Just a quick note. The information came from a French website so I've had to use Google translate so if anything sounds off or doesn't make sense please let me know and possible the correct information.

This is just a quick bit of info on the GMC CCKW 6x6 truck the suggestion information on the vehicle will be after this bit.

The GMC CCKW was 2½-ton 6x6 U.S. Army cargo truck that saw heavy service in both World War II and the Korean War. The original "Deuce and a Half", it formed the backbone of the famed Red Ball Express that kept Allied armies supplied as they pushed eastward after the Normandy invasion. The CCKW came in many variants, including open or closed cab, long wheel base (LWB 353) and short (SWB 352), and over a score of specialized models. It began to be phased out with the deployment of the 6×6 M35 in 1950, but remained in active U.S. service until the mid-1960s. It is related to the Chevrolet G506, built at the same factory.

In 1939-1940 the US Army Ordnance Corps was developing  2 1⁄2-ton (2,268 kg) load-rated 6×6 tactical trucks that could operate off-road in all weather. General Motors, already supplying modified commercial trucks to the Army, modified the 1939 ACKWX–built for the French Army–into the CCKW. The General Motors design was chosen by the Army and went into production at GM'S Yellow Truck and Coach division's Pontiac, Michigan plant alongside 6×4 CCWs. Later they were also manufactured at GM's St. Louis, Missouri Chevrolet plant.

The name CCKW comes from GMC model nomenclature:

"C", designed in 1941

"C", conventional cab

"K", all-wheel drive

"W", dual rear axles

By the end of production in 1945, 562,750 CCKWs in all variants had been built, a total second only to the “Jeep”.

Vehicle suggestions starts here:

The 22nd Colonial Air Force Force Group (DCA of the 2nd DB) was gradually equipped with GMC trucks. On 24 November 1943, the first GMC (CCWW 6x6 of 2.5 tonnes registered 415920) was equipped with a Piece of artillery of 40 mm Bofors (Mk1 or Mk2). It was at the firing range of Aïn Diab and then on the firing range of Mediouna that the first shots were made. After several expertises and inspections, it was decided on 12 January 1944 to transform 16 Bofors of the group into self-propelled guns.

According to the tactical letter, this GMC Bofors would be the reproduction of the GMC Lucifer of the Marshal of the Logis Merveille. This is the 3rd part of the 1st firing section (the latter gave the names of the hell to its vehicles) belonging to the 2nd shooting battery.

The specifications are for the vehicles without the Bofors as I couldn't find the modified ones. If you know any of the correct specs please let me know.

Specifications:

  • Weight: 4,000 kg (8,800 lb) empty, 7,400 kg lb (16,400) loaded
  • Length: 6.86 metres (270 1⁄8 in)
  • Width: 2.24 metres (88 in)
  • Height: 2.36 metres (93 in) to cab, 2.77 metres (109 1⁄8 in) overall
  • Engine: GMC 270 91 hp (68 kW)
  • Transmission: 5 spd. x 2 range trf. case
  • Suspension: Beam axles on leaf springs
  • Speed: 72 km/h (45 mph)

Armament:

  • 1x 40mm Bofors AA Autocannon

+1 Good idea.

Possibly rank III, and don't forget it's British cousin

Well cousins would be a better description, the number of different trucks with the 40mm Bofors used by the British and the rest of the Commonwealth is quite staggering.

I would love to see them all.

interesting. the Bofors 40mm already has the potential to be a good anti-tank AA gun, but it just needs a vehicle at a low enough BR. this looks like the vehicle. +1

Was this vehicle ever actually ordered or used by the Americans or British?  +1 to any trees that the answer is yes, otherwise no thanks.

This is a very fun vehicle in the French ground tree and seeing it again would be nice.

If they give it the full crew rather than half it would be even more fun.

the GMC CCKW 353 AA was only used by the french. it was a colonial units that had them and used it in the late part of WW2. they even shut down a few planes. after WW2 the units was sent to indochina and soon disband and the GMC CCKW 353 AA was not used anymore. but due to the guerilla war in the french indochina. the french had used other CCKW 353 with the 40mm bofors with armored plate all around. those was field mofdification and likely not the same as used in WW2. at least part of them was purely new gun truck.

i believe this suggestion could be considered implemented. mostly because it is in the french tree and the US never used it.

but they may had used other similar gun truck. there was some M15 MGMC who traded the useless 37mm for the 40mm L/60 who is not the best but is a much better improvment. only without the .50cal its not that much better.

if we add that one, i am sure no one will care about not having gun truck with a bofors for USA. they would had a much better armored halftrack instant

As the CCKW 353 with 40mm Bofors has been previously implemented for the sole nation that owned them,

Moved to Implemented Suggestions. :salute:
