Game Crashing on Mac

I have played this game for almost a year now, and have been extremely grateful I found it. My computer has been running this game near-flawlessly and have had little to no problems. Just today, when the 1.71 update came out, the game turned into a nightmare. My game will crash during every match and not give any error message. This happens randomly, i can either be standing in place on a hill or in an epic battle to the death with 3 enemies. I have put so much time and money into this game because I love it so much. You can imagine my frustration and disappointment when a game I love, I can no longer play. I dearly hope Giajin can fix this from happening, for I would love to get back to playing War Thunder again. If anyone has a solution or similar problem, please feel free to respond!

Hi,

I have a similar problem on my MAC since the latest game upgrade to 1.71.

In my case the game will not load. The loading bar gets about three quarters along before stopping with a message - "An error occured"

Any solution to get the game to load would be appreciated.

Thanks

I am another MAC user and its crashing a lot since 1.71 update.  There are usually teething problems with Macs and updates.  Lets hope this gets fixed rather quickly.

Have noticed my PING rate has increased from the usual 20, to 55.

Specs:

iMac 5K

Sierra 10.12.6

4 GHZ Intel Core i7

32 GB Ram

AMD Radeon R9 M295X 4096mb

Same problem here - crashing in middle of a battle; no error messages.  I've uninstalled it and am currently downloading the patch again; but I did just notice that my rendering was set to Auto now. I had it set on OpenGL previously due to issues with Metal. I'm switching it back to OpenGL and will test again once my download is complete.

iMac Retina 5K Late 2015

3.2Ghz Intel Core i5

16G 1867 DDR3

AmD Radeon R9 M380 2048MB

Update:

Finally got everything loaded again, and almost made it through an entire battle but it's still crashing. I just dumped some $$ in this yesterday, not going to be a happy camper if I can't use it. :(

Similar case here, the game keeps crashing and closing by itself, cannot play it at all.

Also, after restarting the game (not giving up ), these appeared.59c13c670379a_ScreenShot2017-09-19at23_359c13c5b9cab9_ScreenShot2017-09-19at23_3

I have a simular problem and i have tried using metal and OpenGL with little success, as it will run for a while then freeze using either. I am currently using High Sierra or 10.13. So to give advanced warning High Sierra may not be the solution when is available on the 25th of this month. I have been flying High Sierra since the spring or early summer and have had the hope that all of the freezes and crashes might cease but without any satisfaction. I also hope that a solution might be found and soon for the sake of everyone that is rather fond of the game.

@Bobscott_21Thanks for posting that you tried both Metal and OpenGL.  I was going to try that when I got home from work later on today.  This saves me the trouble.  I am sure this will be addressed in time.  Like I said in my earlier post, seems that there is always some issue with Mac's during major updates.  Everything eventually gets fixed.

Weird.  Signed in again just now and got a several notifications that 1.71 had been released, but nothing extra was downloaded (didn't think there should be as I had downloaded everything last night). But, thew problem still remains - will shut down on it's own, usually in the middle of a really good part of a battle (I'm sure that's just bad timing though).

Going to open a bug report if there's not been one opened already.

Ive been playing Custom battles with the smallest number of other players as possible as I find I can make it through 9 out of 10 battles without a freeze. I think the problem lies in the size of the bubble. The bigger the bubble needed to generate the battle situation the more things exist to tax the bubble. The same holds for the frame rates. I have had games where turning away from the action and flying only where the opposition and friendly are few i have decent frame rates but if i mix it in the heart of the fur ball  my frames drop like a rock.

My advice is Start playing the Custom Battle option and make your own custom battles that are set up so that only 8, 10 or 12  players can join in.

Yea I am having the same issue as all of you here. (I posted the crash report TwoLittle2Late shared). I am on a 27 inch iMac with the following specs:

1. OS version is macOS Sierra 10.12.5

2. Cpu is 4 GHz Intel Core i7

3. Gpu is AMD Radion R9 M395 with 2048 MB

4. Ram is 16GB 1867 MHz DDR3

Has anyone found a solution yet? The game was running flawlessly at 60+ fps on high settings and I had nor problems whatsoever.

