Welcome!
This thread is part of the Swedish tech tree project and one of the threads where i wil go more in depth with sources and information which i have not included in the main thread. As i said in the main thread im currently sitting on about 30 000 pages of information from the swedish war archive so if there is anything that is unclear please PM me and i will provide a source.

History

SCcZV42.jpg

By the start of 1941 it had become clear to the swedish military that the Strv m/38, 39, 40  would need to be supplimented with a heavier tank design which could stand up against the increasingly heavily armed and armored medium tanks of other nations. Since the Landsverk Lago design was already completed and available it was decided that it would serve as the basis for the new tank. A number of compromises had to be made when adapting the Lago to the new requirements, due to strategic mobility concerns the tank's combat weight was limited to 22 tons which did not allow for the requested armor thickness. This also meant that the width of the tank or it tracks could not be increased which resulted in steering issues and a rather high ground pressure.

During its production run of 282 tanks from april 1943 trough January 1945 there were three variations of the Strv m/42. The first batch ordered in 1941 from landsverk was equipped with a German electromagnetic gearbox and dual Scania-Vabis L603 engines. This version would be named Strv m/42 TM (standing for twin engines magnetic geabox). the German gearbox would prove to be unreliable to the point that it was suspected that the gearboxes had been sabotaged. These vehicles would later be converted to use one of the other types of geabox.

follow up orders in 1942 resulted in the creation of two new variants one which replaced the electromagnetic gearbox with a hydraulic one, these became known as TH (twin engines hydraulic gearbox). The other was fitted with Volvos new A8B engine in addition to the hydraulic gearbox which was called EH (Single engine hydraulic gearbox). In 1946 some of the TM vehicles were refitted with a mechanical gearbox which created a further TV (twin engines mechanical gearbox) variant

The Strv m/42 was added to the game! Though only the EH variant was added; I could see one of the other variants like the TV (maybe with smoke grenade launchers?) being added later on in a folder under the EH. I'm assuming that's why this suggestion is still open, then.

I'm confused, ingame it says it has 2 8mm machine guns, but the model has 3 forward facing machine guns? Does the hull machine gun not work, and if not, why don't it?

The antiair MG mount and smoke grenades would be a welcome addition.

The twin engine variant would be very nice to have in game as Sweden right now only has a single proper tank in its 3.0 lineup. If added, please don't make its BR higher just so that there's an illusion of progression.

Generally, hull MGs aren't modelled unless the vehicle doesn't have a coaxial MG (such as some Japanese tanks). Apparently Gaijin doesn't see them as useful.
