Proper way to remove NetAgent (gjagent.exe) after removing all of your games?

Hello, I'm digitalblade

last time I installed WarThunder I did it through Steam. Back then there was no gjagent.exe program that you game required. That program was pushed to me throw your updates. I removed your game. Now explain to me how to remove also your gjagent.exe that you auto-installed on my PC?

gjagent.exe is a program found at my C:\Users\(username)\AppData\Local\Gaijin\Program Files (x86)\NetAgent

So you call it NetAgent, but you see when you created the installation process of this program, it seems you forgot to create the uninstalation process of it. So now I can only brutally delete the entire Directory This is not the normal way to uninstall things. But please care to explain:

HOW DO WE PROPERLY UNINSTALL NetAgent (gjagent.exe) from our systems?(Provided we have no more games from you and don't need that at all ever.)

The program is not located in Widows "Programs and Features" in the control option. And it is configured to auto launch at computer start. I am sinserly sorry but this sort of software should be only embarrassing for you to offer your clients. I uninstalled WarThunder because of other reasons(extreemly slow peer-to-peer updates, played the game loved it, hate it). You need to be able to explain me how to uninstall this separate NetAgent software. It clearly does not uninstall it's self when you remove your games and it does not have an official uninstaller in Windows Control panel so please help me get rid of your software. This software also states that by default it checks every 30 minutes to see if a game I uninstalled is up-to-date, it clearly has no reason to exist on my system and I do not need it.

Everyone that wants to spam hate massages from the fans is free to wast their time. I need answers from the stuff and more serious members here.

well... you already found the location the Gaijin agent is installed in - so deleting that folder is the first step.

second step would be to remove it from the autostart so you wont receive an error message about it not

being found at startup ^^

on Win8/10 systems this can be done in the task manager by locating the Gaijin Net.agent in the startup

tab and disable it. on Win Vista/7 systems it can be removed by running the 'msconfig' tool an disable (or)

remove) it in the startup files.

or you may use autoruns (https://technet.microsoft.com/en-gb/sysinternals/bb963902.aspx) on any Windows

system to remove it. (ofc you can also use the regedit command to directly edit the windows registry files)

Thank you for your suggestion, I forgot to mention that I very well do know who to remove junk software manually. My question is more accurately "why is there no uninstaller for this software" and "why does it remain installed even after you uninstalled the entire warthunder game, after witch it serves no purpose for anyone and most people will ask the same question.

I do not believe that the same developers that manage to create an uninstalling process for the entire game were unable to do so for this little software. So what is the reasoning behind not making it? Why is it considered for them a good idea for their clients to have this installed, even if they don't have their game installed anymore.

Before we continue to chat about nonsense I have to remind you that the only purpose for this little software was to upload game installation files to other users for warthunder and improve the entire problem that the game is updating really slow. With the use of our own bandwith ofcourse. So it's not like its unknown secret what the software does. But the mere fact that normal users are stripped from uninstallation choice is insulting both to users for trusting WarThunder and it's developers. So I seek some answers.

there is no uninstaller because there has also never been an installer ^o^

(ok, jokes aside... while this actually is the technical reason about why there isn't an uninstaller or an entry in the software list of windows this ofc isn't the reason you've

been asking for - i'm well aware of this)

now, there ofc is an uninstaller for War Thunder itself but i doubt that this will actually also uninstall the Gaijin agent (at least not on 'old' installs that have been done prior

to the agent being implemented - maybe with the current installer it's different (but i doubt this as well tbh 8D)) - so yea, atm the only way to get rid of this is to manually

remove it as it seems (haven't tested the uninstall yet... and i guess due to my various installs and tests with WT the uninstall option wouldn't work for me anyway ^^).

however the gaijin agent is not directly a part of War Thunder (only) but rather an update plattform for gaijin games - like my.com, Uplay or even Steam - at least War

Thunder, Crossout and Star Conflict can be checked for available updates with the agent (and most likely Enlisted as well once it gets opened to the puclic i guess).

this being said it wouldn't make sense uninstalling it if any of those games is getting uninstalled (unless it's the only or last one left ofc 8D).

so in short: the reason for the agent being installed is to have a plattform to keep not only WT but also other Gaijin games up-to-date.

this is actually a (common) misconception. the agent itself isn't up- or downloading any (game) data - the network traffic caused by the agent is pretty much neglectable.

however the traffic caused by the launcher(s) getting started by the agent may not of cause. especially considering that the upload and download speeds are by default

not limited, as well as the fact that the 'seeding after download has finished' option is switched on by default as well, there may be quite some network traffic going on

when the launcher is running.

according to Gaijin the reason for the agent having been introduced however was not to increase the download speeds (most players dont really have an issue with this

anyway) but the fact that there are quite a few patches coming out every month (or week even) and many players have been complaining about not being able to just

quickly jump into the game whenever they got the time but often enough they first had to update their game (and as we know some patches are quite large). so to make

it more easy for those players to keep their game up-to-date at all times the agent has been released.

anyway... here is my personal opinion about the gaijin agent:

1. do i use it ? no...

mainly because usually when i'm on the PC i'm playing online games and if there is one thing i dont need it's some launcher running in the background wasting my

bandwidht ^^ (wouldn't mind if i'd just get a notification from the agent that there actually is a patch available though - bear in mind i dont mind the agent itself since

it's not hampering me per se but since it's automatically starting the launcher when there IS an update availabe i dont want it running on my system. btw this is why

i also switched off the automatic updates in Steam and usually i even exit Steam and Uplay (etc) anyway when i dont 'need' them)

2. was the way it got implemented good ? no...

it should have been announced before it got released. it should have been explained (not only why it gets implemented but also how it works) and yes, it should have

been optional (asking the user if he/she wants it at all or not) or at least disabled by default.

and yes...

