The Marder III M was the final evolution of the Marder III tank destroyer design, built on the hull of the Panzer 38(t) tank.  It used a similar superstructure as the Marder III H, but moved the engine compartment to the center of the hull and the superstructure and gun to the rear of the vehicle.  This design both lowered the tank destroyer's silhouette and gave the crew more room to operate the gun.  The radio operator was moved from the front hull to the rear superstructure where he also worked as the loader; this forced the deletion of the hull-mounted machine gun.  To further increase protection, a metal plate was added to close the rear of the superstructure, though the top remained open.  Overall armament and protection were similar to the Marder III H, with a 50mm front plate, 15mm of superstructure armor, and a Pak 40 75mm anti-tank cannon as the main weapon.

The Marder III M was by far the most-produced variant of the Marder III tank destroyer series, with 975 units manufactured.  They saw extensive service, particularly on the Eastern Front.

+1, I don’t even know why this tank, and the Marder II, isn’t even in game yet.

Also I was discussing with someone on the steam forums a week or two ago, I think this is the tank used in “Saving Private Ryan”.

I see what scene you used, and the molotov is still in mid air.

...

I'm sorry.  I simply could not resist.

I didn't even think of that!  I just google-searched "Marder III Saving Private Ryan" and picked the picture that best showed off the vehicle.

I can't believe I hadn't seen this suggestion already! This would be a great addition to the tank destroyer line that would cap off the Marder series with something really special. For me, this falls into a similar category as the StuG IV in that it's not necessarily the most necessary addition, but it's still a notable omission and a vehicle that I'd personally be really excited to play. I agree with Adagamente that it would fit well under the Marder III H as a kind of side-grade, since it's trading the H's superior traverse angles and depression for a stealthier low-profile shape with potentially better survivability (since hull shots would have to go through the engine to hit the gunning crew).

Came here to say I too would like to see this added to the game. The combination of high  horizontal angles of attack with the turret at the rear leaves the door open for some truly interesting play styles. Rear corner peaking anyone? lol Additionally the high angle of the front armor means there is a chance to actually bounce some shells at this tier. Combined with the mid engine design, it would also have a little more survivability for the crew in theory because the engine block would actually stop some rounds from 1 shoting the entire crew.

While it will have a somewhat high survivability because of the mostly empty hull, the front will bounce nothing except Mg fire, because the angles plate is just 10mm thick, the hull is allready in game in form of the Flakpanzer 38.
