Thank you.

No problem. If you find it problematic, try getting more direct hits on the planes you engage, because sometimes shooting the edge of a plane part won't do it. If you still have issues try stealth, it has a bit of AP that could be of use.

Do you know the best ammo type that kills modules? Like engine for example? I feel like breaking wings and tails has became rng.

AP kills modules, but since it has no HE, sometimes it goes right through the wing of an aircraft and overpens it for example. It doesn't detonate, so a combination of HE and AP is usually the best. HE alone can do the work though.

My top 3 would be,

1. Stealth since the shot hits harder than the rest of the belts, Good HE and some AP. U can allow to correct and remain unseen with a good approach. Not recommended for anything big tho, aim the wings. Great when 4x 20 mm. I love the element of surprise. The worst aspect is that some planes might survive all these HE if you not swift and precise enough.

2. The Universal belt. Is good for everything and can sometimes 1 shot the enemy plane or the pilot. Does not excels at anything but is not the worst. Good when 2x 20mm and great on 4x

3. Air targets is good for anything small. Just a lot of HE with some penetration. Great with small targets but as the author stated. U always need to care for approach since the shells can do the so-called sparks.

A bonus is the ground target, If you want to break things apart (wings and spars, also tanks), This one's for you. It's not the best Anti-air. Will often go pass the plane without damaging anything so u need to know where you shooting to destroy the plane and kill the pilot with a good convergence as well. Highly recommended in 4 x 20mm since only 2 is way more inefficient unless paired appropriately with effective secondary belts.

Hispanos Mk. V just makes everything better. But also keep in mind you will deplete ammo quickly so if you waste to much inefficient ammo belt into an enemy you might end dead or ammo less and surrounded.

Ground targets in .50 cals has more AP-I than Universal afaik.

I will not add Universal to the 20mms as they're worse than Default

I'll check GT for the 37mm soon

For German 20mm FF non turret guns, I'd use universal. It has more HE.

I checked, they have the same FI-T and APHE amount but air targets have IT.

As a player who has every plane in the game (excluding premiums, I have a lot but not all) and spent a huge chunk of my time into the game (registered Sept 2013), I think I know this game very well. I decided to share my knowledge with beginners and all other players with picking ammo belts to help them pick the correct ones. I see a lot of players picking tracers for every gun which is not correct although there are only a few guns that have tracers as the best ammo belt option.

Note #1: The listing is based on where the gun came from, not where it's located in the tech tree (for example the Lewis machine gun is found on the S.81 Italian bomber in the Italian tech tree but is of US origin and design so on this guide it's located under the US section).

Note #2: This list is mostly applicable for picking belts for enemy aircraft engagements. For guns capable of ground attacking non-soft targets (medium tanks, heavy tanks, light pillboxes etc) I included the appropriate belts for them too.

Note #3: This guide is not opinionated. The belts that were chosen in this list represent the maximum damage you can get out of the guns they are referred to. Some players would rather use tracers on the type 99 mk II Japanese 20mm for example as personal preference (I did that for a very long time too, thinking tracers were the best for Japanese 20mms but I was wrong), but Universal has the most damage output.

Note #4: This list also includes Stealth ammunition belts for specific guns because they're as good as the other best ammo belts but are better, in the sense of making surprise attacks on enemy planes because usually players only react to being shot at when they see tracers flying past them, and only react to stealth ammo when they're hit. If you are able to lead stealth ammo, that's great; it's another option for you rather than only Universal on MG 17s for example.

For german 15mm 151s I'd take armored targets. They're good for pilot sniping and killing modules. All the others feel like they have the same damage outcomes.

I've personally had more success with air targets but I'll look into it

The tier of the aircraft and the belts

Compare for example the belts of machine guns installed on an early WW2 US plane like the P-40 with the P-47D and the P-51H

I would like a bit of embellishment here.

For example, bombers tend to be sturdier and better armoured than fighters - how does that weigh in on your damage output calculation?
Another thing is incendiaries - they mainly do damage over time, while a AP round will deal everything at once - how is that factored in?
How much does penteration factor in? It seems to me that some ammo with 2mm pen seems to have high damage output, BUT that only matters of the damage actually gets through the armour - so how do you weigh in those factors?

In short: How do you weigh in factors like pen, he, fire, muzzle velocity etc when you condense it into "maximum damage".

Second: I would love to see a bit more on the characteristics of the different ammo types. I mean APIT _sounds_ good, but how much of "I" (however that is factored) do you lose by having the round AP as well? How much for the tracer burnoff? Muzze velocoty matters a LOT for  aiming, so if you have a belt with fast T, but slow HE rounds - where does your HE rounds actually go?

I hope i made my point here, first I'd like to know what "damage" actually refers to in the chart, second, i'd love to know some of the ammo characteristics ingame - Possibly in another thread, but it seems as reasonable that velocity factors in, just like visibility does in tha argument for/against tracers.

ITA Breda-SAFAT 12,7mm & 7,7mm rly not Tracer with API-T?

This is because he is assuming the he/iai work. They do not. They are missing he filler on every vehicle except the reserve tier pt boat. As such tracers are the best choice. If you want to see what the he bullet should preform like go use the reserve tier pt italian boat. I had a friend sail a pt boat in custom that I could shoot with cr42 and the reserve pt boat and the difference in damage and pen is night and day.

This mean that Ground Targets and Tracers do the same damage?

Yeah, almost, tracers have more FI-T and from my recent experience they're the best for damage output

The belts of the gun don't work in general but that belt seems to perform best regardless.

Great guide. Could someone explain me which is better and why for MG 131, stealth or IAI?

See if IAI can set fires, if not then stealth and try its AP

there's a lot of weird stuff here.

why would you use HVAP for the BK 7,5 when you have APHE?

the 13.2mm stealth belt contains entirely AP, while the air targets belt is 75% HEF-T and very destructive

also i find that tracers on the M1919 (7.7mm browning) are extremely incendiary when aimed at fuel/engines, and that can allow you to kill things by just setting them on fire, which helps for larger aircraft (like bombers) where it is harder to pilot snipe.
