_ScottyDoesntKnow_ 90 Report post Posted December 8, 2017 Depends on where you are on the map. Are they attacking from above or below? Best thing I suggest is that you go low altitude run and evade while flying toward your airfield or teammates. Best thing to always remember is to not put yourself in that situation. Stay close to teammates.
cashmeowsidehbd 1,269 Report post Posted December 8, 2017 what if you are in a bomber and you get attacked by a p51 and a spitfire and all your teammates are 3500m below you?
_ScottyDoesntKnow_ 90 Report post Posted December 8, 2017 You're pretty much screwed unless your gunners help. Also, remember as a bomber you start out at a higher altitude and where fighters spawn its hard to catch up. I see too many bombers just speed ahead to target and get shot down because they simply didn't wait for escorts. But then again, I know it's not easy to find fighter escorts. They have those? Why would anyone escort a bomber for free? And how are things in good old Mt. Gilead today? Get any snow yesterday? I'm up Mansfield way myself. Depends on which bomber you are in. If you are in a heavy bomber, you are semi-safe (ex. Pe-8, B-17), as you are decently durable and if you know how to aim, will be able to either scare off or shoot down those dumb enough to tailgate you. If you are in a medium bomber like a B-25, you could try to dive down, as it doesn't have a ventral turret. If you are in a dive bomber, just gun it for the deck. They are meant to dive at high speeds, after all. They are decently maneuverable too (SBD, SB2C, et cetera). I don't know much about Russian bombers, but I believe that this would apply to any bomber.

Ska_King_Felix 1,450 Report post Posted December 9, 2017 They have good structural integrity though. Isn't that for the extreme stresses on the airframe from diving at high speeds and the high-G pullout? Also, A-36 is a dive bomber, yet the airbrakes were often wired shut, even in the training groups.
Senior Technical Moderator Rapitor 10,702 Report post Posted December 9, 2017 Unrelated. A6M have a stronger wing spar / structural integrity than most US airplanes. It doesn't grant them higher dive speed or better high speed response. Past 6-7G, the limitation is the pilot, not the plane structural limitation.
