Hello dear forum members,

Today I will make a suggestion about a SPAA, Sd.Kfz. 7/1. A potential Tier II-III 3.7 BR SPAA for German SPAA line. It may have been suggested before but I will give more details about this.

The Sd.Kfz. 7/1 was a standard Sd.Kfz. 7 half-track mounted with a special superstructure to allow installation of a fully traversible 20mm Flakvierling 38. The Flakvierling mounted four 20mm Flak 38 guns and had maximum rate of fire of 1800 rounds per minute. Though intended for anti-aircraft use, it was also effective against ground targets. The vehicle was designated as "2cm Flakvierling 38 auf Selbstfahrlafette (Sd.Kfz. 7/1)". The guns were fitted with "Flakvisier 38" and later with "Flakvisier 40" gun sights and could be traversed 360 degrees by hand. They could be elevated from -10 to +100 degrees. The crew was composed of ten men. The gun commander, eight gunners and a driver. The vehicle carried 600 rounds of 20mm ammunition. An additional 1,800 rounds were towed in a special single-axle trailer, the "Sonder Anhaenger 56". Some vehicles were fitted with small gun shields, while others had larger gun shields.

The first 100 vehicles were produced from April 1940 to mid-1941 and continued at a rate of ten per month until August 1942, when the monthly rate was significantly increased. Some 750 to 800 vehicles were produced by October/December 1944. From 1942, the majority of vehicles was fitted with lightly armored driver’s cabs and plate protecting the engine compartment. The armor was 8mm thick. They were issued to Flak units of the Luftwaffe and Panzer units of the Army. There were 319 Sd.Kfz. 7/1 in service with the German Army as of March 1st 1945. Sd.Kfz. 7/1 units were used to protect armored units against low flying aircraft but were also often used against ground targets.

Technical Data:

  • Combat Weight--> 11,500kg
  • Overall Length--> 6800mm
  • Overall Width--> 2500mm
  • Overall Height--> 3300mm
  • Ground Clearance--> 400mm
  • Armour--> 3mm thick body + 8mm thick driver cab and engine cover plate

  • Power Output--> 140bhp at 2600rpm
  • Transmission--> 4+R

Gib both armoured and non armoured just to spread it a bit~
as for BR I don't really mind where it goes since the primary job is shooting down planes

Do you have info for the traverse speed?

I believe that since it was traversed by hand or manually in other words, it should have had a similar traverse speed to Flakpanzer38(t) Gepard's or Wirbelwind's turret traverse speed. But will search for that in any case.

I can't see why it should be on BR 3.7 like the Wirbelwind. Even the armored Version should be 3.3.

3.3 would be too less BR for this vehicle, both armoured and non-armoured. Think about 94KM GAZ which is at 3.3 currently. It has little to no armour and can easily get destroyed by MG's from both air and ground, no matter what the caliber is. Sonderkraftfahrzeug 7 has armour already, 3mm thick on engine compartments while GAZ has either has no armour or 2mm maximum.. Not to mention we are talking about 2cm Flakvierling 38, totally superior to 2,5cm 72-K in every aspect. Be it anti-aircraft effectiveness, anti-ground, ROF and traverse speed. Thus, my vote is on 3.7 BR setting for this vehicle. Both non-armoured and armoured. Who knows? Maybe even Wirbelwind can be shifted to 4.0 or 4.3 when this gets implemented.

It's not needed... That i hate german spaags most because of stupid APCRs.

I admit I hate them too, but this is a fair one. This would most likely affect Wirbelwind's BR mostly and is already in AI AAA models. Also, if you can not deal with HVAP-T, only thing I can give you as an advice would be trying to be more aware of your surroundings and sounds vehicles made. Over 500m+ they become pretty useless against armour and you can easily hunt them.

You'll need one shot to kill them anyways. Y know, no armor.

Yeah sure... Keep the distance, sure........... There isnt anything more stupid than low tier spaag with APCR/APDS.

I'd like them both. Perhaps having the unarmored one at 3.0 besides the 37mm Sdkfz as alternative with higher ROF but less punch per round, and the armored one at 3.3 or 3.7(if the Wirbel gets uptiered to 4.0).

My point in making this suggestion was due to Wirbelwind sitting at 3.7 actually. In my opinion, still giving this vehicle 3.7 is the best option, both armoured and non-armoured one because of 2cm Flakvierling 38. 3.3 BR would make it downtiered and there will be many complaints about it, but if we make this 3.7 there will be less complaints because it is a truck with quad 2cm on its back and will be a fair counter-part for 94KM GAZ but more superior. This will eventually lead Wirbelwind to 4.0 or 4.3 BR shifting sometime in the future

We are talking about Tier II/L Tier III/E. SPAA's lose their effectiveness at longer distances at that point, ranging from 3.3 to 4.7. If you have problems with them, I can't help you much. But also, please try to stay on topic. I would like to not see gameplay issues in this section, thank you.

It's not always one shot, even you mentioned the reason. No armour. Trucks should be sprayed with MG's precisely while larger caliber ones should be shot with tank gun.

THIS IS GAMEPLAY ISSUE when SPAAG is more effective at killing tanks than planes.

Then please keep that issue away from this topic. "Ground Forces Discussion" section is made for those kind of issues, please go discuss there if going to.

Y do people keep forgetting that nearly every cannon in the game has some sort of HE shell?

A truck like that just won't survive more than a couple hits.

You know, I would rather save my shot for an unexpected enemy tank encounter that might be camping rather than loading HE  and shooting SPAA trucks while I can use MG to do the job.
