AMX-13 DCA Prototype

 Share

Introduction:

Taken from Tank Encyclopedia "The AMX-13 DCA was, therefore, the second SPAAG (Self-Propelled Anti-Aircraft Gun) designed, but the first built in series in France. Development started in the early 1960s, around a new weapons system. The choice was made of the 30 mm Hispano Suiza HSS 831. The twin 30mm AA self propelled was a highly maneuverable armored vehicle for the defense low altitude troops defence within 1000 m. The AMX-13 DCA assumed forward air defense to French tank battalions, was introduced in 1969, produced to a small number (60) but maintained in service until the end of the cold war.":

Statistics:

Dimensions 4.9 (5.4 oa) x2.51 x3.80 m (xx’ xxx’ xxx’ ft)
Total weight, battle ready 17.2 tons (??? ibs)
Crew 3 (driver, cdr, gunner)
Propulsion SOFAM 8Gxb 8-cyl. petrol 250 hp @3.200 rpm 14.5 hp/t
Suspension Torsion Bars
Speed (road) 60 km/h (40 mph)
Range 300 km (for 480 fuel L)
Armament 2 x 30 mm HS-831A autocannons
Armor 8-20 mm steel RH

With the recent uptiering of the AMX-30 variant this could serve as a placeholder between the 40mm armed version and the former. It's mounted on the famous AMX-13 chassis but does not retain a tracking radar like its production variants. I believe this might solve the gap problem as it currently stands. I look forward to your input.

o desempenho é comparável ao Falcon, que fica em 7,7. Como já temos o AMX 30 DCA a 0,3 maior, eu realmente não vejo necessidade disso.

Coelian and Kugelblitz have BR 0.3 difference.
This new SPAA can enter into BR 7.0

iirc the AMX-13 DCA prototype was the AMX-13 DCA 40 which then had it's armament changed to the twin 30mm cannons and went into serial production.

The prototype in your image here was just the prototype of the 30mm DCA so basically the exact same vehicle I already suggested.

Spoiler

Not necessarily, the prototype lacked any fire control system and was not equipped with radar. I believe there are also some small aesthetic changes to the vehicle that are not present in the production version. Right now there's a big gap in the French SPAA lineup, the prototype could bridge some of those concerns.

My bad, totally forgot about the radar.

I could see this supporting the AMX30B (and hopefully the ERC Sagaie) at 7.3. This would complete the line-up at that BR making it one of the 3 "sweet spots" for the French: 4.7 BR, 6.7 BR and 7.3 BR.

Yes pls. FR could really use it. They need a SPAA between the AMX-13 DCA 40 and AMX-30 DCA.

+1 from me too.

Sorry but why proposing the prototype?
This SPAA actually entered service.

I guess proposing the prototype allows to have an SPAA without radar, and hence at a lower BR... But still...

Personally I find it redundant to add the production AMX-13 DCA when we already have the AMX-30 DCA which uses the same turret and radar array. I'd rather have something that can be put at a lower BR and fill a gap rather than be saddled with more Rank V material. That said if it were ever to be implemented I wouldn't have a problem with it.

I guess we could get the production variant foldered with the 30 DCA as it was actually used by the French Army, and still get the prototype to fill the gap between the 13 DCA 40 and the 30 DCA.
