History

IJN start to develop modern motor torpedo boats during 2nd Chino-Japanese war. It because flagship of IJN 3rd Fleet, Izumo attacked by Chinese torpedo boat.

In 1939 they get budget of MTB, but at first they import one MTB from Italy and build one experimental boat.

That experimental boat is known "T-0", and there aren't official name.

T-0 was wooden V-shaped ship with 2x used aircraft engne (Type 94 water-cooled aircraft engine).

It equip 1x 7.7mm machine gun on the bridge and 2x 45cm torpedo launcher.

It launch torpedo to stern as Germany rank 1 "LS" or Soviet rank 1 "G-5" classes.

Reference the data of this boat, they develop No.1 class torpedo boat (design number: T-1).

This was the only one MTB that build before Pacific war, and the fastest MTB of IJN. (Japanese MTB that faster than it is only JMSDF No.10 / 11 class!)

It shape is same as T-0 (step-less V-shape), and material was wood but it had modified lines.

It engine and weapon is same as T-0, but equip 2 MGs and  torpedo launch system was changed to drop them to both sides of hull as MAS (import from Italy).

Some people says No.1 class is the most succeeded MTB of IJN.

No.1 class torpedo boat built 6 and deployed at "No.1 Torpedo boat group" (第1魚雷艇隊) and used for coastal defense unit of Yokosuka base. After the start of Pacific war 3 boat deployed on Wake island, 2 boat deployed on Tarawa island and sunk.

In the end of the war only 1 boat alive in Torpedo School Training Boat.

In some document, this boat is classified to "Type B torpedo boats". Suggestions of warfare types of them are here:

In the US Navy intelligence report there is a photo of No. 2 motor torpedo boat. It may help to make camouflage skin.

I voted "No" for the T-0 because I think it will have too weak weapons even compared to other countries' MTB's. Even the T-1 will be underpowered, although having 2 of the 7.7mm machine guns is a lot better than just the one. Still, I will support adding the T-1 as one of the reserve-rank boats for Japan. Here is some information on the torpedoes from the NavWeaps website.

@aizenns The model made by Gaijin of N.1 Class motor torpedo boat (in dev server named Type T-1 (1941) ) is correct?

Gaijin has modellet her with torpedo tubes instead of lateral dropping gears as listed in sources.

It seems Gaijin's mistake... I'll make bug report, thanks.

No,1 class will use torpedo dropping gear as T-51b, T-38  or T-14.
