Euphonium 0 Report post Posted October 27, 2017 I've been playing the standalone version for WT for a year or more without difficulty. After my last OS reinstall, I decided to try the Steam version of the game, as I thought it might be more convenient. When the Steam download is ~90% complete, the install fails, with Steam giving a "cannot write to disk" error, and my antivirus software (Avira Free) reporting "bpreport.exe containing the pattern of TR/Patched.gen" The standalone version of the game downloads and installs without problem. What is bpreport.exe? The standalone game puts it in the .obsolete folder, so I'm not sure why it's necessary I know I can disable my AV software to allow the Steam install to complete, but I'd rather not have to, especially when the standalone game doesn't trigger my AV Any ideas please? relliK 3,227 Report post Posted October 27, 2017 the bpreport.exe is the crash reporter - when the game is crashing it will submit the crash details to Gaijin (if permitted by the player) it's not really necessary for the game but it's included in the tools.zip archive that is containing some other game files... most likely the anti virus software is checking the archive before it gets written to the disk and is either removing the file in question or even completely blocking the extraction of the archive. the bpreport.exe in the ..\.obsolete\ folder is an older version of the file that got replaced by a new one on a game patch. afaik the bpreport.exe should be present in the ..\War Thunder\win32\ folder. now while the game could run even without that file the launcher will see it 'missing' from the folder and will try to redownload it and i dont think there is a way to exclude certain files on Steam at all. you may be able to upload the file (or archive - tools.zip) to avira to have them check the file and if the deem it to be clean they will whitelist the file so after an update of the av software the download (or update) should go through without issues... this however may (or rather will) take some time. i dont know why the standalone version isn't giving you this problem but the Steam download is... maybe you excluded the War Thunder folder (or this specific file) in the past ?! or there is a different version ?! so i think atm it's either to 'trust' this file (at your own discretion and risk ofc) or wait for an update of your av software (well. ofc you could also disable the heuristic check in the av software since this is most likely triggering the alert but this ofc will lower the security of your system ^^). since the file is most likely being removed before it even gets written to the disk you cannot upload it to a virus checking website like www.virustotal.com either i guess... this website is checking files (or archives) with over 50 different anti virus engines and the result could make the decision to block or allow that file way more easy =/ if you got the tools.zip in the ..\win32\ folder and it IS actually containing the bpreport.exe you may give it a try though. Euphonium 0 Report post Posted October 27, 2017 Thanks for the quick reply! This is a fresh install of Windows, so no existing exclusions on the AV. I'll have a poke around, but maybe just stick with the standalone for now
