Mogami_%26_Nichiei_Maru_after_Midway.jpg
Mogami bridge overview of the damaged bow following her collision with Mikuma at Midway.
Mogami was the lead ship in the four-vessel Mogami class of heavy cruisers in the Imperial Japanese Navy. She was named after the Mogami River in Tōhoku region of Japan. The Mogami-class ships were constructed as "light cruisers" (per the Washington Naval Treaty) with five triple 6.1-inch dual purpose guns. (suggestion can be found here.) They were exceptionally large for light cruisers and the barbettes for the main battery were designed for quick refitting with twin 8-inch guns. In 1937 all four ships were "converted" to heavy cruisers in this fashion.

Mogami shortly after commission.
Mogami was laid down on 27 October 1931, launched on 14 March 1934 and completed at Kure Naval Arsenal on 28 July 1935. Her first captain was Captain Tomoshige Samejima, formerly captain of the cruiser Kitakami, who oversaw her completion and remained captain until November 1935. He was followed by Captain Seiichi Itō, until April 1936. Mogami was commanded by Captain Shunji Isaki from November 1939 to January 1941.

Statistics:

Displacement: 13,670 tons (final)

Length: 198 meters (650 ft) (final)
Beam: 20.2 meters (66 ft) (final)
Draught: 5.89 meters (19.3 ft) (final)

Propulsion: 4-shaft geared turbines, 10 Kampon boilers, 152,000 shp (113,000 kW)

Speed: 35.5 knots (40.8 mph, 65.7 km/h) (final)
Range: 8,000 nautical miles, (15,000 km) at 14 knots (26 km/h)
Complement: 850

IJN Mikuma, 1939
To save weight electric welding was used, as was aluminum in the superstructure and a single funnel stack. New geared impulse turbine engines, driving four shafts with three-bladed propellers gave a top speed of 35 knots (65 km/h; 40 mph) which was better than most contemporary cruiser designs and the Mogami class had twin balanced rudders, rather than the single rudder of previous Japanese cruiser designs.

Armor:
Belt 100–125 mm (3.9–4.9 in), Deck 35–60 mm (1.4–2.4 in), Turret 25 mm (0.98 in)
(final)

Mogami rejoined Cruiser Division 7 on 8 June and was repaired at Truk. On the 20th of June, Rear Admiral Shoji Nishimura assumed command of Cruiser Division 7 and Cruiser Division 7 was transferred to the Third Fleet. Mogami returned to Japan and underwent a major conversion at Sasebo Naval Arsenal from 25 August to an aircraft cruiser to improve the fleet's reconnaissance capabilities. Her No. 4 turret and the damaged No. 5 turret were removed and her aft magazines modified to serve as gasoline tanks and munitions storage. Her aft deck was extended and fitted with a rail system to accommodate the planned stowage of 11 Aichi E16A Zuiun "Paul" reconnaissance float planes. The dual Type 96 25 mm AT/AA Gun and Type 93 13-mm machine guns were replaced by 10 triple mount Type 96s and a Type 21 air-search radar.

On the 22nd of April, Cruiser Division 7 returned to Kure, and Mogami went into dry dock for overhaul. On 26 May, Cruiser Division 7 arrived at Guam to provide close support for Rear Admiral Raizō Tanaka's Midway Invasion Transport Group.

Nice Work Mate!

I think Light Cruiser with heavy armor and 5x triple 15.5cm gun is very useful.

I feel before replace to 20.3cm seems strong in game.

I would rather the 155 version be in the tech tree to be honest, since the only Japanese ships with those guns are the Mogami class, the light cruiser Ooyodo, and the Yamato class (as secondaries). The 155mm guns were apparently pretty good too, being rather accurate and having good penetration for its caliber.

that 155mm are closer to heavy cruiser gun's in term of ballistic performance, but didn't received "true" AP round to give them high penetration, but it is still on higher end of 6inch guns.

only problem that 155mm won't be that much different to 203mm due to good ballistic and accuracy, because you have similar rate of fire to them (4rpm for 203mm, 5rpm for 155mm) with is almost half of that other light cruisers have (7-10RPM), so trade off is more penetration and damage per shell vs 5 more rounds per salvo and 3s shorter reload.

so like heavy cruiser using better ballistic and good armor against other ships at range is better than close combat were other light cruisers still have advantage.

I took a look at the information sheet from U.S. Department of Naval Intelligence, & I couldn't help but notice that one of the four 'Mogami-class' names was either forgotten or omitted from its text. That name being 'Mikuma',which was launched in 1934...the same year as the lead ship.

