How do you Assist in destroying an Enemy "Aircraft"?

I guess what I really don't understand is what is the case in which it is awarded?

 

The only case were it is always awarded is when shooting down a "Dark Red" enemy before he respawns.

 

all other case seem pretty random.

I have had multiple hits awarded but no Assist.

I have had fires started with multiple critical notifications but no assist.

 

It wasn't always this way right ?

Saw off an opponents wingtips + ailerons, destroy his vertical and horizontal stabilisers and while he's in a flatspin with a dead engine and on fire hope a nearby friendly killsteals him in around 10 seconds

That gives about a 20% chance of getting a assist

seems bugged since 1-2 month 

 

Before u could get an assist just by mg without dealing any damage but know u can blow an engine not getting anything...

OK So I've come to my own conclusion.

------------------------------------------------------------

Hits don't mean nothin. one or more = No Assist

Bell and a Message = No Assist (I assume this is because the Crit has been granted to another player)

------------------------------------------------------------

When Awarded a Critical = Assist (time doesn't seem to be an issue, I saw success from 07 - 32 secs)

 

Crits with Bell and a Message = Assist

Crits with No Bell No Message = Assist (I assume this part of the Aircraft gives no message.bug?)

Kill the Dark Red guy before he re spans = Assist
