Is there an single comprehensive source for SQUIBS information

Hi all,

Is there a single source on the squadron battles format?

Recently the squadron I am part of tried to queue up for rb squadron battles and never found a match despite other squadrons entering the queue. This lead me to do some investigating to see if we were doing it wrong and all I found were conflicting and incomplete descriptions about the rules of the format. For instance there are Q&A session pinned in the Squadron Battles forum, but some of the information there I know to be out of date. The wiki page states that rb squadron battles are 7v7s with all markers enabled and links to a page that implies that you are restricted to a small set of vehicles from 3 nations which I hope is false.

For reference here is what we were doing: 8 of us were all squadded up. The BR for this rotation was 10.0, however, pretty much none of us had 10.0 so we decided to as a group select 5.0 (We fully anticipated getting **** on). We were a mix of aircraft and ground vehicles, but some had exclusively ground and others (MAY) have had exclusively air in their lineup. We did not make people select their vehicle like you would do if you were queuing up for air realistic battles. We waited in queue for at least 5 minutes (way longer I think but I am being conservative in my estimation) and noticed several other squadrons enter, including two which would appear to have gotten a match with each other.

Are we just dumb (I mean probably yes)? Was there some criteria we didn't fulfill? Should we have just waited longer? Is there some place we can go and see the exact criteria for squadding up for rb squadron battles that is up to date?

Best wishes.

The way Squadron Battles works is a bit complicated.  If you did get a match, you would be quickly eliminated in a battle at 5.0 because this week the BR is 10.0 and all squadrons are going to be playing at that level.

Also, having a team score at 0 since you haven't played this season you probably aren't going to get matched.  New season starts tomorrow...at BR 4.0 or below.

Not really a single source. Best to ask in this forum, quite a few regular players for a different few squads check here and tend to help those asking questions. Outside of here you wont hear much mention of squibs on reddit or elsewhere, But I'll see about getting the wiki updated.

Ok a few details, yes you can take 5.0 intos 10.0 (and get shat on as you expect) thats not what dictates the matchmaker, it's the amount of points your top player has in your team that dictates the matchmakers (so one player with 1000 points will pull up 7 players with 0 into games with other players with 1000 points)

You cant have exclusively air in your lineup to play squibs, it would have stopped you from entering the queue if you didnt have a tank in your line up (this is because you can have only a max of 4 aircraft per team and its not decided until you are in game who will fly or not so if players brought just planes and all the plane slots are filled up then they are screwed)

And yes as PlanetP says as it is the last 2-3 days of the season it really is only the teams in the top 25 pushing really hard right now trying to claw their ways into final positions for the season's end.

The exact criteria for squibs is:

8 players (preferably squaded up in a single 8 man squad but not necessary) all in the same ingame squadron.

All players have access to 1 tank of the required BR or below

You can bring a max of 4 aircraft/helicopters per match but it's not necessary

The matchmaker is at it's easiest (in that there are a lot of teams to mm against) during the mid/late period of the EU timeslot on weekends, as thats the point where all 3 major areas cross, you'll get americans, russians and europeans playing squibs at those times.

The US timeslot has a smaller pool of teams sadly as a fair number of the russian/EU teams wont be active during that time slot.

Each season lasts 2 months exactly and is split across 8 brackets, each bracket lasts for a week, except for the last one which can be cut short or be a small bit longer depending on how the days of the month lands. Each bracket is a single BR

for example the first BR is 4.0 and the last is 10.0

the game raises the br for each bracket by 0.7 each week until it reaches 8.0, then it does the last 3 brackets with a 1.0 jump between them (8.0, 9.0 and 10.0)

You can see what teams are currently active in squibs by using the websites replay function and setting it to show games involving tanks & planes, it will give you a fairly real time update of what matches have just finished and which ones started in the last 5 minutes

https://warthunder.com/en/tournament/replay/type/replays?Filter%5Bstatistic_group%5D=mixed&Filter%5Bkeyword%5D=&Filter%5Bnick%5D=&action=search

I'd recommend watching a few to get an idea of what the meta is for each bracket.

Everyone gets only 1 life, regardless of what vehicle they pick

Airplanes in squibs start on the runway with their engines off

There are no markers in air for allies or enemies on the map or on screen (until you are within 1km of an allied plane.) so comms in aircraft is very important. A lot of teams use smoke to quickly signal to their teammates where they are or if they are in danger.

Ground forces uses mostly the same settings as standard ground RB in terms of spotting. Tanks will be marked if you hit them and your allies have markers over them when you are close and are marked on the map.

Spawn protection is in effect in squibs and you will be highlighted on the map if you go near an enemy spawn.

The detection distance for spotting is set to short in Squibs (it's set to normal in standard gamemmodes). Meaning for aircraft it is harder to spot tanks to bomb if they are not moving or shooting

This has a knock on effect on helicopters as they share the same detection distance so in squibs its almost impossible to do snipe shots with a helicopter, you actually have to close the distance or rely on the enemy to keep firing or moving to remain detected.

I'll add more if I remember.