The problem I am having (and Eomethous too, I believe) is not with the game freezing - it's shutting totally down with no error messages.

I have been playing GF Arcade up until now. I did go into Air Arcade earlier today, and was able to play three battles without any issues, Went right into GF again, and boom - shut down on me again in the first battle.  It appears to be due to the heavier graphics in GF (?), but it also happens whether I use OpenGL or Metal, so....

Really wish we could get a response on this.

Yea I am crashing randomly, not freezing. I crash with no error messages like TwoLittle2Late.

So you are crashing in air as well? I haven't done air since the new update so I didn't know if it crashed there or not. At least now I know.

Just adding that I've also started a Bug report, mainly because my MAC isn't quite the same as Eometheus, being a bit older and with an NVIDIA GTX GeForce 780M card. The same symptoms, not a freeze as usually the sound continues on but the video is stuck. Had a lot of stutters in the video as well when it was running.

Went down to ULQ and managed to get 4 games before the sky glitches out and went black. It stayed black in the hangar and next game I lost all ground rendering. Didn't actually stop but unplayable.

some history, back about 10 months ago I was having a lot of freezes, and Gaijin did improve it a bit. 1.69 was bad initially but switching to OpenGL improved it so I would only get a freeze of the game not a system freeze about once every 10-15 games or so. After 1.71 it is a freeze a game until ULQ, and then other issues. Haven't checked to see if I am still using OpenGL or have been switched back to Metal in the update. I see that Metal-2 is due out in High Sierra, but from a comment above that might not make a difference.

Suggestion - maybe Gaijin recruit a few Mac players to test in advance of release, these sues were spotted very quickly and they are drastic, making the game unplayable. There's probably quite a few with different MAC configurations who would happily run a beta and relay results back; might help the QA process for release be just a little more effective.

This would be very nice to have, because there always seems to be an main issue that makes the game unplayable or broken in some parts of the game. This one being crashing/freezing. I remember in one update it would force me into ulq for no reason, in another it made clouds just a missing texture, and now this. So if Gaijin had some people run the game on Macs, maybe these problems could be stopped completely. Because my birthday was on September 12th and I got the m46 tiger so I could grind out tanks. But with this update I can't play a single match without crashing.

I would volunteer to test things out on the Mac side.

To answer your question, Eometheous, I was able to play Air with no issues - it didn't crash at all for the 6 or 7 games I played. The first game I went back to ground with though - boom Shut right down on me.

There was a patch shortly before 1.69 come out that introduced Metal support for Macs, when that came out I was getting the locking up and the freezing. Once I switched from Metal to OpenGL though, it cleared everything up for me and didn't have any issues with it after.

Yea I did the same, especially since steam doesn't even support metal yet so I switched back to OpenGL pretty fast. I might go back and do some air battles then if you aren't experiencing any crashes there. I really wish I could do more tanks though since I bought the m46 tiger last week and am enjoying it so much.

And yea it crashes really fast for me and at random times. One game I fired my gun, instant crash with no error. One game I was just driving up a hill to get a shot on an enemy t44, instant crash with no warning. It even happened in tank test drives with no warning.

I found out a way to play. I switched rendering from auto to OpenGL, turned on Low graphics, and turned on VSync. With these 3 alterations, my computer is able to run the game no problem. The only downside is that the graphics are pretty bad and sometimes I will get FPS lag spikes. If anyone else is this desperate to play, just follow what I did, I hope it works for you!

Great to know but I would still like to be able to run on High settings on 1440 resolution without crashing. For now until this gets fixed I might just go back to grinding the Italian tech tree. Since it doesn't crash there and I was able to play a few games before logging off for the day.
