If I'm right, it should be just about 13 gb, even on steam.

The game might still be in your "downloads" folder inside your steam directory, taking up extra space. (Although I highly doubt it)

You can check this by going to your steam directory (located by default in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam or C:\Program Files\Steam if on a 32bit OS, and going to SteamApps>>downloading. If you see "236390" in there, that means that War Thunder still has files in there. Check the size, and delete them if they're big enough to equal 23gb.

Also, you can check how big your War Thunder game directory is by going to (by default) C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\War Thunder, right clicking and clicking on properties. Then, it will show you how big your game is. If it's indeed 23gb...then it either installed it twice (for some reason) or you had files in there already (user skins, user missions, ect.) If this is the case, you might want to completely remove the game from your PC, and reinstall.

I just did a clean install from steam on OS X 10.11.5 and the game is consuming me 26 Gb!!!

I am not sure but it seems that steam installed 13 Gb and then, perhaps when I selected the "Full Client" checkbox, he downloaded more content.

Looking at the folder structure, there is a WarThunder\ folder and inside a WarThunderLauncher.app with 13 Gb and several folders (content, res, levels, etc.) adding up to 13 Gb.

Inside the WarThunderLauncher.app package there is again another WarThunder.app package with 13 Gb and inside again Resources\content, Resources\levels, etc..

So it seems to me this installer is pretty messed up.

Just not sure now, which ones to delete ...

The folder size for my War Thunder folder to be almost 30G, I took a look at Steam and it says it takes up about 13GB. about 10GB is just from the .preload folder, been playing this game for years and i fell like the Launcher or the game itself just left some files sitting around and that its about time to do a full reinstall even though it isnt really a problem.

I will post back if i get any problems

You can delete the preload folder content  and uncheck it as not needed now , also obsolete folder content can be deleted , also any replay files you don't want delete them , log files and game files

Steam\steamapps\common\warthunder\game_log      same place for .obsolete and launcher_log folders   delete content of these

I ran into a problem, theres a "file not found" error on one of my replay files. I remember way back i copied and deleted this file (or did something), i no longer have the copy because the war thunder replay system made it out of date. The bigger problem is now i have an empty War Thunder folder with only one file i cant delete. any help?

its an "Item not Found" error, it asks me to verify the files location and try again.

the file type is just "File" so i think i might have screwed something up wayy back when i tried to copy it.

Edit:

Solved the problem with the miracle of .... youtube!

Instead of typing rmdir i typed in del at 1:19 to delete a file. thanks to a helpful commentor

Thanks for the help lol!

I tried to google search it but i typed in "file not found error" and it gave me search results relating to the 404 error you get while web browsing.

Upon closer inspection i typed in the correct title of the error "Item not found"

Steam Download is in progress! yess
