The P-40F Warhawk was an important evolution in the design of one of the classic fighters of WWII.  At its core, it was a P-40E (the model currently in the game) equipped with a British-built Merlin engine providing additional power (1300 HP instead of the 1150 HP of the previous Allison engine).  This effort to equip the P-40 with the Merlin engine would go on to spawn the famous P-51 Mustang, but in the meantime the P-40F amassed quite a combat record of its own.  The P-40F was the first P-40 variant designated Warhawk by the U.S. military.  It was armed with 6 .50 caliber M2 Browning machine guns.

"Maximum speed was 320 mph at 5000 feet, 340 mph at 10,000 feet, 352 mph at 15,000 feet, and 364 mph at 20,000 feet. An altitude of 10,000 feet could be attained in 4.5 minutes, and an altitude of 20,000 feet could be reached in 11.6 minutes. Maximum range was 700 miles at 20,000 feet (clean), 875 miles (one 43 Imp gal drop tank), and 1500 miles (141.5 Imp gal drop tank). Service ceiling was 34,400 feet. Weights were 6590 pounds empty, 8500 pounds normal loaded, and 9350 pounds maximum. Dimensions were 37 feet 4 inches wingspan, 33 feet 4 inches length (P-40F-5-CU and later), 10 feet 7 inches high, 236 square feet wing area."

150 P-40Fs and Ls (a lightened version of the F) were supplied to Britain under the designation "Kittyhawk II".  100 were transferred to the Soviet Union.

The P-40F saw extensive combat over North Africa in American, British, and Free French service, fighting against aircraft like the Bf 109 F and MC 202.

Any additional information on the plane would be welcome!  I don't have access to any flight manuals for the P-40F but I know there are a few drifting around.  Please let me know what you think!

all for it. the P-40 is like the bf 110 in that it's been in the game for a LONG time and has multiple models but has been ignored (save for the FM update that made the p-40 amazing).

i'm for the P-40F being in the american and french trees only. the soviets have plenty of their own gear, and the brits can get the P-40L as its different than the P-40F.

so... +2.5 i guess?

Thanks for your support!  Hopefully we can get the B, C, K, and N models that have been on the release tree added to the game soon too!

Right there with you. The game is missing a lot from the early war period.

Thanks for your support!  Do you still have that flight manual that you showed me in the other thread?  That would provide a lot of useful performance data.

Is there a way to make those vertical charts horizontal? Its a bit hard to read like that.

Thanks for the additional support, everyone.

Anyone know what else we need to get this moved to further discussion?

Something gets moved to further discussion purely based on how many replies it has.

So if this were to be added, it would face planes like the 109 E and F models, the MC 200 and 202, the A6M2 and the early Ki-61s, and the Yak-9s and La-5s in realistic.

I'm not the biggest RB player, so I'd like to hear from those that are how you think the P-40F would stack up.  As mentioned above, it's basically the P-40 we have but with a more powerful engine.

You've got my support.  The P-40E already helps introduce US pilots to the "standard" US plane designs that start in rank 2 with its .50 BMG main armament, high top speed and good energy retention.  Adding the P-40F would be an awesome way to both continue to help new US pilots build their skills they learned in the P-40E, but also introduce them to a new strength of US planes - high altitude dominance.  I'm all for teaching players how to play correctly so this would be an excellent addition to the current tree.  It should be enjoyable for veterans to fly as well, the P-40 is one of the better US fighters around its BR, an improved version is always welcome.  BR 3.0 for this beast?

Glad to have your support!  You make some excellent points here.  I mostly want the P-40F for its historicity and to get more P-40s in the game, but it will likely help players develop better flying habits, too.  And I know that veteran pilots will enjoy it.

3.0 sounds pretty decent for both AB and RB (the P-40E should honestly be uptiered a little in AB as it stands).

No problem.  My dad actually knows the guy whose grandfather's P-40 is on display at the USAF Museum in Dayton, Ohio, so the P-40 is a bit special to me.

+1

If I remember correctly they already have plans to add in the P40A/B/F/K/& N models.....

However in order to help you with this request I will also request the addition of the P-40N-40 with the Allison V1710-115 Engine

Here is a document to help you out, it's all USAAC official, including testing from both Eglin AFB in Florida and Wright Field Ohio, this covers ALL version of the P40 including the F & N variants.
