  1. 1. Would you like to see the AMX-30 ACRA in War Thunder : Ground Forces ?

    • Yes, I would like to see it.
    • No and I have reasons for it (explain).

AMX-30 ACRA

In a few words :

  • Basically an AMX-30B hull fitted with the T 142 prototype turret armed with a 142 mm gun-launcher.

  • ACRA stands for Anti-Char Rapide Autopropulsé : rapid self-propelled anti-tank.

  • The ACRA program was launched in 1961 and was discontinued in 1974.

The ACRA missile :

  • Caliber : 142 mm
  • Length of the complete round : 1250 mm
  • Length of the missile : 1220 mm
  • Weight of the complete round : 26 kg
  • Weight of the missile : 24 kg
  • Muzzle velocity : 150 m/s
  • Flying speed : 500 m/s
  • Travel time (1000 m) : 2,7 s
  • Travel time (3300 m) : 7 s
  • Minimum effective range : 25 m
  • Maximum effective range : 3300 m (tested at a range of over 3500 m)
  • Warhead : 6,035 kg shaped charge (2,5 kg of hexolite)
  • Fuzing angle : 75°
  • Penetration performance : defeat the NATO 65° target or 380 mm of RHA*

*It was found during the development that the alternator inside the missile head was in the path of the shaped-charge jet, limiting its penetrating depth to 380 mm. This problem was later solved by replacing the alternator by a set of thermal batteries arranged as a ring around the jet path.

The "complimentary" ammunition :

  • Caliber : 142 mm
  • Length of the complete round : 900 mm
  • Length of the missile : 640 mm
  • Weight of the complete round : 20-21 kg
  • Weight of the rocket :15 kg
  • Muzzle velocity : 550 m/s
  • Flying speed : 700 m/s
  • Travel time (1000 m) : 1,4 s
  • Travel time (8000 m) : 25 s
  • Warhead : 2 kg of TNT

The 142 mm gun :

  • Caliber : 142 mm
  • Overall length : 5,36 m
  • Length of the gun tube : 4,2 m
  • Elevation : -8° to + 20°
  • Rate of fire :4 missiles/min
  • Recoil length : 240 mm (ACRA missile), 350 mm (complimentary ammunition)

The T 142 prototype turret :

  • Sight : APX M390, including a x6 fixed telescope and a x10 ACRA telescope.
  • Sights and the beam emitter are gyrostabilized.
  • There is provision for mounting a secondary weapon on the left of the gun mantlet (likely for a 12,7 HMG or a 20 mm autocannon).
  • Crew : 3 (gunner, loader and commander)

Definitely +1, although looking at people's opinion on the M60A2 and the Sheridan, missile-only vehicles aren't very popular. But still, this is a very interesting vehicle and I'd love to see it in the game. Have no idea what a suitable BR would be, though.

On a sidenote, is it known whether the prototype is still around, or did it get scrapped?

As with the AMX-10 ACRA, the last photos taken of the two machines are at least 10 to 20 years old. Looking at the fate of the Batignolle-Chatillon 25T before it was renovated, I wouldn't be surprised if it was just rusting between two hangar in Saumur, because of the lack of money.

I'm noticing somthing on the pictutres and rawings. There seems to be a 20mm autocanon coaxial mount just like on the amx 30. We can clearly see it on the last picture, and see the gun mount drawn in the "inside the turret" drawing. Was it the same gun as the amx 30 b?
