I would like to introduce you the potential successor of the Humber AC in the British army. the Coventry Armored Car

the Coventry AC was meant to be an more advenced sucessor of the Daimler and the Humber armored car who was widely use in the British army. The Coventry AC was a combined effort between Daimler and the Rootes group to produce a standard armoured car design. The Coventry AC was an advanced design and featured a similar layout to the more compact Daimler, but with a more conventional suspension and drive system. It included duplicate driving controls to allow rapid disengagement in combat.

Coventry_Mk1_3.jpg

Deliveries of the Coventry Mk 1, from the Humber assembly line, began in June 1944 and 63 vehicles had been produced by the end of the year. It was decided, in 1943, that production of the Daimler would be continued instead of the Coventry armoured car replacing it. As a result, the order for the 2-pounder Coventry was reduced to 300 which would be sent to India. The 75 mm armed Mark II did not enter production. The first batch was apparently meant to be sent to India, but a few were deployed by the British Army in 1945, operating in Germany in the last days of the war. They saw very little or no action at all. Their deficiencies were well known and the type was quickly demobilized after only a few post-war years of service.

Secondly, can I get an option in the poll for it in the main tree?

it was never produced, it was a prototype, i think it have no place in the main tree.

Hasn't stopped vehicles before. You should at least have it as an option. Pigeonholing people into one position skews your poll, inevitably invalidating it.

Coventry armored car

Service history:

In 1942, there were already at least a dozen armored types in service with the British Army on all fronts. The Daimler and the Humber , in particular, were already massively produced. The General Staff had plans, just like for tanks, for a universal design that could fulfill all duties, simplify training, maintenance and lowering costs. A convergence of interests and technological sharings led to the Rootes Group and Daimler producing a crossover of their own designs. This design evolved into a mature 4×4 design ready for production in 1943. There were two main types envisioned, the standard reconnaissance type (Mark I) and the tank hunter/infantry support type (Mark II). The vehicle showed its limits soon after its introduction and production was curtailed to 220 vehicles out of a total order for 2600 shared by the two factories. The model was named after the Coventry plant in the Midlands, the only one to eventually manufacture the type.

The main armament of the Mark I comprised of the standard British 2-pounder (40 mm/1.57 in). In late 1943, the 2-pounder was less than desirable against German tanks but still adequate against most light vehicles. It was coupled with a coaxial BESA machine gun, fed with around 2,000 rounds. The turret, in this configuration, also accommodated the gunner, loader and commander. It had a 6 faced shape and was manually traversed. The turret also held the gunner and commander periscopes, a side projector, and two smoke dischargers which were mounted at the rear of the turret. The gun had a cast mantlet and was elevated manually this one done by the gunner using his shoulder, this was usual for 2-pdr mounts at that time.

The Mark II, however, also designated AFVW90, was given a much larger turret, which slightly resembled the one used on the AEC armoured car, armed with the QF 75 mm (2.95 in). due to the size of the gun  one less crew member could stay in the turret. Therefore, the gunner had to be assisted by the commander in loading the gun.

When the war ended it signaled the end for many in-development weapon systems and large purchase contracts. Then the Coventry fell into the latter category and managed limited service into the Cold War years, some sent to operate under British command in India. Other examples were sold off to the rebuilding French Army in the post-war decade and used in French colonial holdings thereafter. The French Army Coventry cars were pressed into action during the First Indochina War (1946-1954), setting the groundwork for the bloody Vietnam War (1955-1975) to follow.

Ah yes, It seems that did not make it to the Suggestions list. And therefore was missed. I will sort it out later.

Thank you for bringing this to my attention.:)

EDIT: The two topics have been merged. Sorry for any confusion.

Would definitely be nice to see. The Coventry Mk. I could be a tech tree machine while the Mk. II could be a premium/gift machine.

As for where they’d go the Mk. I could be 1.7 and the Mk. II around 2.7.

I think the coventry mk1 should be a premium. Fewish produced and I'm unsure about combat history.

the 75mm shouldnt come to game as just a prototype and we can add plenty of similar vehicles

They served with France to so perhaps a premium there to

Britain NEEDS armored cars, everyone does. It's not unreasonable to ask for an update that only adds armored cars, is it?

+1 either way, lol.