The 'Mogamis' were an integral part of Rear-Adm. Takeo Kurita's 7th Cruiser Squadron...& it was the lead ship & her sister 'Mikuma' which engaged & destroyed the Australian cruiser 'H.M.A.S. Perth' & the U.S. Navy cruiser 'USS Houston' following the Battle of the Java Sea in March 1942. Three months later, they were involved in The Battle of Midway Island, & it was during the Japanese fleet's withdrawal...following the disaster that befell them on June 4th...that 'Mogami' & 'Mikuma' collided while trying to avoid possible torpedo attack from the U.S. Navy submarine 'USS Tambor' 90 miles west of Midway. Both ships were damaged, causing their speed to be reduced. On June 5th, 12 Marine dive-bombers from Midway found & attacked the two crippled cruisers. Despite most of the bombs missing their mark, one Marine pilot, Capt. Richard E. Fleming of V.M.S.B.-241, did the unthinkable, slamming his crippled SB2U Vindicator bomber into the 'Mikuma's rearmost turret...& wrecking it. Capt. Fleming's courageous suicidal action would earn him a posthumous Congressional Medal of Honor.

The following day, it was the Navy's carrier pilots who got their chance. SBD Dauntless bombers from 'USS Hornet (CV-8)' & 'USS Enterprise (CV-6)' unleashed a deadly rain of bombs...beating up the 'Mogami' so severely that she was just barely able to reach the naval base at Truk in the Caroline Islands. She also had 300 of her crew dead. 'Mikuma' wasn't so fortunate...She was bombed into a smoldering scrap-pile...& would later capsize & sink, taking most of the crew with her.

The 'Mogami', & her remaining sisters 'Suzuya' & 'Kumano', would be in action two years later at Leyte Gulf: 'Mogami' got hammered hard in the Surigao Strait during the early morning hours of October 24th-25th...& was later scuttled by a torpedo from the destroyer 'Akebono'. 'Kumano' & 'Suzuya' would be severely damaged in that heroic charge by American destroyer 'USS Johnston (DD-557)' at San Bernardino Strait. 'Kumano' managed to get back to her base in Manila, The Philippines at a speed of only 5 knots, but was caught by U.S. Navy planes & sunk on November 25th, 1944. 'Suzuya' would also be severely damaged by air attack that same day...so severe in fact, that the destroyer 'Okinami' had to scuttle her two days later.

I hope to see Aircraft Cruiser Mogami, too.

In that time Mogami has 10x 25mm triple machine gun, so it air-defense ability is very good.

Also its 20.3cm gun reduced to 6, so easy to get balance in current game.

I really like the 'aircraft cruiser' concept. I haven't researched the concept at the time of this post, but the concept is solid in terms of it's usefulness in battle, especially in terms of world war mode options, and in terms of tactics that can be utilized by Japanese players. I would see this utilized similarly to the I-400 or I-401 aircraft carrier submarines. Launch a few planes and then play as a cruiser. The Japanese didn't have many aircraft carriers compared to the U.S. in the Pacific, specifically after the U.S. destroyed them, so strategically it gives them an interesting intermediate ability to host planes (even if they are low level seaplanes) in sea battles without someone choosing to play an aircraft carrier, or when true carriers are lost in battles, i.e. in world war mode.

Yes please!  The Mogamis are absolute CLASSICS.  I would prefer the 8-inch gun variants, since that was their wartime loadout, though I suppose the 6-inch triple turret version could be a premium or something similar.

+1, with heavy cruisers coming there is no reason not to add these to the game ASAP!

Unlocked Furutaka , first 3 matches all guns are always damaged in the opening gun spam suffers from no repair/useless ness the thing has little to no anti aircraft capability unlike the other faction's counterpart .

Shouldn't the Furutaka be replaced with the Mogami instead for fairness ? on the surface the final ship available atm for Japan is outgunned and out classed 15 guns as compared to 6 very slow traverse & firing guns , and for some reason struggles to even blow up a patrol boat with auto cannons ( have to play a few more time to test again )

I'd suggest adding the Mogami with triple barrel turrets and the "Suzuya" with dual guns heavy cruiser refit to the line in the next Update and put the Furutaka at 5.3 or something .  Honestly I prefer the Agano to the Furutaka atm . I can sink enemy ships faster with the Agano then the Furutaka , It may have 2KG extra more explosive charge ( according to in-game charts ) but nearly every vessel of it's class has a greater ROF.

Mogami's been confirmed as her ~1940 refit. She has her as-built AA armament, which is 4 x twin 25mm guns and 2 x twin 13.2mm guns, with 5 x 203mm guns. Since this suggestion is for all version of Mogami (as-built 155mm version and the late-war version with only three turrets), I'd say that this thread should remain open.
