i would like to suggest this tank in addition to the british tree. the Medum Mark III and while at it, i would also suggest his predecessor, the A6.

the design of the Medium Mark III started back in 1926 when the royal british army provided new requirement for a new tank intended to replace the Vicker Medium Mark II, the requirement included the ability to penetrate the enemy tank (of that time) at 1000 yards, 13mm of frontal armor, 6.5mm of all around armor, wireless set, the fuel tank external to the crew compartment, the engine in a separated compartment, the bottom armor able to stand the hit of HMG, the capacity to be carry on a train and all that under 15.7 tons. for this last requirement about the weight of the tank, the series of new tank proposed received the nickname of "16 tonner"

the first tank proposed by Vickers and armstrong in 1927 was designated the A6. it was a tank hichly based on the A1E1 independant and shared the same armament as the Vickers Medium Mark II wich was a 3-pounder gun. in addition, the A6 was carrying two auxiliary turret in the front, both armed with two machingun. the tank was having the required 13mm of frontal armor and 6.5mm all around the tank. it was powered by the Armstrong Siddeley V8 180bhp. the tank was initially having a AA mg on the rear of the turret but that gun was considered as impraticable. 3 A6 was built and designedted as the A6E1, A6E2 and A6E3. those three tank remained at the experimental stage and unsucessful as the armament arrangement and the suspenssion had serial problem, the 3 tank was used as test bed until 1936

after the failure of the A6, mostly due to the suspenssion. the development continued in 1928 with the Medium Mark III. the tank was a improved version with better armor, redesignated turret and better suspension. the tank was also having trouble with the new suspenssion but successfully reached the speed of 48 Km/h on road wich proven the suspenssion to be superrious, two prototype was built in 1930 by Royal Ordonance Factory and a third one was built by Vickers and Armstrong. the vicker tank was having a upgraded suspension wich was intended to fix the previous reliability issue but it is uncertain if the new suspenssion was a sucess. the tank was ready to be produced but due to the high cost of the tank, no order came. so bad because it was actually a decent machine.

the A6E1 was the first tank to be produced in 1928. a second tank, the A6E2 was built later with a very similar concept, the tank had a comfortable working space for the crew inside and was estimated to have the top speed of 36km/h. but the engineer underestimated the speed of the tank wich reached a speed of 41.5 km/h on the road. in 1929, the both tank was moved in Farnborough for further test. the A6E2 was refitted with the 180 hp Ricardo CI engine but this engine turned out not to be so good. the engine was later reverted to the original Armstrong Siddeley V8. fallowing the test, it was becoming clear the the twin machine-gun in the turret was too hard to operate propelly and the suspension wich was the one used on the Medium Mark II was too weak for the new tank. the tank went into a series of proposed design by Vicker compagny. one of wich was required a entired new tank. this leaded to the A6E3

A6E3

the A6E3 was a proposed improvement of the suspension of the 16 toner tank. the new suspensions was similar of the one found on the Vickers Mk.E. the auxiliary turret was changed to the simplified turret as those found on the A1E1 independent but with the machine-gun slightly moved to the right to have more space. the turret was now armed with a single machine-gun each. the main turret also received a few modification. the turret was not fitted with a single copula and the AA machine-gun was removed permanently. despite of all those modification, the tank didn't had an real improvement to the performance of the suspension and the tank weight was increased to 16.25 tons.

in a hope to make the tank faster, the engine was later replaced with a 500 hp diesel Thornycroft RY/12 engine used on the speed boat. it's uncertain if the engine raised the speed of the tank but apparently it was working (even without increasing of the speed, a tank with that engine could two 1-2 tank of his rank without feeling the burden)

Medium Mark III E1 and E2

the Medium Mark III tank was a upgraded tank over the A6 but retained most of his configuration. the first was the engine wich was still the Armstrong Siddeley V8 of 180HP but the new tank was now having a upgraded suspension. the armor was sigly improved with 9mm all around instand of 6.5. the main turret was redesigned with a bustle to host the radio No.9 and the copula, now moved to the left, was borrowed to the Vicker Medium Mark IIa. the tank performance was improved due to the new suspensions but the new suspension was still a bit weak for the tank. two tank was built by the Royal ordonance factory in 1930, one of them burned during a trial. the first tank was actually used in the army in from 1934 where it was used as commander tank for a tank brigade ( Experimental Mechanized Group) wich it was intensively used untile 1938. a third vehicles was built in 1931 by vickers with a improved suspension. however, no order was made for this tank for the single reason of it was too costly.

Literally a British T-28. The brits used this tank as inspiration for the T-28

That would be Russians that used it as inspiration then.

Mr Picky (ie me :)) would like to point out that there is no such thing as the "royal british army" - the navy is the Royal Navy, the Airforce is the Royal Airforce, but the army is just the British Army - mainly because it traces its origins back to the Parliamentary "New Model Army" in the English civil war of the 1640's ....

We need more interwar period tanks for Britain. The 2pdr is much more powerful than other nations AT gun at low tier and a lot of early Japanese and Italian tanks were designed when 30-40mm of penetreation was plenty to take out a tank.

the 37mm M3 and 45mm 20K is not much different. the M3 even came a bit late to a point there was nearly none in the begining of WW2, the builk of the American tank was still armed with the 12.7mm as main gun. the 45mm was different as it was ready in the mid 30s. but the 37mm 7-K should be consider as matching the german 37mm Pak 36, or French 37mm SA38, or the Italian 37mm Vickers-terni and also the Japanese gun. there was a few tank the Russian had with the 37mm 7-K like the BT-2 who could replace the BT-5 as reserve. it would still have enough firepower and the same great mobility.

Well it's because UK and the Americans have late war (well 1943) ammo like M51B1 or Shot Mk X for the 37mm and 2Pdr which are comparatively powerful ammo. But at the same time Sweden gets APDS at reserve for vehicles that were out of service long before APDS for the gun entered service when you put it like that...
