mk8 - APCBC - Armour peircing caped balistic caped shell. Exactly the same as the panther (as far as called APCBC).
From what i have seen and witnessed the shot mk8 is a solid slug round with no balistic cap.

Now is this an error in the name script (miss-named) or is it a bug were the shell never detonates?

The British rounds are for the most part all solid AP shells without any HE filler, which explains why they don't detonate once they penetrate a tank's armor. If you hover over the stat card of any British AP round, you'll see for yourself that they don't have any HE filler and Fuse types listed, unlike other nations. That's because they don't have any.

Both the Mk 8 shot and PzGr 39/42 (Panther APCBC) are the same AP type, that's correct, but again, the main difference is that the Panther's round has HE filler in it,thus doing much more post penetration damage as the shell explodes within the tank.

Last time I checked, solid iron is not quite volatile enough to cause any sort of detonation.

What CokeSpray said. Britain didn't use HE filled APCBC or any AP round for that matter. The only real shell that had HE was HESH and that wasn't until later.

You can tell the difference here:

That is the Mk.8 shot on the British Black Prince.

That is BR-367 on the T-44. You can see what shells are loaded with HE by the color of the explosion effect on the picture layered behind the shell itself. On the Solid shot it's just grey, and on the HE filled APCBC it's orange. There is also a stat on the shell that says explosive type, mass, TNT equivalent, fuse delay and fuse sensitivity.
