[Wiki] Translate the Wiki + volunteering?

Translate the Wiki

  1. 1. Would you be happy to be able to read the Wiki in your favorite language(s)?

    • Yes, of course
    • I don't care about the langage
  2. 2. Would you like to be a volunteer to help translate the wiki?

  3. 3. Volunteers should be awarded depending their work (ingame title, GEs, premium, vehicles)?

    • They should yes
    • Why not, but not the main purpose
    • No, it's volunteering

This suggestion is about two things:

  • ask of translated content for the good old War Thunder Wiki
  • volunteering to translate the Wiki

I'll begin this topic with saying that I really enjoy the new War Thunder Wiki. It's clear, beautiful (be honest, the old form was ugly), has a plenty of icons and even tech trees instead of lists! It's a true wonder and very helpful for any War Thunder player. But after a recent visit, I've discovered that we are now able to edit the articles from the Wiki, with the same way as we can do it on the classic platform Wikipedia.

No joke, have a look here :

⏏️ Editing system is very similar to the one from Wikipedia.org and it's not really hard to find out how it works. It's a wonderful tool very simple to use. Because of this possibility, this lead me to the second question: what about translating the Wiki?

The prerequisite would be to setup a languages system, as we have on Wikipedia:

image.png.c974d2ed91d1e319ce05c5382c0c02

Then, volunteers could write/edit and publish articles in the selected language. Also, I think not-everyone could be allowed to do modifications: peoples could apply to a cm to get a "translator" badge and would be allowed (and watched by the staff) to edit stuff on the Wiki. To conclude, maybe these translators could be awarded, depending their work done on the Wiki. A special menu could also be added to show to approved translators how much % of the Wiki is already translated in each language.

Personnally, I would be volunteer to translate it in French.

Hope you will like this suggestion. :salute:

Hello KuomintangBall,

It's a nice idea! It would be great to propose to every player the possibility to understand all the informations of the Wiki in their native language.

I would be very interested in helping the community achieve its goal. Like you I'm available to translate in French.

Keep me in touch

While not really about translating specifically, I do think that players who have registered in the game should be able to help edit and correct issues within the Wiki. Within the last week I've found mismatched information on at least one vehicle under the Naval Section of the Wiki. In regard to repair costs actually. However players don't have the ability to edit the wiki and this restricts the community from being able to help correct errors on it and puts more weight on Gaijins shoulders to catch every single error that's missed.

However I do think that some sort of requirement must be met for players to be able to edit it. Anything less and randoms can come in and wreck utter havoc on the wiki.

So maybe some sort of Minimum Rank Reached would be a good bar to set, and it can be in any given Military Branch. Thinking something like Rank 2 at the minimum. This was it's not restricted to the upper echelons of the player base but new players who wish to participate in the community have a clear goal to reach for if they wish to help fix up and correct the Wiki where issues a

I'm not sure if I've misunderstood, but everyone with a registered Gaijin account is able to edit the wiki. Simply log in on the wiki with your Gaijin account (like you would on the forums).

The principe of free time is to do what I want of it.

Anyway, it's thanks to stupid peoples, as you call them, that you can use wondeful things such as Wikipedia, which are done by devoted volunteers.

Then, if it's not for you, why are you answering my post? Go away if you're not interested by volunteering, instead of polluting.

I think it's a great idea, this would help a lot to people who don't understand english and are new in the game (or veterans checking info) to search and understand the content of the articles and do the wiki more useful and accessible, +1

Also if it is accepted, I would be happy to contribute the Spanish translation

  • Thanks 1