3. there should be an easy / convenient way to uninstall it (and i got pretty much no doubt that there will be an uninstall option in the future ^^)

so... you see while i am 'defending' Gaijin and the agent i'm not a fan of the agent and also i'm criticising Gaijin for the way they got introduced / released it.

the idea was good but the realization was... well... not so good ^o^

Let me get this right!

I just installed a game which also installs a gaming platform (to keep game updated) like my.com and a few other companies do but doesn't warn you and does not offer an easy way to remove it via control panel and the uninstall program option?

That's just plain unacceptable.

Gaijin needs to offer a way to completely remove this without us needing to go through ad naseam files and manually deleting them, at the very least they NEED to make a sticky about removing this and tell us where all this junk is installed so we can completely remove all trace of this from our computers.

Don't get me wrong I am not a tin foil hat kind of guy and don't think there's anything nefarious going on but it's just plain good business and common sense and a nod towards competence to provide this just as ALL other similar type of agents provide.

I have a a 260gb usage cap for the household, and this agent keeps popping back up on both my son pc and mine even though I have disabled everything in the client options (the wrench) my son pc too, so you can understand I would like the option to have this turn off completely and not start up when I first boot my pc and turn off when I close the game without the need to manually go to turn it off or end the process tree in task manager.

EDIT: I also have noticed that even if I shut gaijin agent down in bottom right of task bar  I still have to open task manager and end the process tree of run.exe which is from the war thunder folder.

It's a darn shame my first post has to be about this after closing the game and finding this agent running the next day without my knowledge.

yes...

(kind of at least - it's not (yet) really a gaming platform but more of an 'enhanced updater' because it can only be used

to keep several games up-to-date but you cannot search for games or start downloading them from the agent (afaik))

i 100% agree

i've read about this but haven't experienced this myself =/ still it sounds as if there may be a glitch or a real bug somewhere

in the agent or the launcher... this is definitely not the way it should be (and isn't on most installs) - when the auto update is

unticked (and the agent got shut down in the system tray) the agent should be gone for good and that's the way it is for me

anyways.

i'd say you should report this on the bug report forums... especially if this is happening repeatedly / replicable

this appears to be another bug...

the run.exe actually is part of War Thunder (or rather the launcher) and not the Gaijin agent... even without the agent there

will be a run.exe (which is the updater for the launcher btw). it should only run a couple of seconds and start the launcher

update if there is one available.

this is something i personally experienced as well (though only once) and it actually led to War Thunder being shown as still

running on Steam while infact it wasn't. i'll have another look into this once i got the time but it seems as if the run.exe some-

times gets 'stuck' and isn't shutting down (for an unknow reason) - maybe the logs reveal something interesting on this issue

(they are located in the ..\War Thunder\.start_app_logs\ folder)

atm the run.exe isn't really needed (it can be renamed/moved/deleted without any impact on the game or the launcher - this

ofc may change at any time ^^) but will be reinstalled on any launcher update.

yet again - if this happens repeatedly you should report this on the bug report forums... atm one possible reason i can think

of may be the firewall blocking it.

Thanks for the input rellik.

If I read tween the lines I get the impression this a relatively new thing so hopefully they will improve how this works with some future updates.  I installed this game cause my 7 year old wanted to try his hand at a flight games and I play arcade battles with him and would hate to have to uninstall as he is enjoying it quite a bit!

He's using KB and mouse for the time being but he keeps eyeballing my t16000m.   lol

it will be solved... somehow ^o^

sometimes it takes some time but eventually pretty much every issue is getting resolved by Gaijin. this specific issue might be a tough one but

still i think it will be settled. and no matter what - even with all its flaws this game is one of (if not the) best of its kind.

stay on it, you wont regret it... however keep your son playing kb+mouse for some time since playing War Thunder with a joystick is a whole

different story but it will definitely be good schooling when it comes to disappointments in the beginning (but also lots of enjoyment and satis-

faction once he gets successful ^^) - just make sure he isn't just sitting in front of the PC but also going outside...

I love how they deleted my reply to this thread. Great job there Gaijin.

You wonder why your senseless rant was hidden? Strange ..

So whats keeping Gaijin from installing whatever they want without our consent, like this agent crapware?

  1. Your consent was the agreement as you did installed War Thunder (or any other Gaijin game) and therefore accepted the EULA, ToU and PP

For many, including myself, this flat out does not work.

When I untick 'auto updates' in the launcher, close and re-open the launcher, the setting has reverted and auto updates is ticked.

The net agent also reinstalls itself every time you launch the game.

This is flat out unacceptable, the program acts like a rootkit/malware.

If gaijin refuses to fix this, I will vote with my wallet and issue chargebacks for anything and everything I've bought in war thunder. That is the only way to get the message across it seems.

I can live without war thunder, can gaijin live without everyones money?

Just throwing my 2 cents in. I have been having this same problem for over a year and I feel the same way. This program I can't delete is worse than malware. Even though I have removed every trace of war thunder and gaijin from my pc that I can find, I STILL get multiple game notices popping up in the bottom of my screen. I've tried everything. I'm at the point now where I'm going to reinstall my OS and restart from scratch and stay the hell away from gaijin. No game in history has ever done this to me. I will never play another gaijin game again. I will avoid all things from russia forever.

ps, guess who won't be back to this forum? Me!
