i would like to propose the french prototype of SPAA of the early 80s, the AMX 10 TTB

ba1cef93fecd.jpg

the AMX 10 TTB is one of the less know tanks of the french industry, the tank was fitted the 40mm Bofors L70 cannon and tested in the early 80s to fill a close support role against light armored combat vehicles and low flying aircraft. the tank by himself was based on the AMX 10P and only the turret was modified. the vehicles was unable to carry passenger anymore and become completly a AFV. the AMX 10 TTB was offered to the market until 1990 when it was removed for a unstable political reason and also because the anti-aircraft cannon was consider obsolete in favors of the anti-air missiles. no country bought the AMX 10 TTB

Currently stored at saumure museum. This vehicle with an elevation of +50° could either be considered as rank 4 SPAA with bellow average AA capacity or IFV of rank 3 With some AA capacity. The role would only make it have a BR change. In AA role, this would make a Br 4.7 to 5.3 SPAA but as IFV, the BR would be reduced to 4.3 to 5.0 to compensating the penetration who is not so great.

Ammunition data would really help this suggestion. As it's an 80s vehicle it almost certainly used proximity fused rounds, but there are a lot of other unknowns there..

the gun is the same as the one used on the AMX 13 DCA 40, only the DCA 40 have a mistake on the penetration wich is about 20mm lower than what is should according to this document.

Huh, just assumed that was an L/60 on the DCA 40.

it's the L/70 actually, you can see the different by looking at the spring holes on the side of the gun at the base of the barrel.

0146.jpg

the L/70 have two small spring holes

MaltaCommand1.jpg

the L/60 have one large spring hols only.

the AMX 13 DCA 40 turret was indeed equiped with the L/70, it's still is even if the spring was removed, the turret is right now rusting removed from the hull in the backyard of Saumur museum

amxdca40_1.jpg

as we can see in this picture, there was indeed 2 small holes and the document also mention the L/70, so there make no doubt about the gun. but there is a difference of the effectiveness of the gun, the first is the L/70 have a lot greater rate of fire over the L/60, nearly double in fact. also the velocity is a bit better which result of a better accuracy, range and penetration. for the penetration, there is about 90mm at 100m, in overall, it's about 20mm superior than the L/60 at every range (if it hit the target at 90 degree). which is not negligible. that gun could penetrate a tiger 1H hull by the front at a little short distance.

Gaijin got the AMX 13 DCA 40 model right, the rate of fire is also correct or about as correct as it was tested in reality, but they just put the penetration value of the L/60 which is not correct. a bug rapport was been fill with the document i show above but it's not enough. it do not tell the penetration at 90 degree so it's hard to say what would be the correct one. but it's clear the present penetration is incorrect but they do not want to change it for something else that is only esteemed and might be also incorrect. so i keep looking for another penetration test rapport.

but about the AMX 10 TTB, the gun barrel around the base is covered by a collar so we cannot tell on the picture if that gun is the L/60 or L/70, knowing the L/70 also have a little swallow part at the end of the barrel near the muzzle cone and not the L/60, it's for me a decent evidence that the gun is indeed a L/70. also the article over the internet only mention the L/70 so it seem fair enough,

The French do require more SPAAs to fill the gap between the AMX-13 DCA 40 and the AMX-30 DCA. I would suggest putting this around 5.7-6.3 assuming it's not equipped with radar guidance. The L/70 is one of my favorite autocannons in War Thunder, I'd hope to see this in a future appearance. You have my support once again.

Yes pls. France need so much more vehicles. And there are so many France could get.

I know most of them are prototypes. But still. They where made and tested.

actually i said prototype but it wasn't a prototype anymore. it was a market venture that turned out to be a failure. no one was interrested. it came too late. the era of the guided missile was starting and the bofors was out-classed by 30mm and 23mm auto-cannon as anti-aircraft gun.

+1 just after the amx dca 40. It will do the same job as they have the same weapon, but with a better mobility, some smoke grenade and a better turret.

Once again it would be really nice if we could have other pictures, maybe this tank wasn't destroyed and can still be found?

As @MaddDawg90 found out in this book, the gun is actually the same as the Strf 9040, the Bofors 40/70B, which makes the vehicle even more interesting :good:

Oof nice!! This mean we could have something in between of AMX30 DCA and the AMX13 DCA not just a 0.3 up because of ammo storage being larger :D sure gib!!!

Edit : on the wiki there is no data for the rof of the strf9040 serie

I mean if it gets some of the rounds the Strf 9040 gets, it would go higher than the AMX-30 DCA. Btw its elevation is only 50°, not the best do deal with planes. I think it should be considered more as an IFV than an SPAA.

Why not, France doesn't have any IFV yet and AMX 10p only have access to 20 25 and 30 mm gun with no missille. But since the official role to this was a support vehicule and named "DCA" (AA) this could be an agressive SPAA vehicle... also it doesn't have access to any radar and its elevation is better than the Strf 9040 with its 35° (and there is a AA version of this)

Yeah it would be a nice IFV/anti-helicopter vehicle, with some limited anti-jet capability
