Towards the end of the Cold War as part of a general overhaul of US Army air-defense systems air-to-air missiles were going to be added to the Apache's arsenal. There was originally going to be a shoot-off between the latest Stinger variant and Starstreak to determine which would be used by the Army.

 

With the budget cutbacks in the 1990s I don't know if that shoot-off ever occurred but Stinger at least was fully integrated on the AH-64D. Many export customers for the AH-64D utilize this option but the US Army's use of it was very limited due to the shift in priorities brought about by the end of the Cold War.

 

On the AH-64A Stinger (and potentially Starstreak) capability was going to be added as part of a Multi-Stage Improvement Program (MSIP) yet information on how many (if any) of these upgrades actually occurred is hard to find.

 

Sidewinder and Sidearm while tested on the AH-64A and AH-64D haven't been used operationally.

I'm curious why the heck would star streak be fitted to an AH-64A.... especially givent the ATA version of the missile was never finished, And last I checked it was destined for the soon to be retired WAH-64, so it seems unlikely it ever will be finished.
