FPS and Resolution Issues with Mac in 1.69

Okay, so with the new update, Mac should be getting increases in FPS, in no matter which resolution or graphics setting, because of this:

http://warthunder.com/en/news/4731-development-war-thunder-on-mac-supported-by-metal-en

Mac setup:

Sierra 10.12.14

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014)

Processor: 2.6 GHz Intel Core i5

Memory: 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

Graphics: Intel Iris 1536 MB

Today, I noticed something.

This is my view several months ago of the game. Good FPS, clear game, I'm happy with it.

Look at how vivid the HUD is, and how it isn't blurry. Look at the resolution. 1440p. Sounds right, my display is 2560 x 1600.

Now look at this video I recorded today: I did NOT change ANY settings, this came with the new update.

Significantly blurrier, look at the difference in the HUD. The FPS increased, yes, but look at how blurry it is.

Then I ran the game in 2560 x 1600 resolution, selecting from the Launcher, and did the same test.

The HUD is different, and more vivid, and the game looks better. However, FPS says 40-50, but if you look at the video, it is more like 20-30.

So can somebody please explain why Gaijin felt the need to change my resolution settings? Can't they just boost the FPS, like they said they were going to do, without changing my display?

Let me know if i can fix anything, or if there is a permanent change, thanks.

I don't know why but if I don't enable "Detailed foriage", fps drops in any graphic preset. This issue is known before Metal being supported.

Ultra Low

disable "Detailed foriage" --- 30-60 fps

enable  "Detailed foriage" --- 60 fps constantly (actually, fps get over more than 100-180)

MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013)

2.6 GHz Intel Core i7

16 GB 1600 MHz DDR

NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2048 MB

NOTICE : To enable "Detailed foriage" in Ultra Low, you need to disable "Old videocard support" once. After enabling "Detailed foriage", then enable "Old videocard support" too.

i also noticed that after the patch, if i don't turn VSYNC on my fps is horrible and gameplay is choppy , far terrain details seem to help a little with the micro freezes but it is still so irritating

I have the exact same computer and metal doesnt work for war thunder correctly. I have the same issues as you and until gaijin can fix the issues we must wait. I really hope they fix it and give us the good fps increase that they promised.

Thanks for trying to help, but i'm not sure if you realize just how Ultra Low my settings already are.

I have the same mac as you and I can run medium texture just fine. Hopefully gaijin fixes metal API and we get fps boost.

Looks like you haven't enabled "Detailed foriage". I can't see check mark on that.

Look carefully at mine.

you can also try my config.blk I attached.

MacBook pro mid 2012 (retina) same exact issue , total drop of FPS now raging from 3-4 to 18-20 while was about steady 40 before the update

The game lags , it's totally unplayable  , absolutely no improvement on fps but it is only getting worse. Blurred vision is now also a new problem , it also happen in the hangar.

On sunset , the map looks horrible now , I can see the transparent polygons close to every map feature , thus also reducing overall visibility.

Please guys , send a fix ASAP.

My Mac is a MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012)

Processor: 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5

RAM: 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 4000 1536 MB
OS: Sierra 10.12.5

and I am having problems with the game lagging a lot in both tanks and aircraft, freezing not only my game but also my whole computer to the point I have to reboot. The issues were far worse without metal though.  i even lowered my graphics to the bare minimum to no affect to the performance what can i do to fix this or am I not the only with this problem.  Also I only just started having this issue after the 1.69 update.

and don't ask for a benchmark cause it freezes on those too

All I can suggest is that it freezes (and I've had that a lot) put in a formal bug report. I've just started one and have put up a collection of files.

Be good to get this resolved because it's become near unplayable; and the more info we can provide the better.

I don't believe mac users will have a steady plataform/configuration to play WT from now on...

It's been a while since things are getting worse little by little on recent upgrades,

in 2014 I could play on "maximum" or even "movie" graphics mode, lately, actually more than

a month ago (last time I played) I could barely play on ultra-low...

gaijin clearly decided to abandon macOS X system...

Hello!
You mean game forces your resolution to 1280x800?
Please try to update your macOS to latest version.
Do you have fps issues on metal or on OpenGL too?
Did you try to run benchmarks and compare between Metal and OpenGL (e.g. Battle of Berlin and Tank Battle)?
If you still have the issue please make a report at Moderated Bug Reports section (you should provide detailed information, logs, system info file etc.).

  • 3 weeks later...
  • 2 years later...

I’m still getting this in 2019

The worst part is I’m running a 3.4-3.9 GHZ i5 with a Radeon pro 570 graphics card (4GB) and it won’t even Manage it on low graphics!

The info in this thread is no longer relevant since it's about the game as it was in patch .1.69 and there were significant changes over the years. Fyi: we are at 1.91 atm.
