*Apotheosis27 9 Report post Posted March 31, 2018 Couple of questions... 1. What is the difference between active and passive sonar, and when should each be used? 2. How do you evade a torpedo? Do you use the noisemakers or something? Any other insights or strategies would be awesome, I have no idea what the hell is going on lol
Smutol 2,730 Report post Posted March 31, 2018 Active sonar is detected by enemy at huge ranges while passive lets u remain hidden way longer. Evading a torpedo? Evacuate spawn point ASAP since the meta is now to blind fire from spawns and u are almost guaranteed to hit something ( map too small for the torpedo ranges). After that be sure not to enable active sonar ever. and just frag those not so smart that use active sonar or spotted by ur team by any other means
*Apotheosis27 9 Report post Posted March 31, 2018 Cool, thanks. What is optimal distance to fire a torpedo?

Admiral_Aruon 2,264 Report post Posted March 31, 2018 the best way is to not get killed is to: 1: camp harder than the boy scouts or a company of Challenger 1's. you make less noise as you move slower, so... simply don't move much. either up bubble and surface, or down bubble and impact (preferably gently!) on the sea floor at an angle where you can still launch torpedos and also be very difficult to hit in return, even if the enemy knows your exact position. 2: DON'T SPAM ACTIVE RADAR LIKE A MORON. 3: repeat steps one and two. 1 hour ago, i_ivanof said: you can literally fire them from spawn to spawn so any distance is fine at some point you DO lost manual control though. i just saw it happen... like 20 meters away from a sub's bow. interesting to see that hit cam and see the mini explosions cut like halfway through the enemy sub. If the sonar on the torpedo is off, you only have the sonar on your submarine to aim with, so your torpedo may go straight past an enemy without knowing it's there. On the other hand, the torpedo doesn't send out a loud ping to warn the enemy, so only if they hear it will they detect it. If the torpedo sonar is on, it can see what's in front of it and detect targets that the sonar on your submarine hasn't found. On the downside, it sends out a loud ping that lets everyone know "I'm a torpedo and I'm right here", giving them the chance to take evasive action. Submarine warfare is a bit like a gunfight in a completely dark room: Both antagonists have a gun and a flashlight. If you turn on the flashlight, you can maybe spot he other guy, but the the other guy can see you for sure.

I haven't noticed any improved spotting capabilities with it on. edit; ok nvm it makes a big difference Edited April 1, 2018 by blastedryan
