Hey guys,

recently I unlocked the german Bf 109 F-4, but I'm not doing well with it. I do not get my guns on target very often and when I land a shot the plane lacks the proper burst mass to do much (this does not apply when a "Minengeschoss" hits). Can anyone give me some good advice on how to be good with this plane?

And this is almost bringing tears to my eyes. Instead of cries for nerfs of opponents' planes, you're asking for advice on how to do better.

Sorry, you just literally made my day.

Anyways, it's been a while for me since I tried the F-4, but I'll definitey poke some people in your direction who may have more up to date knowledge on making the plane perform - there were at least two FM updates between the last time I flew it and today.

Just one thing: Do not use gunpods. Ever. On any 109.

I usually do the Boom and Zoom tactic with It,but you must make sure your shots are accurate. You don't have that much ammo and spamming can empty you out quickly.

I would disagree that you don't have that much ammo haha. Aside from Italians, 190s, some USN aircraft, and some heavy fighters no one carries as much 20mm/gun as you at a similar ranking.

So you could spray a bit esp to begin with to get your lead and everything. As for the proper burst mass, I'm not sure the MG 151/20 has been feeling weak as of late, although it could be my aim. Still it's a solid gun. You might be having an issue with stock belts, which have an unfortunately low mine shell composition. For now I'd recommend just standard energy fighting. It might be tedious, but you can whittle down opponents alone. With squad/teammates you can be even more effective. Eventually you'll get air targets or stealth or omni or something with some more mine shells and you'll feel a lot better.

I use the gunpods on the G2 and Im doing great with it, it allows me to hunt bombers and be still nimble enough to win dog fights I don't find the speed cost from the added weight mattering much, its very destructive when hitting something.

The F4 is like the other 109s basically a BnZ energy fighter that can rudder turn great making it one of best all rounders in the game, keep it high and fast, when you need to turn sharp it can rudder turn on a hairpin surprising some enemy pilots giving you kills against dedicated turn fighters, the 109s are a great series of planes.

Wanna know about the difference between gunpods and no gunpods?

These were made way back in the day - if memory serves, FMs were the same in both videos.

I don't play RB I must give it a go it looks much slower paced more tactical and precise, in AB you can get away with more and fly more reckless to get kills and its much faster paced which opens doors.

In the first video I thought the 109s played a silly game, I would have thought they would have played the advantage of having two better than they did, it looked to me like a boxer not cutting of the ring just following the leader getting picked off, they could have side climbed and baited always working to get one with altitude advantage but they didn't try anything but follow.

Great flying thanks for posting them.

PS. just had a game and looked at my G2 and the pods are not activated, I thought they were but there not, I don't like fixing something that's not broke and Im doing well in it as it is so they will stay off.

About gunpods. They're not worh using in air to air combat, as they're poorly harmonized with your MG 151/20. Their significantly higher velocity means that most of the time, you'll be hitting either with them or 20mm, but not both.

They are, however, quite useful for ground attack. The AI medium tanks in AB and air RB are vulnerable to the API-(c) rounds for MG 151/15 from sides and rear. If the situation calls for it, F-4 can be quite useful ground pounder.
